I'll pre-order this bitch. While many people see the leaked videos and get negative thoughts (or however you want to put it), I know better.
I've been waiting for years now. Not for this game per se, but just a game LIKE this. I don't care how it looks. I don't care what the audio is like. I don't care about immersion. I care about the glory days of UO before I got laid for the first time. Those days when I would cut school just to GM a skill, then accidentally eat my rare coconuts while clicking around my bank. When tamers got raped, and I had six accounts because I kept getting banned for racial slurs. When I made one person stop playing the game because the anti-social onslaught was too much for him/her.
This game could look like Ultima Online and I would still buy it. Graphics are nice, but this is about a time period of gaming, not a particular game. |

For melee users, those polearms will be put away in a heavy situation in favor of a blade with not so much reach. Less friendly fire that way.
Or, of course, they could do as they want, get their friends hit, and that's more loot for me. I really don't care.
Realism isn't necessarily fun. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that, while some people romanticize their thoughts of what's enjoyable before they get into the game (i.e. "I'm gonna be a big PvP badass, 'cause I've got lots of skill and no one will be able to compete with me" and similar delusions), the "reality" of it in the game is probably going to much less glamorous than they thought it would be, no matter how "hardcore" they profess themselves to be. "Hardcore" PvP gamers are one step below internet tough guys.
Realism is always fun. Permadeath is fun. Full loot is fun. Getting ass-raped in an MMORPG by some twelve year old who just happens to outping you by 30 ms is fun. Having your heartbeat increase and your hands shake because you just got finished wiping up a four man fagfest at the Brit GY with nothing but a DPed Kryss and GM stealing skill is extra fun.
Yeah. Yeah this is going to be good. |

Search on youtube for Darkfall Gameplay Leak - REAL VOICE/UI
That should do you fine. |

Is it more "realistic"? Sure. Will it be fun? Not sure. I'm starting to see why, in most of the polls I've seen on this and the DFO website, people intend on playing ranged classes more than melee ones.

What's the problem, again? Sounds good to me. |

That. Is. Horse. Shit.
Just like Mythic lost the code to Legends of Kesmai, MageStorm, SpellBinder, etc? Horse shit.
Legends of Kesmai leaked as a matter of fact and can still be played to this day. Two player servers run it (And they have some kind of immature drama whore feud going on).
MageStorm, for instance, is probably the greatest game ever made. Those bastards WONT bring it back. Not CANT.
These business folks, they dont give a shit about what we think. They WONT bring back Pre-CU. Not CANT. At least one dev on the planet (or one FTP) has the old code saved as a backup. To tell us otherwise its just a bare faced lie.
They care about looking like idiots, and about money. They feel that pre-CU wouldn't turn over as much profit as feeding their dying horse, so they won't bring back anything. It makes me sick.
I hope the entire management team dies in a plane crash. Less people in the world I have to worry about. |

The only problem is that they make progress about as fast as the Darkfall folks. We can simply wait and hope.

Another look at what the NGE cost SOE
SWG Veteran Refuge « Star Wars Galaxies 2/02/09 7:26:39 AM
All of that and one dev who offed himself because he failed at every aspect of his life? Yeah. I hope it was worth it, SoE.
Its like those idiots screwing up Spore for the more simple minded gamers out there. Tons of complaints. But they don't care. As long as they turn a little bit of money as profit, its all good, right?
I wish SO BADLY that I had the power to order summary executions. |

Its a simple formula. A hardcore roleplayer doesnt need mechanics. I love raping poor newbies as much as the next guy, but I still roleplay my ass off when there is a situation I can do it in. Hopefully, we'll have some Roleplaying servers. Hopefully, non-RPers wont bother us. Not because I'm a carebear, but because when I kill someone, I want it to impact their soul.
Anyway, just avoiding terms like "LOL" is one "mechanic" that the players can make themselves to create a roleplaying environment. That and staying In-Character at all times. |
