Except the animations and seemingly terrible AI. Perhaps I just couldn't tell because it's a video?

Darkfalls Mob AI, while not really improved from DF1, its WAY more advance than many AAA mmorpgs out there. Including WoW, GW2, etc. Its not easy to tell from videos due to the 'not so smooth' animations and the 'buggy' at times movement, but you will understand if you ever play.

Most likely this.

Playing since release as well and never seen a hacker. Obviously they exist like in any other mmo, but saying the game is full of them is pure exaggeration and ignorance.

2/3 retention sounds decent for a game like Darkfall The key is acquisition rate being higher than the rate of those leaving.   WoW, EQ, EvE...these games enjoyed growth over 5+ years because they managed to attract more people than left.  If DF is actually good it should do this too, because unlike most recent games it didnt have a huge spike at launch.  the question is, is it good?  Im not the target audience and wouldnt ever consider playing it, but its the same with EvE.  If the game is good it will grow, if not it will slowly shrink.
That is why people should be concerned and for a few reasons:   1) Retention rate was MUCH higher for the first game for the first few months as people were willing to wait a few months because the game finally had launched - this time a lot of people have said they are not letting AV string them along again. 2) The reason this is NOT a good retention rate for DF is that it is 100% a niche game and does not have hundreds of new players buying it every day keeping an influx of new players coming -- just go read the Steam forums and why they are not even thinking about buying it   Wow and other MMO's can easily survive a retention rate like this because they have a constant influx of new players and NOT being a niche game have quite a big following; thus can survive. 3) Steam release has not brought a lot of new players and there are not many new players that you see every day.  Clanmates still see basically the same people in the starter zones every day - unlike other MMO's with solid new people joining and you constantly see new people in the starter areas 4) Tons of alt accounts that ARE clanned are about to not be re-subbed so do not go by #'s in clans at all   *** Disagree all you want but #1 and #2 are what is the bigger issue here - a niche game needs to retain more than 2/3 of their base because Darkfall will not have 100 new people a day buying this game and breathing life into it....  Also, those new guys who do try it are getting slammed right outside the safe zone by people with 30,40, 60k prowess because there is no incentive for these guys to go live out of their city when 100% everything can be done at the safe zones.

I know that all you are trying to do is bad mouth the game and arguing with you is pointless, but what you are saying makes absolutely no sense even if its meant to be blind hate.

DFUW is a new mmorpg and as in every other case of a new release there are going to be customers who will not like what they bought and therefor wont continue their subscription. Darkfall being niche is actually supposed make the number of those who quit the first month even higher, simply because this game is not for everyone and its very easy for someone to realize that.
Everyone can play a game like WoW even if its only for a few months, not everyone can play Darkfall.

Another hate thread. Didn't expect any less ofcorse.

Honestly though, is this a joke or are you just out of ideas and cant write a proper hate thread anymore?
65% saying will resub is a HUGE number for a subscription mmorpg and especially for a niche game like Darkfall.

does ps2 got a persistant world?   plz answer the question about right mouse button turning.

There is no holding down right click to look around in darkfall. The movement and aiming is like any fps game.

Think of something like Battlefield. Now in order to do actions that require mouse (ex. banking your loot)  you need to press ESC(or any keybind u like) to go to GUI mode which gives you the ability to use the mouse.

PS. You can rebind right mouse click and any other key you want to what ever you like ofcourse

Darkfalls crafting is definitely not complex, on the contrary its rather simplified.

What makes it so special is the fact almost everything in the game is made through crafting. From building up cities to making armor and weapons and from building ships to summoning mounts, cooking food and making potions.

So yea, crafters play a huge part in this game.

Wow, i cant beleive you even used this thread to spread your hate. Why cant you just let go? Go find something you like.

Originally posted by Mors.Magne It's doing well, but it's the sort of game that needs to constantly evolve. If the devs aim for a world like UO (obviously with DFUW's current graphics and atmosphere) it would be absolutely amazing. In other words, more sand must constantly be added to the sand box. And there needs to be a published plan of action, and plenty of debate / discussion with players.  Communication and a sharing of visions is healthy.
They have no plans to do this whatsoever.  In fact, there is video online of Tasos saying as much.  They want this game to be PvP conquest only, and they don't plan to add more sand, more PvE or anything else ot make it a more well-rounded game. I wish they would, because the lack of things to do other than constant PvP is what turns me off (along with all the technical issues).

And how exactly did you come to the conclusion? Please link to posts that Tasos sais they only want this game to be a PvP conquest.
The upcoming patch will include Markets and Dungeons, so your statement that they are not planning to add anything else but PvP content, is already busted.

I'm having a blast.  Why not you?
I got in at beta and despite all of the problems, I liked it at first.  Then it hit me that there's really nothing to do but pvp conquest, and I got over it.  To keep me around long term, there needs to be a lot more going on in a game, especially if the game is charging me $15 / month.

There are plenty of things to do actually. This is not a themepark, you can make your own goals. For example, build a ship, try to become a high level crafter, get into a clan and raise your PvP rank, complete feats, explore the world, get rich, build up your character, find a house, etc.

If you are expecting to just chill on your chair while the game does everything for you then Darkfall is not your type. I suggest you look into World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, Star Wars The old Republic, Elder Scrolls online, etc.

I hope you are right Badaboom. Despite my designation as a "skeptic/hater" by some here on mmorpg.com, I really do hope that DarkFall survives for its fans. DarkFall provides a niche MMO experience that is hard to find elsewhere. My main beef has been with Tasos and to a lesser degree Aventurine.  I truly believe that in the hands of more competent devs/publisher that DarkFall would be (have been) a better experience for the fans.

Well, im not so sure that another company would do a better job on a game like Darkfall. Wouldn't there be alternatives already if that was the case?
Everyone just goes for quick money grabs nowadays. They don't give a damn about that small % of gamers who like this type of games.

Come on dude. You are just trying provoke.
What i dont understand is how this game is getting so many haters. I mean, at least its trying to be different to all those wow clones out there, it was created by a small indie company and its not like it can ever be a real threat to the supposedly AAA mmorpgs like WOW, GW2, ESO, etc. I can totaly understand if you don't like it, but why all the hate? Why spam the forums with how bad you think it is?

I bought GW2 and i found it absolutely dreadful for my taste, yet i didn't bother to spam the GW2 forums, i just stopped playing and found something else to spend my time on.

Injenu was pretty much spot on on his latest message then. Nothing to see here folks, move along,

No, I wasn't. I just think the game is awful and felt i wasted my money. I am trying to see what there is to like, since there are so many fans out there. I guess I am missing something.

You are probably not missing anything and this game is just not for your taste. Darkfall is not for everyone.

What is it exactly that you are looking in an mmorpg? Are there any mmorpgs that you actually like?

. This is now fixed with the new role-school system. You can now be whatever you like the most and you are free to switch between roles whenever you want.

Theres so much tacos in this thread but let me pick this one right here, first why dont you tell how this actually works ? first there is a cooldown and you wont be changing roles whenever you want. second ,when you change your role, theres new wow-like system in place that you cant wear every armor that you like, leather for rogues, cloth for mages etc but even worse if you find better leather than your chain mail is as a warrior, you dont know how to  wear it. also it changes your health sta and mana magically when you change roles.

The cooldown is like 15 minutes and its there mostly to prevent potential exploits. Why would you want to switch roles more often than that anyways? oO

I can understand if you don't like how the mechanics in the role system work, but that's a personal opinion and completely irrelevant with this discussion.

Compairing this to the previous is it better? how are the hacks etc? Bad, curious if this is worth re-visiting in the new version. Are you enjoying it? Is the tedious parts, marcros? I read a bit on those, seems only mining macro's, the overall feel thou, you like it or kinda like "it's improved but more of the same really". Just want to read some honest opinions, IE not flamebait :P

Hacks were never a real issue in Darkfall. There were hacks ofc, like in every other mmorpg, but nothing that would ruin the fun.

There were 4 main flaws in DF1 that are now fixed in Unholy Wars.

1) Macroing.

Huge issue in DF1. Everyone was basically spending more time afk, running a script, than actually playing the game. Who ever macroed more had the strongest character. With the new prowess progression this is now almost completely fixed. You might still see a few macro junkies here and there, afk digging, but really, this is minor.

2) No skill cap.

In DF1 every character was basically a clone to each other. Same spells, same rotations, same everything. Even if you hated magic, you where forced to skill up (i mean macro) 1 billion spells in order to be viable. Personally this was the main reason i quit DF1. This is now fixed with the new role-school system. You can now be whatever you like the most and you are free to switch between roles whenever you want.

3) Grind

It was insane. You literally had to mindlessly hit mobs for hours and hours, naked with a rank 0 sword/staff/bow, in order to skill up. In UW with the new Feats and Prowess systems the skilling up process is much smoother, faster and feels a lot less grindy. You are now actually rewarded for having a variety on how you skill up (crafting, gathering pve, etc.) and the better gear you use the faster you skill up.

4) Steep learning curve.

A newbies nightmare basically. Not many new players made it through their first days in DF1. Most of them would quit after getting griefed at newbie mob spawns or after learning they need to have scripting knowledge to play this game. In UW with the tutorial zone, safe zones, feats, markets(coming soon), things are much better for new players.

I would say World of Warcraft has better gameplay then this horrible game, even though WoW is the same old typical MMORPG combat, at least the pvp is more enjoyable. When I look at videos of melee vs melee, it looks retarted, you are are simply constantly running and swinging your sword, the vast majority of people use 2 handed weapons and no one ever blocks. All you do is run around constantly and mash the swing button when you are near the enemy and think you can hit them. Really, this game is a pile of mush, the game world may be huge but many parts of it look dull and boring, the cities don't feel alive at all and the enviornments are not very diverse, I think World of Warcrafts world looks way better then this pathetic game, I quit WoW, might go back to it one day though but I doubt it, WoW is old now, stereotypical MMORPG point and click gameplay but its still has better gaemplay then this clunky piece of garbage. If any of you want a more enjoyable pvp experience that is also places a lot of importance on skill, wait for WildStar Online and maybe Black Desert Online. Firefall is a MMO shooter that is skill based to but it has yet to release a lot of features for it and is still in beta. I have always wanted to play a MMORPG that has gameplay like Elder Scrolls Skyrim, Skyrim had the best gameplay ever for melee combat, it felt realistic and you were not constantly running around like a retard swinging and never blocking like you do in this game. DF:UW will probably be dead in 5-7 years, it is a really bad arcade style Fantasy MMO that had stupid looking melee combat and horrible player models.

Wow...

I mean... wow...

I cant think of any mmorpg that has given free trial right on release. Would be a terrible marketing descision imo.

Hi everyone. I wanted to know if there's a few days trial to play this game, because i'm really interested in trying it, but i don't want to spend that much money in something that i don't know if i'm gonna like ($40 here in Argentina is a lot of money to just throw away in something you won't use). Lately i've been getting dissapointed over and over with the "new" and "exciting" games like Neverwinter and crap like that.

If there isn't any trial, do you guys have any idea if they're planning in adding it soon?

Thanks for the help.

There is no trial and i dont think they will be adding it very soon.

Best option would be to watch twitch streams, youtube videos and read about the game.

quick reply, thanks man.  The gank didnt bother me, I had expected it eventually.  I am more surprised it took me a couple hours to even find a spot to kill a mob, and then proceed to get ganked

It took you hours to find mobs? oO

What are you even talking about?
