and darkfall, ive been following that for a few months and it looks soooo promising, but with the delays and limited leaks etc etc... its hard to tell if i should wait?

There's limited leaks because they still change a lot of things in the game. Got a few clans mates who are in the Open Beta right now and I only hear good stuff about it. It is still quite possible that the game may be delayed for a 2 or 3 weeks though since not all features have been added yet, or it's possible that the game will be released on due date and some features will be added after. That's all I'm allowed to say :P

Gosh people need to stop crying over stupid things...just read the whole 7 pages and I can't stop laughing....how stupid can one be. People are just trying to find bad things about Blizzard because they "hate blizzard for banning my account because I used to bot" or whatever.

So what Blizzard is sueing MDY for "peeking in WoW.exe" ?. Who actually cares? Is the only thing you can say is that now blizzard will try to sue everyone to make money everytime they peek in WoW.exe ..... how dumb must one be to think this. Blizzard would never do such stupid things. The whole point of sueing the bot company was to:

1- Remove most bots in the game
2- Scare future bot makers
3- Scare potential bot users

I don't think we should actually care about how MDY was sued. From the moment they broke ToU, it's already over. Blizzard can use the technique they want to make sure MDY is closed. Who cares if people see it as "unfair" ....QQ MORE! MDY will hopefully shut down after the final verdict during the appeal, Blizzard will hopefully get his hand on bot users list and ban them. DONE. WoW will be one of the cleanest games when it comes to botting. Only thing that will remain are the gold farmers but if I remember, some players sued one of the gold farmers company last year. Never had any news about it though. Still, they're way easier to take care of.

Beside, I really doubt Blizzard would do anything stupid like sueing a company for peeking into WoW.exe if it isn't for botting. Otherwise Blizzard would've sued xFire long ago.....Keep it real please.

Final Fantasy XI: I love final fantasy as a series. i wanted to love XI soooo much. but time is an issue with me... so is patience. having to spend a half hour to find a group or make one, then 20 minutes to walk to the place we need to be, then an hour to kill the boss after we've fought an hour to get to it, just isnt viable for me. that said i do like the classes... i dont mind grinding... but i HATE level grinding. just erks me, dunno why.

Warhammer:the only one im currently paying for. I like the customization, the setting is fun (but only because i like the fluffy lore), the leveling is well rounded and the hugely open world and tome of knowledge are awesome! I love to explore... i get rewarded for it! kinda dont like that the endgame is pvp. and some of the mid game. and well, some of the early game. eh i guess i dont like having to be on my toes constantly to progress.

Im not partial to any sort of setting (although id rather control a character than a ship...) but i guess im looking for "Oblivion:Online" as far as game style goes. I love to solo play.. because its convenient, but i also like to group, however i dont like being forced to do so (that open grouping in WAR is nice). Is there anything out there that sounds right for me?

DarkFall? As I said in another topic, if you liked Oblivion, you will like DarkFall. They're very similar  except that DF is mostly Open World PvP and Full Body Looting. The game doesn't have any character level; only skill levels (like Oblvion, the more you use a skill the stronger is gets). I'd give it a look if I were you and if you have trouble with joining group or anything, the forum is filled with very active clans/guild of all type (mercenary, assassin, order, merchant guild etc) who are still recruiting (the whole game requires you to be with people, not only to kill monsters but because it is safer :D but also to join Clan Wars/Base raiding, Town raiding, town control etc). I'd give it a check even if Full Body Looting might scare you a bit.

Only 256 MB of memory?  Are you sure about that?  WoW basically won't run on that, and I doubt Guild Wars would do well on that little memory, either.

All the games he mentionned would never run on that except for RuneScape.

To OP

Upgrade your computer and join .... there really isn't any game that suits those requirements actually.....I would suggest DarkFall but it's a open world PvP (mainly PvP based actually) and gameplay is very similar to Oblivion. DarkFall is also skill based. Crafting is the only way to get your armors and weapons. Though you don't have to craft as you can find a crafter to do the job. Full Body Loot (if you die, your body can be fully looted by other players). You can solo the game as it isn't character level based but skill based (the more you use a skill the stronger it gets) but that's only for the weak monsters (goblins, kobold, giant double sword user, etc) the rest will require that you get into party otherwise you won't survive long :D (the AI is pretty intelligent, if it has low HP it will run away and nuke you with spells or shoot arrows at you, or 4 goblins will attack you and while 2 of them are sniping the others will attack you with melee or nuke you with spells and run away to snipe...etc )

As I said DarkFall is pretty close to Oblivion so you fight using a FPS view and unlike MMOs where you just sit there and press your skills, you will have to move around, jump back, left or right to avoid a hit, etc. You will also have to aim when you use the bow or any magic.

It's a SandBox by the way :P

Thought DF might not be exactly what you're looking for, since you've played Oblivion (and I hope liked it) it's quite possible that you will like DarkFall.

WAR and lord of the rings monthly cost is to pricey :(

Same price as WoW, etc.....

As for suggestion, I'd suggest you give a bit more details about what you like/dislking about the game. "Something good" doesn't say much.

Do you want PvE or PvP, Giant Lore, Cute graphics or Realistic graphics, Fantasy or Sci-Fi, WASD gameplay or Point and Click? Quest Based or Grind based? Turn-Based or not? etc....

casual play (maybe a couple hours a day, but then several hours on weekends)

That's definitively not "casual" lol

I'd suggest Atlantica Online, which is the only game that comes to my mind. The game can be soloed but until level 40-50 it gets harder and people tend to party more. There's also a level limit world chat that can be used to find players who are around your level and who are doing the same dungeon you are (An exemple of chat level limit: a level 10 will only see people level 1-15 (not sure about the exact number but it's around that). There's always people online too regardless of what time it is.

Got a few people in my clan who are currently in the "Open Beta" and the game is running pretty well and there isn't a lot of bug and when they find one it is fixed in a matter of hours. So all I can read on your post is someone who speculate about something he doesn't know  much about.

Yes DarkFall  fail or not and as for the 10M budget, it's probably one of the reasons why it took so long to finally release it.  Then again people shouldn't overhype about it as they will then have unrealistic expectation and the game will fail if it happens. But since I only hear good things about the game right now, I doubt it will fail on the release.

Anyway, don't judge a game by how much money was invested in it. Judge it by the final result.

I'd have to say Warhammer Online : Age Of Reckoning. Though it is mostly PvP, you can taste the full content of the game from the beginning and you're level doesn't matter THAT much compared to PvP in most games. There's also many lore/items hidden around the world for you to find. The community is good too.

Otherwise I'd suggest you wait for games like  DarkFall. This game is skill-based  meaning that your character will be able to experience the same content has a veteran. I'd suggest you read into it as I don't feel like enumerating EVERY aspect of DarkFall as there is many things to say :P

Is there a need to bump your own topic 3 times? Google "Tales Of gameplay MMO" and see what happens.

Go for LoTRO and while you're at it, join the xFire LoTRO event (play 10, 20, 50+ hours and you can win subscriptions months)

Seriously LotRO is a nice game and I tried it. It's really decent, I like the RP feeling, the story is good but didn't like the gameplay though but that's just my personal preference (it's like WoW).

Otherwise Warhammer Online but the game is PvP/RvR based.

Call of duty 2, diablo 2 Warcraft IIII are not MMO's.  They are actually limited to the amount of players that can be on one server at a time not to mention theres not as many updates from the companies as there are by the players.  WW2 online would be closest to call of duty, for diablo 2 would be closer to say DarkEden.  And warcraft 3 theres a game out there (cant remember the name) that was a cross between RTS and MMO.

MMOFPS includes games like Soldier Front, CrossFire, Combat Arms etc and though they also have limited amount of players, they are considered as MMOFPS. The only difference I find between those and CoD2 is that in CoD2 you don't gain "XP" for killing/winning. If that's the case than I'll replace CoD2 with CoD4.

As for Diablo 2 and Warcraft III, some people call them MMOs and some don't for the same reason you stated: "They are actually limited to the amount of players that can be on one server at a time". The other party (same as my opinion)would say that: 'As long as it is online and involve players around the world without the use of LAN , then it's a MMO'. Then again, it's just the way you interprete things.

Well, wakfu isnt open beta or yet or alike. Ah, I know what I could go for anything but; Cutesy >< waaayyy too many games with the aim of targeting kiddie audiences. I do recall one that was pretty good, I think it was S4 league, good gameplay, but lacking in pve elements, strictly pvp :/. Can't help noticing the ads around the mmorpg.com site, is Atlantica any good?

Small mistake there, S4 League is a shooter :P not a MMORPG and PvE doesn't exist.

As for Wakfu: I think it is in Open Beta, as for the graphic: it's an update from Dofus which is a game that is ....6 or 7 years old now. There's also an anime serie and a manga (based on the characters from the game) which explains the "cute" graphics. Gameplay is Turn-Based (Final Fantasy Advance Tactic gameplay).

As for Atlantica: The game is indeed good, the grind is good, the whole economy thing is player based but the game is Turn-Based (Final Fantasy serie type of gameplay). It'd recommand it if you like Turn-Based.

There's a couple of games that ruined a lot of genre for me.

Dofus: For the RTS (Final Fantasy Tactic) feeling. (MMORPG)
WAR: For the PvP/RvR and good graphics.          (MMORPG)
Call Of Duty 2: Good looking 19xx shooter            (MMOFPS)
Diablo 2: For good story, many classes and many different builds     (MMORPG)
Warcraft III: for the real RTS feeling              (MMORTS)
S4 League: Fast-Paced action shooter          (MMOFPS)
The Elder Scroll serie: Though not MMO, I haven't found a decent MMO that could match TES when it comes to the great open world, deep story and the amount of possibilities and choice. (RPG)

These pretty much ruined every other MMO out there. I can't stand games that are not similar to these as I find them not only boring but as complete failures and an attempt at copying something greater in order to make money, in other word: Scam.

AoC or LotRO?

I believe both games have Free Trials...why not try and see for yourself?

Topic is in the wrong section. Post in "LFGame" if you're looking for a game.

Dofus (turn-based MMORPG). Other games were pretty much all named already :P

I suppose MMOs shout start using the same system as Chaos Online regarding Gold Farm bots. If you are the first to report a gold farmer, his account will be banned and you will receive 10% of all the gold the bot had accumulated on his account. Probably the only good thing about this game though. Would be a good idea to close those sites but it will probably never happen.

That's the thing though.  Back about oh I dunno 7 years ago maybe a bit more there used to be plenty of diversity concerning game play styles.  There used to be EQ for the PvE people, DAoC for a good mix of PvE and PvP, Shadowbane for the hardcore PvP crowd, Earth and Beyond for the space flying type and so on.  If you didn't like one style of play you could always try the next one.

Now all you get is a carbon copy of other games with supposed revolutionary features that end up falling flat on their faces.  I still think that the genre in of itself has sold its soul for a larger bank account.  Creativity is sorely lacking and I think it's due to the fact that investors have the developers by the balls.

Someone said that somewhere that game designers seemed to be afraid of  making something completly new and full of diversity because they don't know wether gamers will like it or not. So all those sissies can only "shit" the same MMO over and over again but using different names.

Luckily, we have companies that are actually ready to take this bet and give us something completly fresh (DarkFall,  Mortal Online,  etc). That is where hope lies! Players are tired of being glued to a linear and repetitive story that does gives all the games in the game list.

What we want is the blood of a virgin....something new....something that hasn't been tainted yet....

I guess you could give Warhammer a try. The game is PvP / RvR oriented and raiding can be quite challenging at higher tier. Obviously it's a P2P and you can craft (only difference is that you don't craft level grind as much as WoW).  Not sure about the sandbox though.

Well, they are both F2P so just DL them and try them too see which one you like!

Agreed.

(To OP)If you had done a bit of research about both games before posting here maybe would've found the answer already. Website like MMORPG and MMOHUB  gives plenty of infos about them.
