Thanks, Oomi. Tuxide, you appear to think that PS is a game like any other. Sad...

Quite simply, there is a conspiracy of PlaneShift players that pumped the ratings. Some people really enjoy the game the way it is.

While we are duly impressed with Tuxide's caveat of getting the first guildhouse on the new server and then offering it for a billion tria on the old server... I cannot be impressed with his threatening to buy the next (and presumably other) guildhouses that come up for sale. I do think that allowing this to happen would be contrary to the spirit of PlaneShift itself. It deserves consideration by the GM team.

I should mention, based on my original post, that I really don't see a new GM team on the new server. This is only an observation, there are barely enough GMs to cover one server right now. And, as past experience has proven, it is best to emphasize quality, rather than quantity when it comes to GM presence in this game. I can say that the GMs that I have interacted with recently have been very pleasant to deal with.

This game is not really finished. Monsters are simply placeholders right now, they have very little AI behind them. There is not a lot of great detail to the fighting systems and there are plenty of map issues. But it is worth noting that PlaneShift (Atomic Blue) has been providing a free working distro on three operating systems, a free server (now two), and a framework for interaction that appears to draw and keep many people.

A new server with, apparently, a new GM team. And most importantly a clean database. For once, the roleplayers are freaking out because of game changes. Good work, PlaneShift.

The game is stated as being in development, it is not a finished release. The lack of models does not trouble me. The background stuff for character creation is an interesting try, and the devs know it needs to be redone.

The forums being down happened recently for the first time in years. The project is not managed from some central office. It is different people doing different things. There is no "staff" as you would normally envision it. So Acraig (or whoever) moved the forums. This was just bad timing, and your own luck.

The combat system being boring is the least of considerations with combat. The monsters are just placeholders for now. Everything you mentioned is on the plans, but have not been implemented yet.

Quest system is what it is. If you had looked at the project history you would have seen that they are currently implementing some sort of popup window for the quests. Actually, the quests never bothered me all that much, but I am old school and don't mind working for things in a game.

If your name was changed, it violated the naming policy. What was the name? They are under no responsibility to inform you that your name has been changed. Don't confuse a bunch of volunteers with a real business. PlaneShift is a hobby project, they are not going to jump through hoops here.

Did I sound like I disagreed with you? Sorry. I don't. I just disagree with the premise of the post. The game is certainly ready to be tested and there are plenty of features that are working in it. A lot of people have fun with this game the way it is, and the project itself is damn nice for what it is.

That being said, if your expectations of online games are based upon experience with finished commercial projects like World of Warcraft, then go to Shaiya or something because PlaneShift is only going to piss you off.

Make sure you familiarize yourself with the PS universe before attempting any RP in game. Unfortunately, RP in PS becomes a game of avoiding tedious arguments about RP. It also helps if you RP a lot of ass kissing.

Game mechanics are not treated professionally. GM team has issues with professionalism and nepotism. The dev team in my experience is sincere individuals who are doing this in good faith, but they get undermined by certain GMs and the extended community of PS provincials. Way, way, overdue for a wipe of stats, skills and inventories. Guild houses need to be revoked and the slate needs to be wiped fresh.

Hiraghm is right, you get what you pay for.

Using RP as an excuse to increase permanent skills is facile at best. It is time to revoke guid houses and wipe stats, skills, inventories and put all characters back to their starting points. It has been time since the sack duplication bug of a couple of years ago was finally fixed. PS cannot seem to rid itself of the issues of nepotism, and other vagarities that seem to haunt it. Before you attack me on my post, consider why these sorts of objections happen again and a again. Hint: It is not the same people posting all over the net.

Since I created this thread, Kerol has posted for considered feedback from the community regarding the game. If you love PlaneShift, please take the time to read his post and send intelligent feedback.
