Originally posted by Grailer I have to admit, the trailer definitely seems to show a game with promise. Only two things I don't approve of:
1. Not once in there did I see anything resembling a black desert.
2. That black poodle cat thing has to go. |

[Column] General: Dead MMOs and Emotional Connections

Brilliant, sir, and well played.
I love gaming, but I don't think I've had had the sort of emotional attachment to a character or game as Mr. Barreiro is exhibiting. Bacon, yes. Beer, most assuredly. Games? Nah. |

If you look at the majority of the threads containing a-holes on forumfall, you'll see multiple posts by the same people. These people are not representative of the game as a whole. In my clan of 25-30 actives, maybe 2 of us post on the forums on a semi-regular basis; I usually end up posting in the tech support thread when something's broken.
Judging the game by a few lost souls is not the best way to research a game.
As far as shunning box + sub games, that's your prerogative. But in a game like DFUW, a cash shop (which would be the only way to make money) would surely kill the game. P2W accusations would cause even more problems, and lead to AV's downfall.
I'm enjoying the game along with a lot of others who don't care to post on the forums. Having too much fun in game to bother Forumfalling. |

1/3 people not resubbing - not looking good
General Discussion « Darkfall: Unholy Wars 5/09/13 5:59:40 AM
I'm still playing and plan on resubbing; the same goes for the 20-25 players in my clan who play consistently (at least a little bit every day). That said, if there isn't more content added, fluff or not, then who knows if that will remain the case. As much fun as I'm having now, the same old same old gets boring after a while.

Geez...a guy starts a thread ezplaining that he's having fun in the game, and all these folks flock in to say that he's wrong for having fun and/or that DFUW is a poop game. There's gotta be something more constructive you can do with your time, folks. Like, maybe, play some DFUW. =D

Unholywars VS darkfall: The grind gap
General Discussion « Darkfall: Unholy Wars 4/28/13 6:52:38 AM
Originally posted by Hotjazz It seems like you want to be given a maxed out character. What you say is true, but it's true in EVERY mmo. Casual players, regardless of the game they're playing, won't catch up to those who put the time in. In WoW, for example, if you want the top tier raiding gear, you raid. Casuals who don't raid don't get the gear.
It's a shame you feel like you won't ever catch up, so I guess this is where I ask if I can have your stuff when you quit... |

As a DF1 "vet" who was in a 2-3 month long rage fit over the changes in aesthetics and gamepley (classes, etc), I'm enjoying the hell out of the game. There have been vast improvements over what I experienced in early beta, and the reworked prowess system is ok with me. The delay/hitching problems that prevailed early on don't seem to be present any longer, but there are reports of memory leaks leading to stuttering performance. I've noticed some of this stuttering after playing for a few hours; that's usually my queue that I should go pee or get a sandwich or something.
Overall, the game's certainly not finished, but it's a load of fun. It's all about what one expects from the game he/she is playing. It's AV, so I didn't expect much, and was delivered more. As long as they keep communication up and listen to the players (as they've been doing), the game should turn out to be pretty spiffy.

That's fine and great for PvE, but pressing one key and sitting back during a PvP engagement is folly.

Explain this idea of "Immersion" to me.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/19/13 1:15:30 PM
The only time I've ever felt "immered" in a game was with Morrowind, never with an MMO - and I've played enough to have a good stable to choose from. Some may use it to describe actually feeling like they're inside the game, but (on these forums especially) I think it's more of a reason to talk trash about a certain game. "Oh, yeah, WoW - I couldn't stand it. That LFG breaks the immersion for me" or some such.

How does this new release compare to the old Darkfall?
General Discussion « Darkfall: Unholy Wars 4/18/13 5:24:08 AM
Originally posted by Mors.Magne You now level up your skills via prowess points, which are gained by doing just about anything - harvesting, crafting, killing mobs. The more you harvest/gather/kill in increments, the more prowess you get. You then allocate those points to your skills for harvesting/crafting/combat, or you can spend them on stat boosters, i.e.e strength, dex, etc.
The world was actually made smaller by AV, and there are less holdings and no chaos cities.
The NPC quests are nonexistent, aside from the kill (x) of this mob in the dungeons, I believe.
The character models have all been made the same size, so with armor on, it really doesn't matter which race you chose. This is the biggest =( for me; as the models and size of the models in DF1 were what gave me that "Holy Crap, this is awesome!" feeling. The combat system doesn't seem to be as fluid, and there are classes (yeah, AV calls them roles): Warrior, Elementalist, Primalist, and Skirmisher. Pretty limited set of combat skills.
Mana missile is still there, though.
Overall, it's a shell of DF1, pretty much a completely new game with a little bit of the feel of DF1; I'm playing it, though. Might as well. Maybe by 2019, AV can figure it all out and make a happy mixture of the two games. |

That helped me with one of the pepatcher errors, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything about the ridiculously slow patch download I'm getting. Oh well. AV being AV.

Which of these alive MMO titles would you like to see shutting down
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/16/13 5:58:00 PM
I don't want to see any games shut down. If someone is making money off of people enjoying their game, it's a win/win. If I don't like it, I won't play it. Even as distraught as I am over the second iteration of Darkfall, I don't feel the need to wish it would shut down. I'd like to kick some of the development team in the giblets, but I don't want their game to shut down.

This game is not worth the hassle imo

I played Darkfall 1 for three years. I played the beta enough to know it's not what I wanted Darkfall to devolve into. Perhaps for different reasons, I agree with the OP.

Should game developers post banned players character names?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/16/13 6:20:30 AM
Well, it's not like the companies (in this case, Aventurine) is posting real life names with addresses and phone numbers...they're posting character names and the offenses. New account, reroll, new life. Some players in DF1 were banned multiple times, only to snag a new account and start over.

Best of luck in your endeavors; that said, I'm not sure how the animations from DF1 put you off, but the new ones don't. Everyone looks the same, man.

After playing the original Darkfall for a few years, starting about a month and a half after launch, I have to say that the "new" game is pretty lackluster. I'm not a fan of the class system (half of which aren't in game yet), and the characters all look the same with the same armor (unless that changed).
I doubt AV will ever get their acts together, but good luck to the folks playing. |
