I posted this info in the news section  commentary for Nightwing

www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/260445/DC-Universe-Online-Nightwing-Revealed.html

but wanted to post the information here too - because its easier to find historically  ;)

from Aug 27,2009 DCUO unlimited news

dcuo-unlimited.com/special-news/

At launch our game focuses on the rich DC stories and locations on Earth. From there we will push out into the solar system, galaxy, universe and all the other layers of awesomeness that make up the 52.

Our story will set up why your hero or villain has come to be, what your place is among these legendary characters, and all of the rich history in DC’s 70+ years of story telling.

The game sets up an "ideal" version of the DCU for your character to make their mark in.

This means we pick and choose what the status of certain characters is that we think will make the most sense to new comers, make the existing fans happy and allow for the best possible stories to be told.

For example…Bruce Wayne is Batman in our game even though he is "dead" in the books and Aquaman is a sea king who talks to fish rather than a Black Lantern etc….

sounds like its going to be an alternate universe

To build DCUO, Jim Lee spoke of trying to pick the coolest of 70 years of DC continuity to be placed into the game and has created the structure of the DCUO world.

being patched today  11/16

among other things Reincarnation  -- go to link for complete patch notes

True Reincarnation

We're pleased to announce a new feature for our more seasoned DDO players: True Reincarnation! A true reincarnation lets the player recreate a more powerful character and change anything about them (except for the name and gender), including their class and race. Tapping into memories of their former selves, true reincarnated characters will receive additional build points to spend in character generation as well as unique bonuses in the form of access to Past Life Feats.

Each True generation will also be physically larger than previous generations (you're welcome Halflings!). True reincarnation allows players to relive their journey through Stormreach. Characters will keep no experience or favor upon creation, will start at level 1, and require more experience to progress through each level. True reincarnation grants 2 bonus build points for every true reincarnation, and are always base 32 point, even if the character was initially created as a 28 point. When you reincarnate, your character will become taller, you'll have a special status icon on your name, and you'll begin your "new life" in Stormreach with extra ability points! You may True Reincarnate a character up to two times, for a total of 36 points.

You will also be given access to a "past life" feat, where influences of your previous character class can aid you in your new life/profession. A character must be level 20 to True Reincarnate, and must speak with Kruz the reincarnation trainer in House Jorasco. Kruz requires a True Druidic Heart of Wood to perform a reincarnation. True Druidic Hearts of Wood can be purchased in the DDO Store, or earned by collecting epic tokens in the new Epic difficulty dungeons. Misty, the apprentice of the Twelve, will offer True Druidic Hearts of Wood in exchange for 20 epic dungeon tokens.

NOTE: True Reincarnation will start your character in the Korthos experience. It is not possible to use veteran status while reincarnating. Please also note that reincarnation will remove any tomes, buffs, raid flags, exclusive hair styles/colors, quest progression, or other effects applied to your character. Only equipment is kept. Your equipment is waiting for you in your bank in a special reincarnation cache. Items taken out of the reincarnation cache cannot be put back in. You may skip the Korthos experience by speaking with Jeets or the first mate on the dock in the village.

People will always pick on the #1 game, the #1 sports teams, the #1 guy in the class, etc..  Don't worry too much about it, I personally enjoyed WoW and thought it was a quality game, made by a quality gaming company.  Just because I've moved on and don't prefer it anymore, doesn't mean I hate it.  But you can't change how people act, they'll always pick on the #1 game on the market.

EQ1 was getting picked on before WoW came into picture, just to put things into perspective.

yes - I remember when EQ used to get bashed on when playing other mmos

not sure this has been posted here before

but I personally found this link helpful for seeing all the free quests listed and associated favor

personally, I get bored of any mmo after 3 months

so I rotate them for variety

DDO currently has my attention but I'll be back for "more WOW" in the future

Bioware is a mmo developer

- if they want to buy  "ad space"  for their latest singleplayer RPG, I have no problems w that

Blizzard unveiled the re-vamp Battle.net on March 20, 2009. AFAIK Starcraft II has a Q1/Q2 release for 2010, the next Diablo who knows

Blizzard had plans to release SC2 in 2009

but in Aug 2009 -- Blizzard announced it was delayed to 2010 because of Battlenet

forums.battle.net/thread.html

Today we announced that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will not be ready for release by the end of 2009.

Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game. The upgraded Battle.net is an integral part of the StarCraft II experience and will be an essential part of all of our games moving forward. This extra development time will be critical to help us realize our vision for the service.

interview seen at massively

www.massively.com/2009/11/03/free-realms-to-introduce-new-job-pets-player-housing-and-more/

As far as the new jobs, are they for VIP members only, or free members as well?

There's one new job, Fisherman, and it's going to be handled the way all jobs are being handled. It's a much simpler system.

How so?

Players have asked to try out all of the jobs, and we listened. So as of early November, free player characters that are newly created will be able to play any job (Ninja, Chef, Postman, Kart Driver, Demo Derby Driver, Brawler, Miner, Soccer Star, Archer, Wizard, Medic, Blacksmith, Warrior) in Free Realms up to level five for free. When level four is completed, the job becomes Members Only.

We're thanking original free players for their support by making sure the jobs that are currently free on each character that exists when we release the new system remain free for that character, forever. These original player characters will also be able to try previous Members Only jobs up to level 5 as well!

www.ddo.com/news/729-new-server-opening-wednesday

Due to the overwhelming success of Dungeons & Dragons Online®: Eberron Unlimited™ and the massive growth in our player population, we’re proud to announce that a new high-capacity server world is opening on November 4, 2009! The new server is named Orien, after the famous Dragonmarked noble house in Eberron. House Orien is an integral part of Xen'drik's trade and transportation systems due to their renowned magical travel and teleportation abilities. The launch of the Orien server comes on the heels of the hugely successful launch of DDO Unlimited and just after our first major game update, underscoring our ongoing commitment to the franchise and the amazing popularity of DDO Unlimted. We’ll see you in-game!

NOTE: Orien will be open to new characters only. Character transfers will not be available for the new world at this time.

Do we have any idea whether the delay is best measured in hours, days, weeks, or months?

Tolero (turbine):
Some in days some in weeks. Not months and not hours.

thanks for tips on viewing your character !
