Darkfall Hit Spam Manipulation of MMORPG.com Popularity Counter
General Discussion « Darkfall 9/25/11 10:50:29 AM
Really makes you wonder if it's Aventurine botting those hits or a 3rd party. |

Originally posted by Aluvius It's well over 2 years later. Many players who've played legit are either "maxed" or have reached a very top "tier" competitive threshold. New Players would still heavily struggle if they joined 1 or 2 years later, and I'd actually argue that DarkFall might have "died" had it not been for Macro'ing which made the main aspects of the game bearable, and gave players with a job a chance to stay competitive and keep playing. That really helped players stick around. Sadly, the game still falls shorts in so many aspects which has resulted in a terribly low population, with the mention of the wipe making it even lower. |

Wakfu: PAX – The Pandawa and Drunken Martial Arts
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/17/11 10:29:13 AM
It doesn't really have anything to do with WoW however :P Although the Pandawa was added to Dofus (Wakfu's predecessor) in 2006-2007, it's actually a derivation of "Padawan" rather than Pandaren. Most of Dofus/Wakfu's classes have their names taken by either twisting a word (mainly french words) or reading it from right to left instead. For exemple the "Xelor" class = Rolex, Sadida = Adidas, Erinipsa = Aspirin(e), and so on. |

Originally posted by byz4ntinian It was actually called "DarkFall Arena" (after failing to launch DarkFall 2010 in...2010) and was only recently dubbed "DarkFall 2.0" somewhere around June back when Tasos made the very first mention of the Wipe which caused and still cause some pretty big outrage on the forums
Edit: I'd also like to point out that according to AV's words, DarkFall 2.0 was only in a planning stage and that they had a completly different team working on it which would not affect DarkFall...but we all know now that was a complete bunch of lies. |

New to the game need help, error when trying to log in
General Discussion « Dragon Nest 9/05/11 7:56:36 PM
Ah, that might be why then. You do have to launch the game from the website since the websites sends your Account Information to the Client Server upon launching the game, which is why you're getting the "Login Auth" error since there's no information being sent. I launch the game just fine using FireFox. If you use FireFox and can't Launch the game from there, it's possible that you might be missing a plug-in called "Nexon Game Controller 1.0.1.2". If you allow Adds-on, it should fix the issue. |

New to the game need help, error when trying to log in
General Discussion « Dragon Nest 9/05/11 7:25:52 PM
I've searched around, but was unsuccesfull sadly.
However I have a few suggestions you could look into, as these can also be used in other Nexon's Games. I do not know if all of these will apply on any OS older than XP however. -Make sure your windows is fully up-to-date. Including the latest version Microsoft.NET Framework (should be 4 Client Profile and 4 Extended). -In Regional and Language Options (Control Panel), make sure that "English (United-States)" is selected for both the Regional Option tab and the Advanced Option tab. -Make sure that Dragon Nest isn't being blocked by a Firewall of Virus Scanner. -Clear Internet Cache and whatnot just in case. Might also try with a different browser if you have one.
That's all I can think of, sadly. Hope it helps. |

Originally posted by Realbigdeal Just because DF players stopped playing DarkFall, doesn't mean they won't play anything else, or that there isn't anything else they like. Gamers aren't as shallow as you may think. In fact, a large majority of us are simply waiting for a better game to come out and leave DarkFall in the dust the moment this happens. Lots of games that have caught the interest of many players and ex-players alike (from ArcheAge to Guild Wars 2 or The Secret World).
Regarding the time it takes to grind a character to max, the discussion is pointless. DarkFall 2.0 is years away from releasing, and considering AV's terrible reputation, I do not plan to take anything they say seriously until I view actual proofs. I've learned this from Launch already, I don't plan to make the same mistake again. As they say: "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. "
As for the wipe thing, we didn't get more info. It's the same thing they've said in previous updates but with a different wording. They're playing safe without answering anything. |

Originally posted by Realbigdeal Kyleran is right. If Aventurine indeed decides to wipe over 2.5 years of character progression, this will create doubts in the players. Doubt as to wether or not this means that Aventurine might wipe again the server in an uncertain future, so that all the progress that players have made will go down the drain once again. Players don't want that, and this would seriously make players think twice about subscribing to DarkFall. Not only that, but Aventurine already has....quite the bad reputation and it is unsure wether or not DarkFall 2.0 will indeed deliver. As pointed out by this thread on ForumFall which only compiles some of the promises made since the beginning of 2010, Aventurine has a clear history of broken promises, and lies, and an impressive amount of delays. DF may be one of a kind, but players are only willing to handle so much. Aventurine will eventually hit the limit, and the future of Aventurine depends entirely on DarkFall 2.0.....which we won't even see until 2012 minimum. |

Originally posted by strangerdang That is simply untrue. Ultime Online being one of the more obvious exemple. You could max out fairly quickly (1 week to 1-2 month for casuals) and the game was filled with Sand. You wouldn't be grinding anymore, it was all about the actions you took that would define who you (your character) are in the world. In UO you could craft, you could steal, you could write books, tame, kill players, defend players, etc and your actions had more impact in the world.
Or EVE. Has incredible amount of depth, and is clearly about the journey. Wether you decide to resisde in 0.0 and become part of a larger alliance or become more of a lone wolf/small group raiders, discover hidden locations in search of rare minerals and materials. Or stick to 1.0 and learn the ways of the market and whatnot. It's amazing all the options available to you in EVE.
DarkFall, on the other hand, is a RvR FFA PvP Themepark without most restrictions, A box without sand. There are no classes, but there are no specializations or soft/hard caps either, which forces players to acquire everything to compete. There are no limits to crafting either which strongly encourages all players to acquire them, which deters dedicated crafters. Despite actually being intended for Races to have meanings, they have none because of the lack of restrictions which had made what was intended to be mostly RAC, into a game purely of ARAC beating on each other for no purpose. DarkFall was suppose to be great for crafters, have trade routes and whatnot along with Localized Banking, but there is none and Fast Travel has made this even more pointless. There is no Economy, there is no Meaning, Consequences, Incentives, nothing. What DarkFall has is simply this: Bumper Cars and King Of The Hill. Strip a PvP Themepark of most of it's restrictions (Class, Levels/Level Requirements, Player Killing Restrictions, etc), remove instancing and add Full Loot and you get DarkFall. The only thing to do in Darkfall is Grind and kill Players, and that's nothing remotely close to a Sandbox, as fun as the PvP might be. |

Dragon Nest: Edge of Darkness Patch Deployed
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/02/11 8:05:15 PM
Fairly disappointing patch in all honesty. The carnival is rather boring and easy, while the Jealous Atrium makes it clear that you will need to grind for quite a long time to gear up on upgraded Ancient Gear to do a good job. |

Why you should ignore the haters and try Darkfall.
General Discussion « Darkfall 8/31/11 5:35:53 AM
Originally posted by kakasaki This is something I must entirely disagree with. Aventurine set out to deliver a Sandbox FFA PvP experience, with meaningful consequences and depth. The reality turned out to be otherwise, the Sandbox aspect turned out to be almost non-existant given the many limitations and restrictions. Pre-made House and Clan City locations and placement. Little to no economy because of oversight in the mechanic, loot tables and lack lf skill cap/specializations. Complete lack of consequences caused by a poorly designed alignement system (made worse since Chaos Churches that has killed PvP for anyone wishing to be blue) and a poor design of Racial Alliance/Enemies that allows any players to be a traitor to their race with no consequences. Lack of tools for players to really create their own content, instead Fun Hulks and Fun Flags were introduced (Bumper Cars basically) and Slot Machines.
In the PvP department, although DarkFall does offer a superior PvP experience than most other games, the major imbalance caused by the lack of skill cap or specialization has killed it for many. New Players have little chance to compete against Veterans and should they even manage to get the upper hand, Veterans have all the necessary abilities to run away with bunnyhopping at high speed, thus saving their asses.
Darkfall has alienated it's very own niche since Launch with promises that were quickly removed in BETA, early Launch or were simply never introduced. Is it a bad game? Not necessarily, but to say that they delivered what they promised is wrong. |

If games like Dragon Nest or Vindictus are not considered an MMO, then I haven't played an MMO since RIFT's last beta ended. More or less gave up on the genre at the moment and just playing action games that can provide fast and challenging entertainment without the overly repetitive tasks that felt like working a second job (which I had to pay for instead of getting paid...go figure).
Still waiting for that "one" MMO that will blow my mind away, but until then...not playing MMOs. |

HoN's a fun game. Will take a pretty big hit once DOTA 2 launches, but I think LoL will take a hit too, although not as important, given the direction DOTA 2 seems to be taking (much more newbie friendly and more options). But until then, HoN fills the gap perfectly. |

Originally posted by Drognak Just like to add to this point, you don't need Clear Mind. In fact, North America and Europe are the only server that has Clear Mind. It's actually not necessary at all. Each monsters have their patterns/AI settings, the trick is to figure out the patterns and fight accordingly.
For exemple, (Blue) Rat Man's pattern can be read by reading what they say (they have chat bubbles). Wisps use a system of "!" "!!" "!!!" "!!!!" and "!!!!!" which represents Normal Attack, Defense, Lightning Bolt, Smash, and Counterattack. Kobold and Goblins will often use Smash but walk (instead of running) as if they were using Defense and run after a few seconds, etc. List goes on like that. |

They prolonged the Open Beta a little and the game will officially launch in the near future. |

Originally posted by strangerdang The issue isn't the vacations per se. I don't think people actually see any issues with that. But for Aventurine, they've yelled "Wolf" so many times we just don't know when it's true and when it's not. Lots of their posts are about "sorry, delay this week so come back next week" type of update with "insert random excuse taken from a hat". It gets tiring and since AV are now completly working on DF 2.0, they aren't bothering at all with DarkFall 1.0. There's also the notion of wipe still in the air, hard for people to decide wether to keep playing or take a break until DF2.0 (if it ever releases) |
