In order to ensure a great user experience we have decided to limit initial launch supply.

Further supplies will be released post-launch.

its EA right to do so but I think its lame

regarding beta

“Pretty much everyone who wants to be in testing will have tested by the time the game comes out.”
I had asked him how long Beta weekends will be going on for and he said right up until launch, and then said the above quote.

AFAIK no /LoN cards either in EQ2X (though you can use them from EQ2 Live for sure).

Gold subs on EQ2X get 5 LON packs each month like Live

but ya, no discounts for pricing and dont get all races

EQ2X will be receiving Vet rewards sometime next year (and they will be backdated to server launch)

for EQ2X’ers, you’ve never received credit, so you’d get credits as far back as August last year when we launched if you’ve been here that whole time.

Having worked in the hosting industry, I've always wondered how a B2P model for an mmo could stay afloat.

Having servers in a co-location facility with good multiple-path (multi-homed) bandwidth is rather expensive on a monthly basis. Not to mention maintenance and monitoring..

the original guild wars was b2p and has done this 6 years -- with over 7 million boxes sold

back in 2006, ANET gave some server info

Guild Wars from the Server Side

When NCSoft acquired Arena Net, Guild Wars’ developer, Garriott and his team discerned an audience not being served by the traditional subscription-based MMO. (“There’s a large number of people who don’t want to pay 15 dollars a month”, as he puts it.) Guild Wars was designed from the ground up to capture that niche, with community and help tools that minimized the need for frequent customer service– a key money sink for MMOs. By Garriott’s estimate, Guild Wars incurs 80% less support costs than NCsoft’s more traditional MMOs, like their Lineage series. There are no Game Masters in Guild Wars, wandering around the world settling disputes and helping players—and charging NCsoft by the hour.

The other cost-saving feature comes from economy of bandwidth. MMO players know all about long download times, when a game has an update, with patches that often exceed 100 megabytes, and thousands of players simultaneously piling on, to get it. (“It can cost us a million dollars for an update patch,” Garriott says of other NCSoft MMOs. “You peak when you release a giant download.”)

By contrast, Guild Wars streams its updates in small chunks, depending on what part of the world you’re in. “Instead of having peaks of bandwidth usage… [the update] streams it evenly over time, so the costs don’t peak.” Numerous areas and quests in the world are “instantiated”, meaning specially created only for a small group of players, and that also minimizes bandwidth, since it means tracking less player data across the wider world. Garriott estimates 100,000 people play Guild Wars across the US and EU at any given time, and 1.5-2 million total every month—and still, connection costs remain manageable.

As a dedicated player I'd get maybe!  1 month out of Guild Wars 2 and thats it ->waiting till an update comes. Personally speaking thats not what I expect from my MMORPG.

stictly speaking PVE

-- anyone who wants to do PVP in GW2 will get probably spend much more time w the game

Bioware are attempting to make Blizzard show their hand with a WoW 3.4 or Diablo III release date, before revealing their SWTOR launch date.   Because Blizzard have been known to release a major update for WoW or another game launch just before a competitior's game in attempts to deter possible customers, and it does actually work.  They're not the only developers that do this...

I dont know how the industry works

but I agree -- I doubt EA will announce a street date until after Blizzcon (10/21 10/22)

for me immersion is not lack of sleep or food

-- immersion is do I care about this alternative reality

we do it all the time when watching a movie or tv show you enjoy --- or reading a good fiction

In terms of timing, again, we haven't given a street date yet. We won't do so for some time, possibly at our next upcoming earnings call towards the end of October. We're in beta testing mode.

its realistic -- theyll give a ship date when they are comfortable

that weapon was more appropiate for the rogue

how would you feel with if a dagger dropped with +10 int

and the rogue needed on it?  for autoattack damage

see the same crap at upper levels with dps classes (who are tanks) rolling against the tank  - for tank gear

even tho the dps tanks are not playing tank spec in the dungeon

just plain greed over need

"soon" was never said - its what the MMO blogger hopes for

heres more info

but theres still no launch date and EA will announce a ship date in the next 6 weeks
"We're not done until we're done. ... We're not going to know with enough certainty to publicly announce a release date," until later this month or sometime in October

The gap between the beginning of Closed Beta and Launch for Rift was almost exactly three months and I anticipate a similar time-line here.

betas can be iffy

for TOR, in July EA was saying this

EA CFO Eric Brown did say, "In September, we will be in a position to call the ball and give you a hard ship date" following the major beta testing push.

after TOR's September beta, this was said

we haven’t given a street date yet. We won’t do so for some time, possibly at our next upcoming earnings call towards the end of October

timeline for GW2 will be grey until they see how the closed beta fares

How does my time count?

  • Yes all of your previous paid subscription time is counted towards Veteran Rewards
  • Yes all your future (hey I bought a 12 month sub!) time is counted towards Veteran rewards.
  • Example I have a 6 month sub, and I just renewed with a 12 month sub... That means you get all the rewards up to 18 months!

How does the merchant work?

  • Once you unlock the merchant you can summon him wherever you want in the world.
  • Any player can buy / sell items just like any normal merchant.
  • Veteran merchant is a gold based store, and does not require special currency.
  • Merchant has special items that can only be purchased if you have unlocked that veteran level.
  • Items can (and will) be updated over time to deliver new rewards!

Rewards, Rewards, Rewards!

  • The included list of rewards is only the inital offering, and also does not include ALL of the items availible for purchase (just some of the highlights).
  • There will be additional items like vanity pets / mounts availible from the veteran merchant.
  • There will be unique items (like the vanity armor suits) as well as refresh items from your favorite events. This gives veterans an oppertunity to pick up popular event items they may have missed that no longer drop.
  • Additional utility consumables like XP potions / PAXP potions etc, are something we are looking into for future updates. Since the Planar Attunment system is new we wanted to make sure that the system settled in and got tuned appropriately before we gave people a way to boost their progression through it.

As a whole we're pretty excited about the Veteran's reward system and are looking forward to updating it over time with all sorts of new an exciting rewards. Until then please keep the feedback coming!

Hi, folks,

The GU 61 feature that got delayed, “Dungeon Finder” is coming to your Test server on Tuesday, 9/20, in the morning update.

Here’s an early peek at the release notes you see then. There are definitely still bugs in the system, but we need your help to shake out the issues.

Try it at different levels, if you can. Some of you may find that you rediscover forgotten content you haven’t seen for a long time. SMILEY

Dungeon Finder is a matchmaking system to make it easier for groups to get together for dungeons. This requires a certain minimum population to be effective. Since the Test server population is relatively small compared to regular Live servers, you may experience longer queue times at certain level ranges (depending on who is playing at that time). Howver, the system only requires a minimum of six players of the required archetypical group roles in order to make a match, so it won’t take many players at all to make the system work. Hopefully, the Test population is robust enough for this.

To use the Dungeon Finder, click the “Dungeon Finder” button on your XP bar. (Or open the “Zones” menu by using CTRL+Z and clicking the “Dungeon Finder” tab.) (Alternatively, you can also use /df or /dungeonfinder.)

You can queue solo or as a group (only your group leader can queue a group) for any dungeons you qualify, based on level, critical mitigation requirements and if you have the required expansion activated.

* You can either queue for a Random Dungeon (ang get a +25% XP bonus while playing that dungeon) or you can queue for specific dungeons by only clicking the checkboxes next to their names. (NOTE: You don’t get the +25% XP bonus if you queue for specific dungeons.)
* If you leave the dungeon, and your group stays within it, you can use the “Return” button (on the DF interface) to zone back to your group without travel time.
* If you group isn’t full, the group leader can use the “Reinforce” button to allow more players, currently queued in the Dungeon Finder (and who qualify), to join the group.
* If your group finishes a Dungeon Finder dungeon, you can exit and your group leader can queue for another dungeon immediately. This should result in almost no wait time for the next dungeon as long as you have a full group. (If you don’t have a full group, just hit that Reinforce button.)

NOTE: The zones available when you open the Dungeon Finder interface are based on your character’s actual level, not your currently mentored level, if you are mentored. Mentored levels have no effect on DF matchmaking.

We are working hard on this feature even as you test it. We would greatly appreciate knowing about any bugs you find, especially if you see one of the error code messages in your chat pane. We’ll be updating the build with fixes as we go and keeping you abreast of improvements.

Thank you, in advance!

Till then wow will remain up there. Its also a cultral thing now, its gonna be hard to get rid of wow. The bright side is there will be really good competition coming forth which will force blizzard to get off their arses and add some good quality stuff to keep wow players on wow.

agree on WOW as cultural thing

I'm really liking Rift right now, and it's a great alternative from WoW.

Rift was released with full content, bug free.  But as full as this mmo is it was still released with only one starting zone for each faction.  Sure the dev's are adding content BUT since the game was released they will have to add END GAME CONTENT and no time to look back at new starting zones.

one thing RIFT lacks heavily in -- is PVE immersion

for me, RIFT was the most boring p2p mmo Ive played, I didnt last more than 3 weeks

I played both Age of Conan and Warhammer at launch

both of these games had more issues than RIFT -- but at least these mmos were immersive w ingame world lore

at launch, I thought DCUO was fun for what it is

- I had more fun in DCUO than my 3 weeks in RIFT (I know that doesn say much lol)

I will be playing the f2p version on the side
