Bored of your MMO? Play Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.
LFGame « General Discussion 10/20/09 3:23:43 PM
Vanguard.. . Great PVE. . . Great Crafting. . . currently ran by SoE. no thankyou.
I felt the stir of wantin to resub to Vanguard. started at 7am this morning and started to download the isle of dawn(was gonna make a whole new char and stuff) well when the download started, said estimated time of download was 6 bloody hours(btw i'm on cable internet) contacted SoE, and they stated that it was because of my ports and stuff in my router. So i contacted my router rep and spent an hour gettin my Router Just like SoE wanted. Guess what. NO CHANGES. So i contacted SoE again and they wanted me to send them system files and stuff. I guess I should mention that this happened previously with EQ2. well long story short I'm chatting with a TSR for SoE around 2:45 pm told her to pls refund my money cause I was dumb to think SoE was gonna do anything right when it came to gaming. Who knows mayby you all can download the game super fast. but it seems when i tried to download SoE games(SWG, EQ2, Vanguard) i have to spend 2+ days with the comp running day and night just to getthe full games downloaded. I mean Turbine fixed that problem(you can download LOTR or D&DO and play the newbie area while the full content downloads)
bottom Line Vanguard is a Great game, it just needs 2 things. a population and a Compitnt Gaming studio. |

Well I got that itch again.
Lookin for a fantasy MMO. A good crafting system.(something that is not a money sink and doesn't cost a arm and a leg to do moderate good stuff) pvp that's not a gankfest. A gankfest to me is pvp between players where thier level range is 30+ level diff.(like a lvl 50 hangin around in lvl 20 land killin all the lvl 20's cause it's so bloody easy. Seriously, EQ2 has inho the best non gankfest pvp style out there, too bad the peeps at SoE make you do the Bloody quests in order to get AA. . in fact lets not talk about EQ2 please) good character customization(not su much cosmetic, but stat/skill wise) Has to have a FREE trial.
Pls don't suggest Eve, WoW, EQ2(pretty much lets not talk about SoE in general)
well thanx for any info your able to give. it's kinda specific so whio knows.
thanx

So you can get AA xp from combat xp now?

on PvE servers, though the AA is nice, is it really neccessary to make sure your AA is maxxed for each level? on PVP servers, almost everybody that's still playing has an 80, so the low lvl PvP'rs you see out there are gonna be twinked(And guess how the most of that twinkage is going to come from. . . AA) For new players and players who wanna have thier AA maxxed with level(3 aa per 1 lvl) doing the slider is not gonna help. your still not be able to maxx out your AA per lvl with only fighting mobs, your still gonna have to do quests in order to keep it Maxxed. I played EQ2, and I Bloody Hated the Quests. liked the pvp, and liked how the game ran, but after i got my first two char's maxxed AA for thier lvl, running the same quests over and over again is a pain |
|
|
Hold up. Like you guys I too was looking forward to this. but the slider only goes to 50% and considering you get 3 AA points for every level, you are Still going to have to quest in order to keep your AA maxxed per lvl(a Must for PvP servers)
i resubbed and was Totally Pissed when they only went half way.
let the buyer beware |

I come from SWG pre NGE, so I'm not NEARLY as forgiving of SOE as you appear to be. well m8, my feelings for SoE couldn't sink any lower now. they Screwed up with the last patch, it's not pretty. in the feedback section for the latest patch, there was 9 pages of Peeps Screaming for the heads and hides of the people responsible. i do believe i was 2 posts in that thread post that wasn't calling for the outright slaughter of SoE.
lil taste? (you will especially know how this feels) they changed the character racial perks around. and as of yet will not allow the existing characters to re spek thier race of thier char. Gotta love it when your guild's main tank now has racial perks that a mage would kill for. Thankyou SoE for totally destroying the sliver of dead skin of trust I had for you. |

EQ2 is a descent game, but like all os SoE's children. it too shall pass. if you like questin and descent PvP(not some 70 sittin in ashenvale killen noobs all day long) you may like Eq2 if your just startin out, you'll most likely like EQ2. if you plan to say for a while, you'll loathe and Detest SoE my oppinion. (want proof? SoE, on the last game update patch, changed the racial perks around. but they, as of yet, will not let players change thier existing character's race to a better suited class/role. Just imagine your guild's Main tank now has racial perks that a Mage would kill for. Thankyou SoE) |

yes it's true SoE did release the slider(like in eq1)
problem is it only goes to 50% and since you occur 3 AA points for every 2 levels, hardly anybody will use it. your lvl locked PvPr's won't bother as it will lvl your char b4 you maxxed AA for that lvl. your Peeps who are rushing to max lvl won't bother cause they will get 100% conversion after they hit maxx lvl, and considerin your earning AA that's like lvl 30 from killin lvl 80 monsters, the AA skyrockets.
So once again SoE dropps the ball on it. But
That's the least of the problems with the new update(well it's the most for me as i was gonna start a new char) SoE in thier infinate Wisdom has descided to change the racial perks of the existing classes. and they haven't yet to allow existing characters to change thier Race. Gotta love when your Guild's main tank now has racial perks that a Mage would kill for. LOL
Thanks again SoE |

DDO is F2P. you have to get certain rewards to raise your level cap, but they can be gained by gaming, don't have to buy it at the store.
Dual wield is nice in DDO but DDO is not your average MMO. no manna/health regen unless you hit a shrine(recharges 15 min for avg quest diff, for hard and elite, once per quest) no open area per say(wanna do mindless hack and slash? not really here, they have kinda open areas, but it's ran just like the normal quests(u only get xp via completing quest objectives) Game is 100% quest based. If you ever played Pen and Paper AD&D then this is what DDO is. some peeps love it, others hate it. PvP - haven't seen it, heard it's kinda like arenea-ish, no idea mainly DDO is PvE it's free, so you can't reallg go wrong wit that |

Stay away from EQ2 with the new patch they totally Muffed things up. lil taste? they descided to change the racial perks around, but they, as of yet, haven't givin the option for players to change thier race of thier existing characters. so you can imagine the bloody Hell being screamed at on the forums. the feedback thread for this latest patch is 9 pages long, and i believe i have seen 2(yea, that's right) 2 posts that wasn't calling for the Heads of SoE in one fashion or another.
on a personal note they said they were gonna add a slider bar for combat/AA conversion exp. they made the bar only to go 50% and since you get 3 points AA for every 2 levels most peeps won't bother with it.
if your gonna start from scratch? nagafin server, and goodluck. though i give you 2-3 months b4 you too will be calling for heads and hides

Eve is a good choice, but you'll take a bit to get up to speed(well of course it depends on what ur looking for, if you expect to go out and 1 vs 1 other hunter/ganker/prat. got news for ya, Not Gonna Happen, if you wanna have a gankfest with 5 of your "closest" friends of the hour. man your be able to do that in minutes, well sorta) word of advise, skills are timebased and the Learning curve is STEEP. |

Greets
i had just resubbed(for a bloody day) back to EQ2 Well if you know anything bout SoE is that you really can't trust/expect em to do right. but hey that's my oppinion.
what i'm lookin for- the kinda game i'm lookin for is medevil rpg MMO. something that has a Free trial and pvp. something with MEANINGFUL crafting and Good even PvP,not Gankfest(wow i'm 80, guess i'll go hang out in the 20's area and slaughter me some noobs) PvP. a lot of detail in character creation(not really cosmetic, but stat and skill wise and effects etc) now i'm gonna list the games i played and what i liked and not liked EQ2 - liked just bout everything in this game. Especially liked that most areas have pvp lvl restrictions(ie in certain areas it was a 4 lvl rectriction, so if your lvl 15, a lvl 19 and lower could only attack you) EQ2 had meaningful crafting and it was a descent MMO. But the AA system(way to further tweak ur char) only allowed you to accumalate points by doing quests, killing special mobs etc etc etc. the AA points were essential if you were gonna stand a chance in PvP. well Doing the same quests(and you had to do a BLOODY HELL LOT OF EM) over and over again for each of your chars got Old Real quick. so i went to other pastures. Well SOE said that they would install a combat exp transfer slider in the gu53 patch(hence all the xp you accumalate by just doing mindless hack and slash gainst normal mobs would go towards AA points) What SOE Failed to mention was the slider only went to 50%. nobody will use that since it'll gimp you anyways(you get 3 AA points allowable for every 2 levels) also SoE in gu53 changed all the races racial stats and is not allowing for a race respec(so imagine ur Raid tank now has racials that are only good for a wizard) THANKYOU SoE WoW - liked the interface and ease of play of the game, liked the way you always got a point for your tree for every level. Hated the Gankfest of PvP. hated that crafting was a moneysink. Hated that nobody really cared bout the BG's and played like a freaking 2 yr old(mind you this was based on burning crusade) AoC - couldn't get the free trial to work and spent over 36 straight hours Downloading it(my comp was top of the line last feburary, quad core, 1 gig vid card, 8 gig of Ram, could play Eq2 on realistic and had no probs and i'm on Cable internet) Rubies of Eventide - didn't like the GMs in there. actually did a post bout my thoughts of the game. game, from what i saw of it, had potential, but that's bout it Vanguard - liked a lot of stuff bout it, just didn't see all that much PvP and not a lot of players DDO - currently playing that for giggles. good game but i don't like the resting only at shrine(health and manna doesn't automatically regen) and how everything just feels ur going from one quest to the other. don't even know if there is PvP or crafting, haveonly been playing for like 2 weeks
yea, i know it's a tall order, but hopefully some of you peeps out there have come across a game i may like.
I'm hoping that the BigWigs at SoE will get thier heads outta the ground and fix the crap on EQ2. but we're talkin bout SoE here folks.
Thanx for the replies and info Folks.

well i resubbed and started playin. So for it looks like you are only able to put up to HALF of your xp into AA. I hope this isn't the case. i made a post on EQ2 forums, mayby i have to unlock something. If this was the case, i really Really wished they would had said that in the update notes :(
but we'll know soon enough peeps.

thanx peeps |

depends on ur playstyle and wether ur in a pvp server or not
my advise if your into pvp, Get you AA (aa level is 1.5 for every player level so at lvl 10 you can have 15 AA)
take a read of the classes and you'll be able to pick a char suited for your playstyle |
|
|
depends on what ur looking for. I'm waiting to see if they install that AA slider like they were talkin bout in an up coming update.
if your looking for PvP: EQ2 has it. they have areas that are goodguy controlled and badguy controlled. and they have lvl range PvP(ie in certain areas only peeps with a 4 lvl difference can attack you, so if your 14, a lvl 18 and below can try to jump ya)
if your looking for PvE: EQ2 has TONS OF BLOODY FREAKING QUESTS(can ya tell i'm not much of a questin kinda a guy lol) they also have dungeons and raids etc etc etc
if your lookin for Crafting: EQ2 has a simple crafting setup, but the crafted items are in demand and are Very well done(it's not a money sink.) plus you can do quests in crafting(called writs, make x # of swords and you have X time to do it in etc)
if ya lookin for a new MMO, give it a try. I know it's produced by SOE, but don't let that stop ya. i'm slowly rethinking my position about SOE(it wasn't nice at first, i came from EQ1) |
