This isn't even close to being accurate. If daoc had 3 factions but shitty wow pvp mechanics and system it would have been considered a sucky game. If daoc had 3 factions but the guild wars pvp mechanics and system it would have been considered a pretty good game. 

I didn't say it was the only reason the game is highly rated, I said it was the #1 reason.  You may disagree, but think about it for a second.  What is DAOC remembered for?

Also, I stick to my opinion.  You have yours and I have mine, I don't think there's going to be a middle ground here because for me personally, the actual "gameplay" in DAOC was... just ok.

Combat was slow and boring, AoE classes and Skalds were overpowered, leveling was painful, etc.  The combat was decent enough that I could tolerate it to participate in something I really enjoyed, the 3 faction warfare.

The number of factions isn't what makes playing a game awesome. The gameplay mechanics, and in cases of mmo pvp, the pvp mechanics are what matter. Having a 3rd faction can only make a great game more fun than it already is, but the 3rd faction isn't THE reason it is great. 

How can you even say this?  Where's your point of refrence for line of reasoning?  Thinking back on my MMO gaming experiences the only games I would rate higher than DAOC as far as quality of the PvP would be completely factionless, open PvP games.

No game I can think of with just 2 factions even comes close to the fun I had in DAOC.

 I have to agree with this. It seems very short sighted to assume that " 3 factions = win "

Of course not, and I never said that.  I don't somehow think that putting bacon on top of pile of rotten meat is going to somehow magically make it taste delicious.  But putting bacon on a plain 100% angus burger that just came off the grill only makes it better.

Maybe the warcraft lore is great, no, it is great, but you would never know in World of Warcraft because all you do in that game is farm "daily"s and raid for loot, story is no where to be found in that game except for small pages of quest lore that absolutely no one reads except for a minority who likes to read random quest drivel that has nothing to do with the main story plot

 

A WoW clone it is not, IF you think that you are in for a either a rude awakening or a very nice suprise if you dont want it to be but are having doubts, already from the quest demo i can see this game is absolutely nothing like WoW and is going trampel FFXI and FFXIV for storytelling IN YOUR GAME, and not just on a piece of paper

I think I'd almost rather have a WoW clone.

 

Maybe if I close my eyes it'll almost feel like I'm playing Kotor 3, and not some horrible Diablo kotor hybrid

If this game is exactly like WAR except with a different setting and TPS combat, I will play it.

But I doubt it will be as bad as WAR.

I've played the beta off and on for months now.  I knew this wasn't going to be a smooth launch -- mmo's never are, and I'm more than willing to give indie devs some extra room -- but this is one of the worst launches I have ever seen.  I'd say it needed months, but at the pace SV has taken since I started the beta, this thing needed another year or more in development just to call itself a game.  If this game somehow lasts a year, it may really bring something unique to the genre, but that's a very big if.  At the moment, MO is strictly for the deluded and masochistic few.

Westward Journey doesnt have subscribers, it has registered users. People use prepaid time cards to play.

 

What I find funny is that the forums have been going crazy over free to play the past week and only 4 MMOs on that list are monthly fee.

DDO has a fourth model. It's subscription with microtransactions.

WoW is the most populated subscription based MMORPG, but not even close to the most populated MMORPG.
