ryzom does have some population and it's crafting heavy.

EQ2 sorry it didn't work for you cause the crafting means something in there and there is pvp on the pvp server

i tried fallenearth(release key) but found it Way too laggy(hopefully they fixed)

DDO i do not know if it has crafting but you will find peeps to group with.

srry i couldn'tbe more helpful.

wow, seems like you hit what everybody else hit. . . the wall

there are servers out there that offer SWG with the pre NGE gameset. .  . but i believe they are illegal, dunno

Vanguards main fall is lack of population and it being bought by SOE

Go back to EQ2 until something else comes along.  I would be there if they made the AA conversion exp bar 100% for PvP server.

Goodluck in your search

u might try Ryzom.  but it's mainly Pve and crafting in the early levels and does have PvP but that's kinda end game content.

u may wanna go back to WoW and play on a high population server.  mayby

u might take a look at some of the wow clones out there. new world international and runes of magic i believe

Goodluck in yo' struggles m8

unfourtantly m8, crafting players and pvp players don't go all that much hand in hand.

from the loof of your list you basically played the gambit of crafting games :(

best advise: just download like 5 free trials that hint at crafting and try em out.  Then let us know what you think.

best crafting game overall i think is EQ2.  but I hate sony and all it's evil minions.  So i'm in mmo limbo playing 1602 for giggles till i see STO comes out.

who knows, mayby tell us what you liked and didn't like and we could help more?

sorry m8

ok folks.

yesterday downloaded the game after purchasing it(round 17 bucks).  the download had one mess up but only took 2 and a half hours.  i read about how character creation was and developed my character accordingly.  at this point i feel i should say something about the graphics so far.  really reminds me of the old windows 3.1 to even cammadore 64 days.  but a true MMo'r doesn't base a game soly on graphics.

Anyhoo got into the game and here my character is standing in front of some field and what looks to be outside of a town and i am in boxer shorts, and nothing else.  the landscape and overall realm is 3d, but the controls are Real Buggy and "ancient".  But i was lucky to have another player take me under his wing and show me the beginning quest line.  This character "Cararacturus" was very helpful on telling me the keyboard commands and what not.  This game is Not windows friendly(IE point and click) you have to know the keyboard commands also while i was doing my missions there were many times the game glitched on me and whatnot, one of the strangest things to see your char fall like 15 feet all of a sudden and to stop walking, but your feet and hands continue onward, or another part of your body.  So anyhoo I do like 3 "deliver the scroll to this guy" missions in which case i get some shoes, a slaves little toga and a jar in order to carry water.

Here where the game nosedives on the 4th mission i gotta make a woodpile.  doesn't sound hard, does it.  Basically you go to where there is a wooded area(bout a 5 minute walk from starting point) and then you begin to gather up firewood, now the gathering up part isn't so Hard(just hit F6 and watch your staminia not drop totally) the next part SUCKS!  you have to place each inventory slot of firewood or stick into the firewood, the process takes roughly 20+ seconds.  you have to repeat this process 125 times.  so take 20 seconds and times it by 125. . . OUCH  here is the actual excerpt from the Romawiki: To complete a firewood pile, you will need to add 125 pieces of firewood. Type /project while in the construction site to find out how much more firewood is left until you can finish the project. When you have 100% of the required firewood added, type /projectfinish. If you hurry with the gathering and adding building at the edge of the forest, you will be able to finish in 40 minutes.

don't believe me?    www.roma-victor.com/community/live/wiki/index.php/AttendingTasks

now, we all have done quests that take a while, but this was Matononous and Mind numbing.  i had to wait 20+ seconds in order to add another stick of firewood to the pile, your average inventory has over 35 inventory slots.  so it's not like your running back and fourth, your sittin in your chair and clicking 2 things every 20+seconds and nothing else.

About this time I was gettin very turned off by this.  I asked my mentor friend Cararacturus if this was the longest part of the begginer quests, he then pointed me to the wiki.  i am now going to post another excerpt from the Wiki, and after i read this I was ready to quit.  it goes: Make a Clay pile:  Find clay. Go back to the river where you filled your amphora. You can gather clay by using /gather (F6). Get a player to teach you pottery first. This will take about 3 hours if you make it from scratch with 0 foraging and the projectsite just by the side of the riverbed.

3 Hours!!! Are you kidding me.  At this time I asked my mentor frined to talk to me about the usual operation on how the game is played.  He said most things in game take a bit.  I asked him, lets say i have the approiate skills and i have the Ore in my inventory and other materials i need in order to make an average longsword, how long would it take me to make one from start to finish.  He thought about it a moment and said he wasn't a blacksmith but he had some frineds who are, and for them to make an average sword from start to finish(provided they have all the materials, and all the blacksmithing equipment is with them in that area) would take over 3 hours.  At this point i apologized to him and then logged off the game.

My conclusion:

poor graphics.  poor UI.  Low server population.  Basic materials and crafting takes an Unheard of amount of time.

At this point it's not worth it.  I would suggest finding something else.

But then again I oly played on this game for 2 and a half hours(and most of that was making a bloody Woodpile)

Hope you liked my review.

Any questions or anything?  pls reply.

I'm goinna hate myself in the morning for posting this.

Everquest 2 - it's kinda like wow, has world pvp, kinda reminded me of wow(burning crusade) and the crafting there means something.  Here are the CONS: game is ran by SOE.  if you want to do pvp, you are going to have to do a TON OF BLOODY QUESTS.  I cannot stress this enough.  for in pvp servers those who are profficient in pvp will have thier AA maxxed out for thier level(and AA leves 1.5 or every level after level 10 you can spend 3 points of AA so at level 20 you can spend 30 points of AA).  now in order to get your AA maxxed out early on(so you can be PVP preffecient as you quest in EQ2) your going to have to do ever starting area's quests out there.(we're talking about, i believe over a hundred quests give or take 20).  now you do this by turning off your combat experience and quest experience, so your char will not level but you will gain AA exp(you get AA exp from killing named mobs, completing quests, and finding ne areas)  I could go on but i think you got the gist of it.  If you LOVE Quests, then EQ2 is for you.

I also heard perfect world international is kinda like WoW.  as well as runes of magic, but i cannot vouch for these two games.

EVE Online - the best 'crafting' system ever created.

Real time skill training is good since it promotes player skills.

Nerfed e-war? 'calli'?

yea eve is descent.  player skills though?  don't get that.  The expansion after cold war(you know the one where they nerfed missles) well I admit before calli Ewar was overpowered, but after Calli. . . kinda remindes me what they did to beastmaster hunters in wow rescently.  but then again. . .

Ryzom sounds descent.  i just may have to take another look at her again.  don't know, i remember i liked the game at first but can't remember why i left.

and wyrum, i'll take a look at it,  but who knows mayby rzom again.

If you want crafting, go for Fallen Eartth. 95% of world items are crafted.

/R.

check out my last paragraph mate.

I been here before but i'm hoping you all found something i haven't yet

Looking for a fantasy MMo that has a free trial.

Crafting that means something(stuff you make is on par or better than quest rewards)

PvP like EQ2(they have lvl restrictions when you first start out, and the level restrictions become more lax the higher zones you go into)

a game that has a community(not a dead game)

Not a brand new mmo(not gonna pay 50$ so i can have Tons of lag, Server restarts and rollbacks)

Games I have tried and reasons i left

Jumgate - at the time i was on dial up and just couldn't compete in this twitched based space simm mmo(this was back in 2000)

Everquest(dungeons of norrath) - hellish grind, crafting moneysink, you couldn't mine ore, u had to kill in oreder to craft(my first experience with SOE, i was warned by all my gamer friends that I would end up hating and loathing SOE)

SWG(never played before NGE) - didn't like the plot,  my quests were really basic, and since i wanted to play a jedi(a good one) working for a hut just wasn't my cup of tea.(not to mention it took me 4 days to get the downloads, and it didn't come from SOE, had to get it from File planet, guess u an say SWG had 2 strikes against it already)

Vanguard - LOVED the Crafting in here, but the PvP server seemed like a bloody ghost town, and the Pve wasn't much better(on top of that had mondo problems with downloading the game, as well as glitches and bugs)

Everquest 2 - Loved the game except to be proffecient on a pvp server you had to max out your AA, and in order to do that, you had to do almost Every Bloody Quest out there, and that became an even worst grind than Everquest.  They installed a general exp conversion to AA slider but it only goes to 50% on the PvP servers(this was the nail in the coffin for me on why I Hate and Loathe SOE)

Eve online - just didn't like the skill being time-based.  and when calli came out and they totally Nerfed Ewar, that was it for me.

Vendetta online - a space sim with no shields just wasn't right for me.

WoW(burning crusade) - Good game, changed everything i thought about Fantasy mmo's, didn't like the pvp(yea i can beat up a 5 yr old, but why.  to me same rules apply to WoW.  yea my 70 can hang out in ashenvale and kill everything there, but why)

LOTRO - crafting, to me, seems a lil long winded, i mean i would be out by Combe lookin all over for tin deposits, Ouch.  Plus it's primarally PVE, with, once again my oppinion, the PvP reminding me of WoW's Battlegrounds

DDO - don'ty know much bout the crafting, felt like it was only quest based, mayby if they combined lotro and ddo together and then have a good player base and a bad player base. . .  i'm asking too much.

Ultima online(started playing in 2009) - just started playing this, Love the crafting, but i believe this population is smaller than Vanguard.  don't know much about this game to actually say anything else.

Well hope that helps.  to be honest i tried the "free trial" from Fallen Earth(yea i went back on my idea bout new games) and all i see is way to much server downtimes and Lagg (sundays is a black day for this game. . . )

Thankyou for your replies.

Have ya tried DDO

that game is all bout quests, and it's fairly easy to get high level, and it is truly FTP

i dunno my 0.02$ worth.

Knights of Dream City has "colonies" you can tax but no housing. Good crafting though.

RealmLords is going to have player housing soon.

Earth Eternal is going to have completely customizable "groves" which are player housing with completely terraformable yards and everything.

Ultima Online?

Roma Victor?

tried to get a subscription and it denighed me.  i have a feeling it is because they want to know when the card was issued.  dunno, if you played this game send me a pm if you know how to get around that.  no biggie really, currently playing UO.  man is that an old game, but it's still nice :)  though i thought it was a 3d, not a 2d game.

trolling the LFGame forums and someone said that RoE finally bit it?

try to go to the main site and my PCcillin stops it and labels it a virus security threat.  so. . .

has the game finally bit the dust?

I'm tryin not to be biased here, just want to know if the game finally died(and no i shall not gloat, death is never a gloating matter)

RoE shut down?  welll what can ya say

istaria has a free option(only can play as human) and they have a descent crafting system

Ok here it comes.  I have the trial key.  IF i descide to buy this game, will i have to still go out and buy the box or am i able to buy it eletronically?

now here is my experience so far.

Last saturday - got trial key and began to download the game. . . . ok no i'm not cause the website isn't working.

next day - got an email from the folks at FE and now website is a Go.  Begin to download and install the game. . . ok, once again no i'm not.  seems the game wants to become unresponsive like every 10 minutes or so

Monday - got another email from the folks at FE saying to "tune my ports" of my router.  did that and about 2 hours later I'm actually seeing the updats not saying 2days but more like 5 hours.

Monday(roughly 6 hours later) Game is downloaded, installed, and updated YAY!!! start the game. . . .ok, the server is down for maintance.

Monday(roughly an hour after first maintance) - got back on Comp and started game. . . SWEET! i'm in.  Char creation and i'm into the tutorial. . . no i'm not cause server has to shut down for bugs/fixes/ whatever

Monday(roughly an hour b4 i have to meet the wife in town) stopped tryin to play FE till i get back home with the wife.  log in to Ultima Online and do some mining and tinkering.

As you can see, i like the idea of the game, like how "gritty" the game looks, but a Ton of problems so far :(

yeppers gettin those "send to microsoft" errors on both ways now.  took a gander at the website and they're havin problems.  guess they weren't ready for the key flood?

who knows

well i have the key, now tryin to download.  and it's not going all that well.  this ain't lookin good

gettin those errors that wante you to send em to microsoft.  eegads

jumpgate is still active, but just barely.  Vendetta online is nice, if ya don't mind that this space sim has no shields. and freelancer discovery mod, i believe your gonna need the freelancer CD, on top of that those guys have modded just about Every aspect of the game except the fact there are a lot of rules that all mmo's take for granted that you cannot do on Freelancer(it was made as a single player game not a mmo)

there is also instantaction.com

i liked the ace of aces game.

EE Gads, sittin in PoK hawking my SoW's LOL

i know how you feel to a point.  I loved EQ2.  it had the PvP i loved and the Crafting I loved.  Hated the Fact SOE was it's company and the fact that you had to do Every Freaking Bloody Quest to get your AA maxxed out if you were on a pvp server(trust me if ya didn't you were sub par when it was time for PvP)  Plus since it's from SOE, you know they're gonna Burn thier player base one way or another. . . oh yea. . . they did.  first off in thier newest Game update, they changed all the racial trait abalities(so imagine your guilds main tank now has racial perks that a mage would kill for, LOL)  of course my info is dated so mayby SoE came to it's sences on that and gave em all a free race change, but knowing SoE they prolly didn't.

my suggestions?

Perfect world, http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/282/Perfect-World-International.html

and Ryzom, http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/36/Ryzom.html

PW reminded me of WoW, and Ryzom was nice and casual.

though it's been a While since i played em.

Goodluck m8, and if you find that MMO Gem out there let us know :)

(edit for speillinfg)

nevermind, researched it myself and found out monster play is the only pvp there is.(than brwn244 and pyrlix for the info as well as the others who was throwing the advise at me in game)

well i been playing LOTRO for the trial and here is my view on it.  hope you like.  if ya disagree please tell me why.

first off, love the way turbine lets you download a lil bit of the content and begin to play while the rest downloads.  The graphics and look of the game is nice.  would i compare it to EQ2 graphics on extreme? no, but the effects and "surrealness" was something i liked. the UI and the controls were also nice, the game could use a macro window like EQ2 but the ui and controls were easy enough to get used to.  The char. creation i wasn't really impressed with.  you have 4 races to choose from(man, hobbit, elve, and dwarves) and you could not assign any stat points.  the Gameplay was nice, liked the quest focus tracker(it had an arrow of showing you where to go to get to the next quest step[IE if you need to kill marsh Flys the tracker would lead you to the area of the flys])

now the things i didn't like which aren't a lot actually just 2 but these were, to me, major points for mmo's that i will sub to.

first off there isn't World PvP.  they have a thing called monster play where you can get access when one of your char's is lvl 10.  you can pick a lvl 60 monster(different types) and take on other players and stuff in like(for lack of a better word) WoW's Battlegrounds setting.  yep, two sides good guys and bad guys fight all over a battlefield, and like wow it's pretty confusing if you just go in there by yourself, but if you get in a group, you should do ok.  the Second thing is the Crafting.  now i don't have much exp on this because of me only playing while my free trial held out.  but i wasn't impressed or rather liked it.  you have to hunt for the rescources, granted for weaponsmith and others who prospect ore you get a ore radar, but overall your running over hell and highwater to find the ore deposits.  and the weapons you can craft are on par or a lil better(depends on which you make) with the quest rewards.

Overall, if you don't like PvP, and your 50/50 on crafting, LOTRO is the game for you.  there is a 10 day free trial so either way you should try it out for yourself if you got the time.

tryin to see how the pvp works in lotro

some say it's basically like the bg's in wow(monster play), other say there is actual world pvp.  I don't see how since there is no bad side one can play and level up from scratch.

thanx for the replies
