I myself won’t be pre-ordering anyway, and at one time I thought I would be. I have been on the boards since '06, and actually interviewed Tasos for another website. I was really excited, but I think there was some lack of honesty in the screenshots provided along the way. People didnt get the world they thought they were going too. I am not one to say that graphics are everything, hell I played UO for 6 years (my longest run in any MMO).

The other thing that tweaked me happed more recently and is nothing more than me being a Blat-A$$. I checked the forums over a month ago and had access to the beta forums, after some reading I see that anyone that had such access should also have a beta key. Well after a month of trying to talk to the Mods over there about a key and getting no response I gave up on DFO all together.

yeabelh 3 weeks and the shows over I can't  believe it either and it feels like they are trying to cram way too much into the end of the show I hope they stick to their guns and get us a few dvd movies from bsg like they did with stargate.  Now onto darkfall, what exactly is the hype about this game?  It's another hack slash elf bleh game.  I'd kill for a bsg mmo.  Actually I'm in line for jumpgate and star ttrek :)

Need a link to the BSG rp area in Second Life?

Hell I can even introduce you to the guy that built the Pacifica in SL ;)

Sorry to derail the train ... now back to your regularly scheduled DFO fix.

"AoC of course with the same issue"

I never had the frame rate issues other people had while playing AoC, and I COULD see player movement from positions shown in the AoC screenshot. In a PvP game seeing the enemy is everything.

This was delivered to me by the lovely Bella Dutton in SL and I wanted to share it with all of you.

New Internet TV show "Life On Line" goes global
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Internet TV Show Life On Line to go deeper into how people around the world use their online time for news and entertainment, creativity, love, friendship, business, shopping, political engagement, work and play.

February 14th, 2008 - Sydney, Australia – A new internet TV program, Life on Line, launches on February 15th that delves into how people spend their lives online. Life On Line, as the name suggests is about how people are increasingly spending more of their lifetime using the internet.

The TV show is the brain-child of Australian journalist Steve Cropper, creator of My-Metaverse (www.my-metaverse.com) a social network for people involved in the new media arts on the web.

The producers have made this program using 'machinima' (machine cinema), the same technology used in popular computer games and 3D virtual worlds such as World of Warcraft and Second Life.

"We want to go deeper into how people around the world use their online time for news and entertainment, creativity, love, friendship, business, shopping, political engagement, work and play - or any other reason", said Executive Producer and host, Steve Cropper. "We also scan the internet for emerging new talent - musicians, movie makers, writers, bloggers - anyone who is contributing to the richness of digital life".

Life On Line includes a cast of seasoned bloggers, journalists and entertainers including Australian band, SpaceJunky - three people living in the US, Australia and Malaysia who collaborate, record, produce and market their music online. The line-up also boasts the Marketing Director of the Association of Virtual Worlds, Andrew Peters, of Singapore. He is also a practitioner of social networking and internet marketing campaigns. Every episode features internet news man Sigmund Leominster, a veteran blogger. The cast also includes a practicing Sydney Psychotherapist who's online name is Dr Roman Candle. He covers a range of behavioural issues describing how people interact with each other in a virtual environment. There are guest comedians and musicians and interviews with people making news across the internet.

This program is made in the style of a popular TV chat show but Executive Producer and host, Steve Cropper has not tried to re-create Conan O'Brien or Jay Leno. He said that his style is pacey and energetic but he's not so much of a 'wise-guy'.

"I do admire these hosts. It'd be great to have that kind of horse power. But our show is more down to earth and homey. We are engaging with people sitting at their computers and whilst we aim to give viewers that big TV show 'look', we are also going for a more personal and intimate 'feel'".

In classic social media style, content for the show is driven by viewers who can join the viewers' group and offer their thoughts and ideas for content on the program and the future direction of Life On Line .

Initially available on 17 websites across the internet, Life On Line is free to any website including private blogs and personal websites. Information is available at www.life-on-line.tv.

There is some speculation that LL is doing this to gain total control over intellectual properties. Should this be the case they will most likely move of second inventory next to collect that asset. This brings about a concept of personal ownership in a virtual world, the creators have their concept of intellectual property, but because the items in question were made within a virtual world format own by another company does that item belong then to the creator of the virtual world?

The Shark club & Paradise – Concert and dance club
Main Stage @ SpaceJunky Island – The band SpaceJunky’s Home
BareRose – Awesome clothing for Women, Men, Nekko’s, and Tinies.
Minx Shoes – The name says it all
Solange – Amazing clothing no mater your style
DE Designs – Every style to fit your every mood clothing designer

The OpenSpace areas are a nice alterative. They do have less prims but still very usable. I would be happy to show off what I have done with mine to anyone that wanted to drop me a line in SL. My land is only my virtual residence right now but I love how relaxing it is for me. It may sound odd, but there is something very Zen about terraforming in SL.

I want to thank those of you that took the time to read the article. I am Arra Jinx in SL, give me a shout if you see me ingame. SL truly has something for almost any roleplayer. From BattleStar Galactica RP to Mafia RP, it’s all there.

As a matter of fact here is the Surl to the BSG sim:

Interesting article, thanks.

I actually thought the topic was going to be about the drastic drop in land prices though - at one point land was selling (on the mainland) for around 7L a sqm., but now it is down to 1 - 2L per sqm.  this is one serious reduction in value!  Second Life seems to have plateaued somewhat over the past year, there used to be rapid growth and many mainstream news articles about it and now that attention is getting less and less and many residents seem to be leaving.

The OpenLife project definitely sounds interesting, and I look forward to seeing what comes out of that.

As for the post above, if you don't have the imagination to see why this might just have something a bit different to offer to ordinary life then more power to you.  It also has some very practical applications, such as education and exhibition to a global audience, that are being explored very seriously.  Don't dismiss it so quickly just because you can't comprehend it.

sorry im not trying to be ignorant i see the plus side to these things I just can't see how this is classed as a game?

What is it in this "game" that supposibly makes it a game and not a business tool?

PS I had done a little look into this along time ago it didnt appeal..

im not trying to put it down cause it obviously does appeal to a large number of people.

Second Life or SL as it is known to millions is an interactive virtual world. Linden labs the creators of second life instead of crafting a world turn a blank slate over to the community and created a world unlike any, anyone, had ever seen. Second Life is the kind of environment where you can be watching a live comedy show, get a message about a live concert from friends, and then go make out with the one you love. As to calling it a game, I would call it a social environment instead. SL is far and above the best social roleplaying game available currently in my opinion.
