if aion is an anime, would that make wow a saturday morning cartoon?

you spelled strength wrong in your video

I'm starting to wonder if going through all this trouble trying to convince lazy, annoying and hapless folk who would end up being future party mates you'll end up despising.

I'd say let them continue to believe whatever they want with no regrets. Let those who do their homework get rewarded.

you have read my mind....it would be a blessing if most from wow did NOT come over to aion. half of the reason i hated wow was because of the horrible community of players.

anyone know if you can have a first and last name or does it have to be one word?

it's gonna be a blast i can't wait.

Well that looks like you're just complaining about the content available from 1-50.  And honestly, it's a little lacking in a lot of games.

But seriously, I don't see how you're knocking WoW here.  Assuming you like their questing system (which is obviously the rub) you can do quests, instances, etc. all the way up to cap.  There's definitely no push to get there, nor do they make it so the game 'only starts at level cap.'  In fact the game at level cap is substantially similar to the game before level cap, minus raids.  You can PvP before cap, quest before cap, do small groups before cap, instance before cap, that's all the stuff you're doing at cap.

I'd think you'd knock a game like Lineage first, which really does have grind to cap.

Also, your definition of the End-game as boring is clearly not shared by many, many gamers.

Well, I am complaining about the lack of content but also about the extremely fast leveling in some of todays games. They can have the best content in the world but it doesn't matter if you've completed it all in 3 weeks. Then what's the point of paying for that game for a year or more?

I don't like WoW's quests at all. Hehe To me it seems pointless that you become a better Warrior, Priest or whatever by collecting plants for a NPC in town. It just doesn't make any sense to me. I mean, I could understand if it just raised a "Herbalist" skill or something but that's not the case. You get xp for doing it meaning you become better in general.

The reason I use WoW as an example is pretty simple.
1. WoW is a good example of a lot of "What not to do" in a lot of ways.
2. People know WoW, so they know what I'm talking about.

Maybe Lineage would be a good example as well, but I have never played that game, so I wouldn't really know.

The biggest problem (imho) about simple games as WoW is, they tend to change the entire gaming genre.
My first mmorpg was Asheron's Call (1) and as such I like to think when I'm playing these games. Thinking is totally pointless in easy games such as WoW. Not that everyone in WoW is stupid or anything but the game is so dumbed down...
God forbid you would actually have to think during a quest.. Or maybe you would actually have to SEARCH () for the quest items. If the quest items are always that easy to find, then why doesn't the NPC just get them? lol

If a person's first mmorpg is WoW, I'm afraid that they will forever expect all mmorpgs to be just as simple and that they will leave other games if they're challenging in any way. That would be a terrible thing for the mmorpg genre.

Ofc. some people will like raiding and other won't. That's fair enough. People are different. It makes me worried that people fall for that crap though. Repeating the same raid dungeon over and over isn't content. It's content the first few times but after that.. Then what are the raiders really paying for? You used to pay for mmorpgs because you would be getting monthly updates. That sure as hell isn't the case in a game like WoW. Weekly maintenance doesn't count as a content update.
People should really start demanding more from the mmorpg devs. The prices are going up all the time and we're getting less and less for our money.

Raiding may be fun for some people but in reality it's just the easy (and cheapest) way of keeping people paying for your game. If they made the raid loot just a bit more common, they would actually have to work for their job and release some new content once in a while. It's much easier to let people repeat the same stuff 50 times than to add 50 times the content. But.. We're still paying the same as they do in games that actually DO add more content.

Mmorpgs were never about "completing" it asap. That was what made mmorpgs different from other games.

i agree 100%. i don't understand these people who want to reach max level as fast as possible. there is really nothing at the end of an mmo except the same crap over and over. wow's "end-game content" was a joke. it was only  more of the same instances or the same 4 bg's...terrible. to me all the fun in an mmo is leveling your character. after i hit max level it won't be long before i get bored and wind up either leveling a new character or quitting the game. although the abyss seems kind of cool in aion, with the forts and everything. actually gives ya purpose.

you make way too much sense...it scares me.

I like the idea of 2 names, and I too am mad with having to have my name just right. I even do it with forum posts, hence the editing. In GW, i made a ranger called Xavier Bowstorm, without realising a storm bow existed. creepy, but if i had the chance to change it, i would.

After the wave of people playing the game with dervishes called X Derv Of Death X or something as unimaginatively STUPID as that, my taste in good names has changed a lot. My latest character, a Mesmer, is called Soradir Attero, "attero" being latin for.......something.

I'm also liking the name Shrike Valeo, shrike being a random name i liked from a past game (Red Faction 2) and Valeo following the trend of being latin for something I forget. If anyone steals it, I'll have your head!

Plus, in GW, its possible to make names like "D E R V I S H", because you need at least 2 words, but technically, all you need at least 1 space between what you've put

Anyhoo......to conclude, 2 names ftw, but people will sill be making pathetic names that they deserve to be shot for. just gives more potential for those of us with imagination

ugh god i hate names like that too...i dont know why it really shouldnt bother me but for some reason it feels like it takes away from the game a little for me when i see a name like "smokerogue" or "roflnoob"

US players don't want another grind-a-thon MMO with lack luster features/content that Korean devs are famous for period.

That's just annoying. You make it sound as if Aion is heading that way. Take a look at the game (interviews, presentations, demonstrations) instead, to be enlightened. From what I have seen, the risk is equal or larger for "western games" in development (even tho i hate generalization) to become "grinders".

Money talks a and BS walks. Until they release and prove that it's "Not Yet Another Asian Grind MMO." it won't mean anything. So far Korean developers have not proven they can break out of the stereotype they themselves built in regards to MMO design. As for L2 well..Again you can hype it up all you want but L2 was not and is not what US players want in a MMO. Numbers speak volumes as to what U.S. players want and are looking for period. Asian MMO Grind-o-thon's never do well in the U.S. and that is just a fact.

No, it's not a fact becuase unfortunatly you didn't check if your facts were right. Maple Story, Silkroad, Final Fantasy XI andLineage 2 have all done well and better than many western MMORPG's. They also have proven they can get out of the common stereotype but again this is a lack of knowledge on your part.

Take away the Asian market and the F2P games with item malls and what do you have? Sorry your point is moot and irrelevant. Again strictly speaking about the US Pay2Play MMO market Asian MMO's have never dominated or done all that great in the U.S. The dominate MMO's in the us have been EQ1 and WoW with Daoc and EQ2 being considered runner up's. FXII and L2 in the U.S. were never popular and I could care two turds about how they did in the Asian market. For Aion to penetrate and do will into the U.S. market they will need to drop their Korean MMO habits or else face the grave yard of Asian MMO's that failed and/or did poorly over the long haul.

Final Fantasy XI had over 600k subscribers at it's peak time, considering the popularity of Final Fantasy XI and the fact Japan isn't the largest MMO country in the world, it's very safe to assume that Final Fantasy XI had around 200k ~ 300k subscribers in the west, which would rank it right up there with Dark age of Camelot and Everquest 2. Lineage 2 has around 100k ~ 120k subscribers in the US and it's subscriber base doesn't seem to be dropping over the years, which is more than can be said about many western MMORPG's.

Again am I am talking about U.S. numbers here. The Western market also includes Europe and the Aussies but strictly speaking the U.S. numbers were never that great compared to other well established US based MMO's period as I stated. EQ1 had around 1 million US players at it's hieght and DAOC reached around 500,000 so FXII never really had that great of a following in the West period in relation to other US based MMO's.
Also separate the Euro and Aussie subscribers from your remark and you'll see your comment in a whole different light. US numbers for FXII once you take out European subs and Aussie subs were not that great overall compared to other US based MMO's.
L2 at one time had 100k-120k I'll grant you that but those were in the hey day when it first launched. US numbers now I'd wager are no where near the 100k mark period. I'd like to see where you got those numbers anyways to see if they have not just lumped in Aussie and European subscribers into the US stats.
Even now though those numbers are meaningless because FXII and L2 have all taken huge hits from American MMO's. U.S. players have grown bored of the Korean grinders and bots that infest them. The majority of U.S. players who once played those games have long since moved onto other MMO's and only the hardcore players remain. These being people who have invested to much time to call it quits.

It's obvious you did not do your research. Everquest peaked at around 550k subscribers not 1 million, and Dark age of camelot peaked at around 250k subscribers, not 500k.
Asian MMO's have not taken huge hits from American MMO's, they have taken hit from one American MMO. A vast majority of mmo players moved on to WoW, not just from asian games but also from DaoC, EQ, EQ2, SWG etc etc. Lineage 2 is currently doing quite well with over 120k subscribers (considering there are only 2 european servers, it's safe to say about 90k ~ 100k is doing in the US). This means it's currently outperforming many western MMO's.
www.mmogchart.com

As you can see it's not just asian, but most western MMORPG's took a hit after the release of WoW.

That chart is very out of date and incorrect. Sorry but the site where you got that chart from has been known for its inaccurate data collecting methods because a lot of MMO's don't even release their numbers to the public like SOE. In fact many people who have investigated the site have pointed out that the author of that specific website in most cases is just taking a guess at the numbers he lists for some MMO's because as I said some MMO's don't list their subs or have different methods of counting/collecting sub information. In other words there is no consistency and reliable method of data collecting sub numbers for many MMO's and in the end at best it's just guesstimate analysis of MMO sub numbers.

Admit you just grabbed that chart just because it's on the internet and you think people believe everything they read/see on the internet didn't you?

im sorry but...don't you get your information from the internet, as well, or do you work at all of these places?

i really hope 1-50 in aion isnt like wows 1-60, because to be honest, wow was way too easy to level in. the faster ya get to max level the faster you wind up doing the same crap over and over and to me all the fun is leveling.

wow, im definitely going to be asmodian, i just hope the server i join isn't one sided.

first and last name?

youre right it can be tough sometimes to think to a name. They should just do what they did in guild wars as fara s names go, but allow people to have one word names if they want to as well. (i cant remember if guild wars forced at least 2 words or not)

its only not that because they have different names and back stories but for the most part there is no better analogy than angels vs demons....plus he said "kinda" like that, which it is.

btw i agree i do like the whole theme it looks really cool and i cant wait to play!

i meant no offense in my reply, sorry if it sounded that way.

you really find it that hard to think of a name? just sit back and use your imagination. imo its easier to actually think of first and last name because alot of names sound funny just by itself. (ex. dragonbane ; rhya dragonbane) just sounds more awesome with a first name.
