thats all it is.

except.....

the other night in sulfer fortress. One of the asmo legions made a move to take it. The other asmos came in once the boss battle had started to try and poach the kill and reap the rewards for themselves. All the while the elys were camping outside trying to get in and we kept fighting them back to keep the boss room for ourselves. Then the boss launches 2 (nearly) consecutive aoe's that wiped out about 90% of us. Then the elys come pouring in and try to finish off the boss. In the end noone got the fortress. A lot of pvp both small scale and large, and a good time was had by all.

oh I'm sorry.....you were saying something?

from Ayase

"Server full / Cannot create more characters

We need to balance the population out even between our servers. While some empty are full to the bursting, others aren't as filled up. We need to promote characters on these servers in order to reduce latency risks and overcrowding. Limits will be increased once we see that server populations balance out. This is not static / final."

right now all or most of the [east] servers are "full" for now. And  many [west] servers are elyos only. From ayases statement it looks like they will adjust the pop caps up as they go; presumably once those [west] servers are "full" too.

 I wouldn't exactly call it a PvP-centric game...

I would.

The game is balanced for higher levels, not low level arena bs. As an assasin, you would get a skill that basically teleports you on top (or directly behind) your enemy. Just like the sorc has a skill that teleports him 25m backwards. All the classes have measures and counter measures.  And all the classes mature at different speeds, but the real pvp doesnt start until lvl20 anyways.

Aion is allready a success.

Bingo

A better question would be: will it be a success here in the west? Fortunately it doenst matter. Even if it doesnt meet NCsofts expectations here it will be fine. Its a AAA game that will continue to get AAA updates, regardless of how it does here. Because its already a big success.

uh-huh, well you seem to have your mind made up. But its worth pointing out that as far as being boxed in, thats a two-way street. Ive been on both ends of that while rifting....sometimes your the wolf, sometimes yoour sheep.

I think we could both agree that during OB people need to lvl to 20+ to see what the game is really like. Some people seem to lvling to 10 and then thinking they know whats up......they could be in for a big suprise

Darkfall is also a hacked, rubbish game, made by a rubbish company. Its a niche within a niche.

One wonders about the motivations of those who are so fanatically against expanding choices here... PvP and PvE servers exist in many, many games. It also expands the companies potential profits.  The only down side I can see is the loss of unwilling/inexperienced victims for ganking/griefing...

Those "other games" are pve games with pvp tacked on. Thats a big difference.

As for me, I am vehemently against pve severs because I havnt had an mmo to play in literally years - because they are all trying to cadre to you. Maybe thats where the big money is....but thats not where I am at. Please, pretty please, let me have just one fucking mmo to play? There is a metric-crap-ton of WoWs out there for you; take your pick. But lets just allow this game to be what it is.

I would characterize the size of the gameworld and its zones as medium sized. And trying to envision the size of zones by looking at maps such as the OP pointed out is just silly.

2 things:

Having a zone devided up by geographical barriers really doesnt mean anything in a level based game. If there were NO barriers channeling players from A to B....then there would still be barriers in the form of mobs. When you are playing an open world game, fighting lvl20 mobs, then you cross the road and find yourself among lvl25 mobs.....that too is a geographical barrier. Its just desguised better.

Secondly, using your wings/gliding is important for this game. If only as a mode of transportation. The gameworld is very well designed for this. There are a lot of cliffs to jump off of With an open world there just wouldnt be enough shit to climb up on and jump off of.

looking at the bright side.....this one-shot isnt any good. Theres no writing; its just this characters life crammed into one comic book. It even feels as if its a pictoral representation of the game manual. You fight mobs, lvl up, get your wings, then go the abyss and fight the enemy.

It would be cool if there were a serious manga, anime, or book treatment of the ip

you can download it in pdf format

I'll vouch for battletoads. Really fun game but........christ almighty

You can find any and all of that stuff in other mmo's. Everyone else has already experienced all that stuff; the names may have been different, but the content is the same.

Just out of boredom recently I fired up the 10 day WoW trial. The one thing I liked was the calender. I've never seen an events calender like that in an mmo before. Its a brilliant idea - although I havnt experinced any of the events, so I dont know if they are any good. But still - its brilliant. But instead of listing that....you list leveling up, raiding, and uber lute as things to experience? I have already experienced all those things; I dont need WoW do show it all to me again.

it tends to be more group friendly. People running around solo everywhere at lvl 20+ tend to be meat for gankers. Entering the abyss without a group is a gamble; and its one that people most often lose.

Find a buddy(s) ;)

I think it will be a success. That terrifies me. It is the same thing as all the other EQ/WoW type games. It is upsetting.

it seems the same at first. Then you hit lvl 25+, enter the abyss,  which bears no resemblance at all to the lower lvl game, and then the real game starts, - a pvp face rape free-for-all that bears more resemblance to Lineage2 than the above mentioned games. Its just that reason that I wonder if it will be a big success. I dont know if most people can handle the transition from a linear solo quest grind to free-roaming grouping pvp.

If you were to go cleric, you would not find yourself being any kind of hybrid. You'd be healing. Unless you intend to solo mostly, and thats not something I'd recommend. Chanter makes a lot more sense as far as being "hybrid", but its not ranged.

Aion=L3???

Actually it's not. Aion is its own game itself. It's not the "L3" of NCsoft. There was a project on L3 already but some of the developers left and make BlueHole Studios and got the source code when they left. NC then went into remaking the game from scratch while BlueHole Studios made "Tera" from the work they did in L3. Tera is still in development and will be a kick ass MMO when it comes out.

That's what I heard from a lot of ppl. Not too sure about the sources and the real story behind it.

even before that, there was an L3 in production. The suits at NCsoft wanted to make some "changes". The original creator of the Lineage series, working on L3 at the time, wasnt digging their change in direction; he left the company.....and "L3" became "Aion". And then from there on.....it is as you described. Anyways, that how I remember it. Theres a timeline somewhere that I read that had all this stuff listed chronologicaly. Fascinating read if you can find it.

Its always been my conjecture that the suits at NCsoft played WoW, were wow'd by it, and decided to make the game rvr and more quest based. That would certainly explain the first 10 shitty levels in aion.

so called "channels" go all the way back to CoH. I think that was the first time it was done. And to this day it still astonishes me that noone would copy such a system. It could have helped with the launch of so many mmos.

And I wouldnt even put GW in the same catagory as this. This is creating instances of entire zones. GW is just a lobby game.

What happens if you get the curse/judgement for killing newbies, and you can't use rifts etc, and then you log out?

then your not killing noobies either way.

Hello.

I just pre-order AION and I would be really glad if some experienced players could help me out. For some reason I ALWAYS pick the class that SUCKS. Like in WOW. I was playing as a mage. They sucked so bad.

So this time I would be really glad to start with a class that is GOOD. For once I want to kick someone’s butt and /spit :(

Well I was thinking of playing a warrior- dps gladiator?

Is the any official “best race or class “ ? or most popular ?

Thanks…

Okay sorry.....but what happend to creating your own experiance, finding out what class fits best to your playstyle, remember this genre is a GAME and not a job, so there is no time limit, unless you your self puts that in.

Isn't it just cool to find things out for yourself?

I know my reply does not help much, but again sorry that's just how I feel when seeing someone ask a question like you did within this genre. Which to me is kinda one of the many reasons why this genre has been dumped down as people don't want to explore or experiance things themselfs but seem to want to know it all to get it all.

I understand where you're coming from, and its true to a certain extent. But when people do try it out for themselves, then come back and talk about there experience or have questions, then there are those that tell them they are idiots for not researching the game first. So it sounds like a catch-22 to me.

this is getting really interesting. If im going to be honest, then ok im not the best healer... i don't like the responsibility, to much pressure !

if was the healer a chanter? i am not familiar with the terms...

Cleric/Templar/Chanter

so the cleric heals...

and the Templar is a non dps warrior ?

and the chanter is like a shaman ? like something between?

but if the healers are like the prests in WOW then its ok..cuz then can kill off any class ether way..

The chanter is the team buffer. They are ok at healing, but not as good as clerics. Their dps is ok, but nothing great. Their defense is ok, but nothing great. Later on they get some CC abilities. Thus far, to me, chanters seem like a jack of all trades, excelling at nothing in particular; except maybe the buffing since its their forte. Its kinda cool being able to step into any role and help out.

Templar are the tanks.
