And yet the game garners a 6/10, which is 'acceptable'.  If the reviewer finds that the game was not enjoyable in any way, that does not seem acceptable at all.  I think there was a disconnect between the rating and what the reviewer said.

Bums on seats !!!! One must think of 'bums on seats' !!!!!

When the overall player rating is 6.7 one can't afford to go against the public opinion.

I read the review and i overall agree with it,even though you do have a point there if anyone tries to translate the words of the review into numbers they definitely don't translate into a "6".

Maybe he is  not thinkin gof himself, and realize that some people may like it, and the people it caters to will like it, I mean he did put I and not Everyone when he said he could not find it enjoyable way, Maybe its because hes used to having his hand held and quests telling him what to do when and how many times.

Dfo just gives you the tools, you choose from there, It is not a complete sandbox game when it comes to all elements of a MMORPG but it is truly a sandbox. It needs more content/features and a few fixes and I will say it will be up with EVE. Might be a while before a lot of stuff gets added in, they are a indie company afterall.

Now first things first, I do macro, But I work and goto school, and for the people who have no job/school or have only 1 of those, the only way to keep up is to macro, I only do self buffs and running into walls for attribute at nights.

Why I will never play Darkfall Online.

You probably weren't h4rdc0r3 enough anyways

So, I have been working for this day since launch, at a casual "I will get there, when I get there" mindset.  Now I have 50 Greater Magic.

Now the grind begins, just like any other game.  Unlike other games I can kill the people who are well ahead of me, if they suck (or macro instead of play).

  1. Congrats - it's great to reach a goal that you've been working towards
  2. How do you define "grind".  It seems to me that you've been grinding up your magic skills to reach that goal?  So, what do you mean by "Now the grind begins."?

~Ripper

I said grind to be sarcastic.  Everything is moving smoothly but is much slower than UO or Shadowbane progressed.  I am in more of a money grind now since I ran out trying to hit 50 GM.

Once again, someone gets flamed for telling others their opinion.

Its called ffa forum pvp and if you want something a little less hardcore then you might want to consider df.

Aye, a ffa forum full loot pvp where all one's pride, credibility and h4rdc0rn3ss are looted every time one gets ganked

Now that is hardcore............

What did you get this time from wyrd cyborg?

Well if you want every archery, melee, magic school maxed out like me then it would not be good for a casual player. It takes 3 months for a normal player to get lvl 100 fire magic.

With macros or without?

"Sure, you need to hit people to increase your weapon/magic skills, but this is where the wonder of afking comes in.

Many clans seem to have a spot in their cities where members not currently playing sit down or are AFKing something, like running in circles, resting, or even jumping. Such wonderful places are called "bloodwalls," due to the amount of blood all over them. These people make sure to take off all of their armor, for they become live target practice while they're AFK. Other players just sit there with weapons and staves, shooting/slashing the crap out of these AFK players (but never killing them, that would be counterproductive.) Sometimes, you even have AFK on AFK action as weapon-wielding players set up a macro to slowly keep hitting someone else AFKing."

So much for AV's anti-macro / cheat meassures

My favorite comment to the first article:

"I don't consider the idea of fighting your guild mates to level skills to be exploitable. If you want to learn Judo, you don't go running out and start attacking people at the bus stop. You get together with like minded individuals and practice on each other. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me."

I love when people think its an exploit. Another pathetic attempt at criticising a game they know nothing about.

Using the same example.. Are you afk when practicing Judo with someone? No.. I didnt think so. Move along blind DF fanboy.

Sure thing. Will do, Mr. Troll

You know, he did have a valid point, which you conveniently ignored.

CAUTION:  Using logic on fanboy may cause a quantum singularity.

Tsaos was right to question the legitimacy of their so-called re-review. Eurogamer was in the position of not being able to admit they fucked up royally the first time, but also not being able to let the original stand because it was so blatantly shoddy. They can't allow the rereview to be even a 6/10, because admiting that much would put egg all over their face. A 4/10 lets them admit that they didn't do proper justice to the first review without having to admit that the first one was too far off base.

Proof?

Well they have the logs as "proof". So the only thing you have to do now is jump on a plane fly down to Athens and they'll show them to you...............hopefully

No my friend, I work in systems design for 2 decades, I work on security for banks and online transactions.  You cannot trust a log unless you have control over the system and the journaling tool that writes the log, unless you control access to the tool, to the log.  A log is just a text, anyone can alter it, unless you control all the anyones.

That is why the final security is in a physical lock.  Lock the whole damn access console in a room, with an armed guard, a security videocam that is constantly recording offsite, and a digital record of all physical access, immediately logged offsite, so no one can easily alter it all and leave no trace.

Tasos?  He smells like a crook, talks like one and behaves like one.  His journals?  His logs? .... you finish the sentence.

And that's why i have the the word proof  within "__"

Because it's really no proof at all

I'm sick of these games where you need to grind to skill/level up.

Then you'll hate Darkfall

Then he'll hate any MMORPG... except eve... no real grind there.

Awwww, and here i thought that Darkfall would be different , a "sandbox" game ,unique, one-of-a-kind not like all those other level based games that you have to grind or afk macro constantly in order to get to high levels and enjoy the full game experience that the game has to offer.

Well ooops, my bad.........

So , in journalism it is allowed to state wrong things as fact ?

Your flaw is that you consider (still) a reviewer being a journalist , even though there is a subtle but very clear difference between the 2 professions

A review is a report in the media in which someone gives an opinion (the reviewer) on something such as a new book or film (or a video game in our case)

Journalism is the job of collecting news and writing about it for newspapers, magazines, television or radio (the journalist).

A reviewer is as biased as the next person that comes along and gives his opinion on the matter at hand and that is because what he does is that he just gives his opinion on that matter (and that goes for all reviewers Darth not just the ones you don't like).

A journalist on the other hand has a job of collecting news from around the world and writing about them just as they hear it without giving their opinion and without having any bias ( well at least that's how they ought to do it )

I will be forming an anti-guild and coalition. We will raid and destroy afk macroers. Will hunt down and kill the red tagged gankers.

No you won't.....................

Not unless Darkfall devs have implemented nuclear weaponry

Good? That's how my screen looked the last time my gfx card overheated

Looks pretty polished, too.

During the past days world is very vivid, maybe because of the expansion, maybe because of the card shuffling  politically wise , donno, but there are plenty of toons around.

Nice and professional. even has a "buy now" button.  'bout time.

~Ripper

..........and it only took them about 5 months to do so

yeah damn them, focusing all their resources on making the game as good as they can before switching to focus on fluff like the forums and the website... damn them!

and all this time i thought you didn't have any sarcasm................

oh no wait,  you actually meant what you said?

I don't play Darkfall...probably never will because it's just not my type of game.

However, I whole-heartedly support what Adventurine attempts to do. They are a small, independant game developer trying to make an MMO outside of the big studio, big bucks system.

So yeah, go ahead and cancel your subs -- and give more power to the SOEs and the EAs and the Blizzards who already dominate the market. But I don't want to see you back here bitching about the lack of independant, creative, innovative games in the market place.   Because if you don't support your independant gaming companies (and manage your expectations accordingly in a mature way), then you'll get exactly what you pay for -- more vanilla, generic, uninspired gaming.

Ah yes because it's well known that in this world there are only 2 types of companies: The big greedy multi-million corporation that only want to take your money away not caring about you and everyone should shun them (the "bad" guys) and the small struggling underdog company that isn't in it for the money but for kicks of it and everyone should support them no matter what because they are the "good" guys and since AV is a small company they must be the "good" guys and not some money grabbing scums..........riiiiiiiiiiiight

Word to the wise : Don't believe everything the movies tell you , movies are not real
