I personally loved L2 when it was C1 - C5. But when the new dev team took over and catered it to the WoW generation, it died for me. I will explain the differences of what it was compared to what it is now.

C1 - C5:

Clans disallowed cheating (botting, pvp programs, and ebayers).

Dieing used to mean something (you lost 4% which took 1-7 days of grinding to get back, and if you were red then you dropped gear).

Reputation mattered for your character (for being able to level without getting pk'd, people would or would not party with you).

The servers power clans were 3 or more and there was always a healthy pvp war system both for open world and sieges.

It took years of grinding (usually done with the same party) to reach the top level.

There was 40+ classes to chose from.

All items were available through the game (regardless of how hard they were to acquire).

It took 100+ players to take on end game raid bosses.

All races had their own starting towns.

All gear past newbie gear had to be crafted and couldn't be bought in stores.

If you died to monsters there was a chance you would drop items (gear too).

To learn a new skill you had to go farm certain monsters for a chance to drop the skill book for that skill. You also had to go to your race master in town to learn the skill. You also needed skill points which was given enough to make you farm more than the level requirement for all the skills of that level.

You could pk someone, work off the karma in about 20 minutes, then do a sin eater quest for a chance to take off 1 - 10 pk points (another 40 minutes).

What the game is now:

1 - 85 in 3 days.

Exp is no longer lossed upon death (with clan luck and clan hall rez you lose 0.01% which can be got back in 1-3 monsters).

The best gear is only sold through the NCstore which you have to gamble rl money for (I heard one guy spent $45,000 for a +8 power shirt)

If you go red it takes over 2 hours to work off the karma, you have to spend 500,000 fame points to remove 1 pk point (12,000 is the most you can get every 2 weeks), and if you go over 31 pk's then your toon drops all his gear and gets a debuff so he can't kill anything.

If you are under 31 pk's all gear can be safeguarded when you are red.

There is only 8 classes at level 85.

1 starting zone for all races.

Any skill can be learned if you have the skill points for it (which they increased the sp you get so you will always have enough sp to learn all your skills for that level).

All gear up to 85 (including 85 gear) is free.

You can't get in a clan unless you are willing to cheat (bot while you sleep, and use pvp programs to make your toon pvp for you).

1 clan controls the whole server and complains endlessly about a lack of pvp.

I think that about covers it.

Amen.

Wow can't wait ! (:

And this is coming from a true Beta-Prelude-C1 veteran ^^ Heck, I even have the second first screenshot ever posted of L2 on mmorpg.com ^^

Or an even better option: "I have not played TERA, or tried any of their bosses in the game. So I can't possibly know."

This thread doesn't make sense.

It absolutely doesn't. How can anyone give an opinion without ever playing?

Speculation. If something sucks awfully and is the worst in the case, there is little chance something else will suck more than it. Also, some might have played it, FGTs, conventions, korean CBs..

^This

Aion doesn't suck, I just think TERA is miles better in every aspect

^ YEP I agree bro !!! :D

I sure do

I know it's using Unreal Engine, but personally I haven't seen a single unreal engine game that looks THIS good. Not even like Gears of War (a fun game that's overhyped like hell). Maybe that's just because I'm a big fan of the korean-style art style. But I mean still... damn this game looks sweet.

I always loved the Lineage 2 graphics (which uses older unreal engine), and I thought L2's art style and awesomeness would never be able to be topped. But TERA topped it bigtime. In technical advancement (obviously), but also in art style !!

I've been waiting forever for a good (keyword) mmorpg that's SOMEWHAT reminiscent of  Lineage 2, and TERA seriously fits that role perfectly !! Although it's not similar gameplay wise (atleast not superficially), I still think it would be a good contender with the much wanted Lineage 3.

I'm definitely buying a new computer for this game, cuz I want to be able to play MAX graphix on everything without getting major lag !! My only problem here is that I need to get off my pot-smoking ass (hey, I'm 20 and enjoying life=P) and get a job, so my mother might actually consider supporting me with some cash to buy a new computer=PP

LET HYPE BEGIN!!!!!!!!!!! =PP Also, hope to see u all in-game when the time comes!

//Martin out =D

Sorry but, half of the games you listed are multi-platform, or even exist on PS3.  I listed 100% ps3 exclusives. And I unlike you, I listed games worth listing. Viva Pinata? Cmon now, who are you trying to kid?
Sheer number of players? PS3 is only 3 million units behind Xbox 360, and Xbox 360 had more than a years head start, almost 2 years.

Dude, you mentioned Little Big Planet twice (a game that is as insignificant as Viva Pinata) and Ninja Gaiden isn't PS3-exclusive either.  Saying that Killzone or MAG can hold a candle to the Halo-Series or Gears of War is pretty dilusional really and the sales- and onlineactivitynumbers prove it. Not to mention that about every multiplatform-game looks or performs worse on PS3 and that PSN is a joke compared to XBL. Yeah it's for free but that's about it.

I own every current gen console and I have to admit that the 360 is played far more by a large margin. The PS3 is not much more than a Blu-Ray Player to me because the handful of (albeit great) exclusive titles like Uncharted, God of War III (which is the worst part of the franchise from a gamedesignperspective) or Heavy Rain lasted me about two weeks combined. Left 4 Dead, Halo, Gears etc. on the other hand are played constantly for years. That's just how it is.

Hey, good for u dude. And no, Little Big Planet is NOT as insignificant as Viva Pinata (it sold like half a million units lol). Little Big Planet sold SIGNIFICANTLY more (millions of copies), and Little Big Planet is not a boring game, unlike Viva Pinata. If you're honestly going to tell me Viva Pinata is better than LBP, or even equally good, then I'm not going to bother replying anymore.

Also, I never said Ninja Gaiden series is exclusive to PS3, I said Ninja Gaiden SIGMA is exclusive to PS3, get it through ur thick head. And not to mention how much better Ninja Gaiden Sigma is than the regular Ninja Gaiden for xbox 360. People who played Ninja Gaiden 2 on xbox 360 pretty much beta-tested it for us, and the result: Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. Lolol

And all u can come with is the amount of copies Halo and Gears of War sold. It's because xbox 360 has a bigger install base due to it being released almost 2 years prior, also because of the fact that they're like the only good games on Xbox 360 (next to Forza and Alan Wake)

I already posted which noteworthy games PS3 has compared to Xbox 360's noteworthy games (which are next to non existant compared to PS3's)

Why do u keep mentioning Left 4 Dead 2? How slow are u? Have u still not managed to squeeze through ur thick head the fact that Left 4 Dead is multiplatform and exists on PS3 as well? Besides that ur left with Gears and Halo, lol. I can ramble a  whole list of very great and active multiplayer games on PS3.

Looks like quality is catching up to quantity. I just really wish the PS3 had much better games. Games like Killzone and MAG are just ok and thats the problem, they are just ok. The PS3 really needs a fantastic exclusive like what Halo does for the 360.

Are you kidding me dude? Halo? THAT game is OK. Killzone 2 is not OK, Killzone 2 is GREAT. Unlike Halo 3, and all the other Halo spinoffs that got released recently.

Xbox 360 has: Gears of War, Halo and Forza (please tell me I'm wrong)

PS3 has: Uncharted 1 & 2, Demon's Souls, God of War 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, Ratchet & Clank games, Ninja Gaiden Sigma series, inFamous, Valkyria Chronicles, Yakuza 3, Little Big Planet

ALL of which are 100% ps3 exclusive and have had great success. Not to mention the ps3 exclusives that are not far from release, including Gran Turismo 5, inFamous 2 and Killzone 3.

Let's see here, which console has better games here? Not to mention the most? I think the answer is obvious.

They are about the same but the edge goes to the Xbox for sheer number of players.

Halo 3/ODST/Reach, Forza, Alan Wake, Left 4 Dead 1-2, Gears of War 1-3, Fable 1-3, Dead Rising, Bioshock 1-2 and Infinite, Viva Pinata games,  Xbox Live Arcade.

Yep! The Customer Service is surprisingly good in Lineage 2!! I remember a year or so ago when I wanted to reclaim an old account that I had forgotten the password on. I pretty much got an instant reply! (this was via e-mail). They are great hard working people over at NCSoft Austin=)Props from Sweden!!

And as much as I'd like to start playing this game again (i'm a veteran from back in the Open Beta / chronicle 2-4 days, Erica server, also got some less old screenshots in the Lineage 2  user screenshots section, infact the very first user submitted screenshot submitted on mmorpg.com is right before mine, and yes, I called myself Sweork xD My more serious character from the OB / C 2-4 days was called Zikhan ), I don't think I ever will. I feel like it would require way too much of my time.

Right now I'm eagerly waiting for Warhammer 40k Online and Diablo 3=)

Hope u guys who are still playing Lineage 2 are having fun^^

Too bad we're looking at a game that's been dead since the beginning of time...

I would pick EQ2 if I were you. L2 has been my favourite MMORPG ever since Open Beta Test in 2004, but I think EQ2 is more worth your money and time. It's a cozier and more relaxing game. I mean it's pure fun, whereas L2 is more just addiction and annoying at times.

Also EQ2 has more people playing in starting towns etc, which is fun. I mean it's a lot more fun to reroll characters in EQ2 than it is in L2, that's why there will be more people in starting towns. Also I have a feeling that there will just be generally more people playing EQ2 than Lineage 2.

I have a lot of good memories from EQ2, it's a great game. Go play it!

I have so many good memories from EQ2 (I played on Euro, but unfortunately I don't remember the name of the specific server>,<), and while I'm not necessarily considering resubscription, I still want to give mad props to this game for what it used to be.

Everquest 2 just had this awesome community. Is it just me or does EQ2 just have this really mature yet energetic/happy and friendly community? I mean compared to Lineage 2 which has a slightly more childish community. Well obviously depending. The official servers (still talking about L2) back in the days (and probably nowadays too) had quite a few mature and really awesome people, but the rest were quite annoying and childish (although I only stick to the mature people, which creates the biggest impression on me).

Even though there were a lot of dousche bag lonewolfs in EQ2 (almost too many) I find that the majority were really friendly and warm people who really gave the EQ2 community good reputation (atleast in my eyes). I really do miss all the people I used to group with, and since I played tank class I never really had any problems finding people to join/recruit.

The reason I don't want to resubscribe is because I know that the number of people playing has most likely decreased by a lot since last time I played, which was back in early 2008 if I remember correctly. Although early 2008 was for a very brief moment, I played the most during winter-christmas 2007 (althought I played quite a bit during winter/christmas 2006 as well, but I was occupied with Lineage 2 during that time). And obviously a bit on and off before that beginning 2005.

Anyway, although Lineage 2 is my favourite MMORPG of all time (which I also have A LOT of great memories of, mostly from the Open Beta Test), I still consider EQ2 my very close second, if not a bigger favourite. I don't know, there's just something about it that really stayed with me. Great community, such awesome and cozy atmosphere, fun quests, and sometimes annoying (such as battle themes) - but still very memorable and great music (like in towns etc), although I did play some of my own mp3 in winamp from time to time depending on what I felt like listening to;D

I've played so many MMORPGS ever since, such as Warhammer Online and Aion: Tower of Eternity (just the beta though), and I still feel like there'll never be another game like EQ2. I think it's a great game by itself that nothing can top. I wish I could remember the clans I joined, but unfortunately I don't;( My most active characters name was Swede though, if any of you recognize me;D (on a side not, my screenshots are the very first user uploaded screenshots for the EQ2 "Member uploaded screenshots" section, but I have a few more 1-2 pages later, as well as scattered in the middle here and there, and a few closer towards the end).

Well props to all you guys who are part of the EQ2 community, hope I get to see more of you in future games;D

My intentions weren't even to answer his questions;S

Well actually not long ago (just like 2 weeks ago) I really felt like returning. But after the whole "Return Key" crap I changed my mind. I didn't want to pay unless I got a trial for atleast 15 days for reactivating my almost 4 years old account. That's not my oldest account though, my very first account is from March 2004 (when the OB opened). But I gave it to my friend when I moved to my dad in Ecuador in June 2004  to study at one of the countries most expensive private schools, so I didn't have time to play games.

When I got back to Sweden in 2005 I made a new account, and that's the one I have now. I missed Prelude, C1, played very little C2 on a short visit to Sweden. Then when I got back in 2005 to live here again, I played some C3, played SOME c4 (mostly the PTS server), and then a bit of C5. But that's when I started playing on private servers. I have a lot of good memories from the pirvate servers I've played on over the years.

But now recently I really felt like returning to the official servers because of so many good memories. But I feel like it just won't be the same anymore. And it won't be equally fun because my bro quit playing AGES ago, and my two real life Taiwanese friends who used to play with me also quit ages ago. So I'll be all alone, and I'll have to make a new character.

I heard it's more low level friendly, but it's still the same since you'll be pretty much by yourself, and the beginning towns are next to completely empty. Not that I mind lone wolfing, because I used to EXP quite a lot by myself during the OB, but the comfort of seeing people here and there, and maybe partying with someone from time to time is quite important to me personally, otherwise it's boring as hell.

Props to L2 being what will probably stay one of the best MMORPG's of all time, but its time is practically over. It was my first ever MMORPG so it'll probably always be my favourite. I've played Warhammer Online, Eve, Everquest 2, Asheron's Call, etc etc, and none of them top l2 for me.

Good times, good times. I even have this little memory of good times in L2 here, my screenshot is the very first (okay second rofl) uploaded user screenshot here on MMORPG.com^^ (in the Lineage 2 'Member Submitted screenshots' section. I also happen to be the first user screenshot uploader for Everquest 2;P). And that screenshot wasn't even my earliest, that was like in early 2005.

Yeah.................. Did you read the post above?

I resurrected an old account that I'd rather play on.

Bumping this thread.

Please send me a refer key to clansic_m@hotmail.com (decided to resurrect and old account that I had previously forgotten the password to, but resolved through customer support)

Much appreciated

That's apparently the point of the "Return" key. It's a pile of horse shit.

You need to pay a full month or more in order for that key to work. So in the end you end up with 45 days of subscription for the price of 30 days. But it still tricks you into thinking that you actually get 15 days for free without having to pay.

If I actually got 15 days FOR FREE because of activating a 90 days or more inactive account, I'd probably consider paying more AFTER my trial ends.

Fuck this shit!

Please send me a refer key to clansic_m@hotmail.com
