I recommend going to Timorous Deep

to get there,

you have to leave Greater Fay and goto Butcherblock

at the Butcherblock beach is a griffon  (not a griffon tower)

BirdTrainer to TD, Waypoint 299.93, 88.17, 75.86

maps.eq2interface.com/poi.php

TD quests

eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Timorous_Deep_Timeline

all zones in EQ2 are instanced - everything

in EQ2,

you can have Commonlands1, Commonlands2, Commonlands3, etc when its busy

these are public instances -- anyone can enter them

WoW has private instancing,

 limited to only same group or same raid

will not see Barrens1, Barrens2, etc in WOW

you may not consider EQ2 zones as instances, but they are

is the memory leak just with DirectX10 version?

I seriously haven't had any issues with it at all...and I'm playing on the lower end of the system specs for the game.

the memory leak was happening on DX9 also

I'm runnning XP and the game was very unstable for me  (crashing often)

- until patch 0.7

 The thing is it isn't the same group of guys that made Diablo 2.
It was some of them. And we don't know which ones or what they did on that project?   Did the design the box art or the Animated cutscenes? Were they a games tester or AI coder?

served as a main Programmer on the latest releases in the Diablo franchise, and was most recently Lead Programmer on the highly anticipated 1.10 patch for Diablo II. His work on the Diablo series of games included programming and technical design on random level generation, player and monster skills, item randomization and powers, client/server data streaming, monster AI, quest logic, special effects and overall playability and balance.

not quite the answer you are looking for

but the SOE class boards often have threads asking about this

I'm running XP with 6921 drivers

- not having any problems but I'm using a custom setting for performance

I have 4gb ram but I'm not using the /3g boot option if that helps

I dont know about 70

but on Test Server with patch 2.3

the author of these levelling guides

Guild Wars and World of Warcraft are NOT made by the creators of Diablo.

Arena.net, creators of Guild Wars, consist of the Battle.net creators(hence the name) and if I recall, the balance guy from Starcraft.

World of Warcraft is made by BLIZZARD, the creators of Starcraft, Warcraft, among other Blizzard properties.

Diablo and Diablo 2 were created by the team which was initially known as Condor Entertainment, which originally was seeking funding from Silicon and Synapse before they became Blizzard Entertainment, and was subsequently bought by Blizzard Entertainment and renamed Blizzard North.

your facts are off -- the 3 founders of ANET did programming for game development of Diablo

ANET: Jeff Strain  (former programmer for Diablo)

www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,9171/

Jeff Strain was the team lead and lead programmer of Blizzard's massively multiplayer role-playing game, World of Warcraft. He was also a senior programmer on both Warcraft III and StarCraft, and a programmer on Diablo. Jeff was the creator of the StarCraft Campaign Editor and was employed at Blizzard for four years.

ANET: Mike O'Brien (former Sr. programmer for Diablo)

www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,9166/

Mike was the original creator and architect of Battle.net and was lead programmer on that project. He was also a senior programmer on StarCraft and Diablo, as well as the author of the network code for both games, and was a programmer on Warcraft II.

ANET: Patrick Wyatt (former Sr. programmer for Diablo)

www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,1019/

Previously, Pat was a senior programmer on both StarCraft and Diablo, and wrote the multiplayer code for both games. He was also a producer and senior programmer on Warcraft II, for which he wrote both the networking and multiplayer code, and producer and lead programmer for Warcraft I. Pat was employed at Blizzard more than eight years.

if it helps,

I look at this directory of names to get ideas or plain use them

While I didn't enjoy most expansions after Velious, LDoN was definitely an exception.

I had some of my most fun grouping experiences here, and as a non-raider it was a wonderful way to acquire some very nice gear.

I agree

Who mentioned instances?  I must have missed that.  The world in general, leaving WoW out, ummm AC1, when did it come out?  When did EQ2 come out?  Loading screens FTW

many current mmos support public and/or private instanced content

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instance_dungeon

* Anarchy Online
* City of Heroes/City of Villains
* Dark Age of Camelot
* EverQuest
* EverQuest 2
* Final Fantasy XI (instances added with the Treasures of Aht Urghan expansion)
* Guild Wars
* World of Warcraft
* The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar
* Tabula Rasa

future games - WAR and AOC will be supporting instances too

any MMO with instances - *require* zoning and loading screens

Originally posted by mxmissile

Its 2008, not 2001.  Zoning is un-called for in this day and age.

name a mmo with instances and no zoning  - there is none

and before you say WOW

last I checked, I had to zone into private instances

EQ2 zones are all public instances

-- you can have Commonlands1 Commonlands2 etc when its busy

In place of Ferentus, the new Korean based game named Xiones has recently been released by Ontang.
It is essentially the same game and Xiones is soon planned to expand to allow English players.

novermber 2007 interview

www.allakhazam.com/story.html

Curt Schilling: We are just past our one year anniversary and things are going fantastic. Being able to watch this game, this world, these iconic characters R.A. has created, come to life, has been beyond incredible. We have put together a core group of people who have all been in on the production of previous MMO’s from EQ to EQ2 to WoW to Final Fantasy and many more. We recently hired one of the lead concept men from LotR. We are preparing to announce the hire of our CTO as well, and with each and every hire we legitimize ourselves more and more within the gaming community.

I am amazed at the increasing number of parallels between the gaming space, the MMO space in particular, and the movie industry. For example our premier title has a budget over 60 million dollars.

That’s similar to a Hollywood movie these days. But one thing I have always believed was that if you were doing something you did it to the very best of you and your team's capabilities. In this regard and this industry that means spending money to mitigate risk. You mitigate risk, in our position, with people. Hiring the perfect people is the most vital task to accomplish right now and we’ve done that to this point.

you be successful using less cash but other companies have used more for development

Blizzard was around 40 mill or more for WoW

Green Monster Games (Curt Schilling, etc)

is spending 60 million on development for their future mmo

agree

I have 4gig and XP -- even tho only 3 gig gets actively used

I can even launch *two* EQ2 clients on same computer  and still have over 1 gig free memory

linked worked fine for me

I agree tho - SOE sucks at advertising

ROK has some but its no comparison to WOWs BC Faction Grinds

killing 400+ WOW Ogres in Nagrand for Consortium faction is nothing like ROK

Faction Grinds is a known issue of discontent  with WOW players

thats why Blizzard reduced the entry requirements for Heroic dungeons from Revered to Honored with patch 2.3 - as recent as 2 months ago

if WoW had mentoring - being 70 would be a little more bearable

but if you *dont* want to raid or pvp ... Life at WOW 70 is largely limited to Faction Grinds

or playing GOD mode farming/helping in trivial dungeons

- no challenge

I do enjoy levelling in WOW but thats all -- being 70 in WOW is not fun for me

WoWs Faction grinding *sucks hard*
