What I've always wanted to know was why people think Pvp NEEDS to be balanced.

I mean really why nerf an archer so he and a melee fighter are balanced?  Wouldn't it make more sense to leave them be and make a player learn how to play his character?

Ok give the magic user a big whompin' spell but have the cool down longer.  If he toasts the target the first shot, ok fine.  If not some hairly barbarian is going to run up and shove a sword up the guys .... nose.

The whole balanced thing has always seemed to me to be the perfect example of dumbing down a game.

I was always under the impression that the Emp's look had more to do with the Lightening Damage from the big fight, and Vadar looked that way because of the lava and living inside his armor all the time, (just like cave fish) buy a sunlamp for crying out loud!.

Only thing I ever brought away from any of the books etc... was their (Sith) eyes took on an orange color.

This won't be a feature I'm a fan of.

Got one better than that.  Just got an e-mail saying my login e-mail had been changed to a hotmail account ftom my work addy.  Like I play at work the idiots.

I'd love to see their faces when they figure out I've never ever had a Blizzard account.  :)

Don't think so, but if you go to a tavern that has a barbers pole in it you can change it there.

While the mammoth is nice it's not usable until lvl 40, the better part of that deal is the extra inventory bag that's usable right from the get go.  Stock inventory space is tiny and the bag really helps out.  There's a ring you get too that's OK I guess, never did really figure that one out.

Things to NOT look for (which I think are in the collectors box) a drinking cape (they never did put drunken bar fights into the game) and something else that's slipped my mind right now.

All the boxes will take you from Tortage up to the max level so don't worry about different boxes having different zones in them.  The only expansion has been Godslayer.  It opens up another 20-40 (post Tortage) zone and new race (asian) plus the high end stuff.  Unless you really really have to run one of the new races guys, you can hold off on it.

It's a big download no matter what so go ahead and setup an account name and password and start the forever free up to lvl 20(really 24/25) now.  Then when you get your box you can just apply the code in it to that account.  You'll get your 30 day paid time so you can venture off the starter island (Tortage) and start leveling.

For levels 1 - 20 on Tortage, doesn't really matter if you're on a PvE or Pvp server as it's all the same (they pulled Pvp from the island).  It's only post-Tortage now for Pvp.  My oldest went with Cim (Pvp) and said it wasn't as bad as he thought it would be.  Could have changed now that the lvl 20 Pvp packs had to move off Tortage, but most players are out in Godslayer land so maybe not.

Personally I play on a PvE server.

The game really is a PvE game (which it does well) with just a little Pvp tossed in.  So far all the love's been tossed PvE way with just crumbs going to the Pvp side.

If I were you, I wouldn't resub.

I would download the game, play for free and if it feels right "then" resub.

You cant get into moria though correct? Cause thats where I left off.

I'm pretty sure what Sovrath meant was;  Just DL the game and log in using your old account name and password, you'll find your Moria toon still there waiting for you.  Since you bought MoM expansion back whenever, you'll have access to all the quests etc.... in that zone for your high lvl toon or even for any new one's you make.

As a non-subing player you won't be free, since you used to pay, you'll be a premium player with some better perks so there's no reason to start up a whole new account.

Hello all.

Thinking of coming back but a have a question.I left before it went F2P and was in Moria at that time. I have both the Xpacs.

The question I have is how much did F2P effect the higher levels. IMO F2P game bring in a different type of crowd. People who really dont have the seriousness and just want to play it because its free. LOTRO is a game were being involved is a must. I am sure some people will disagree with me and really thats what I want to hear. I want to hear that nothing has changed and its still a great game.

Also a lot of those F2p players are former subscribers (like me) that just don't play enough to run a monthly sub.

More importantly, if you're questing in Moria anyone (well 99.99999%) are going to be paying players.  The only totally free zones are EL, Shire, Bree and now LL.  All the rest have to be 'bought / unlocked' one way or another.

Things have changed most for the better, some not.  As far as the idiots, I kept GLFF off when it was a sub only game so they'll always be those that don't take the game serious (to your degree).

This action just further promotes the fact that Craig "PvE First" Morrison is complete rubbish and has no clue at all what it means to be in CONAN GAME.

You do understand that the Conan books by REH are nothing like the world Pvp set up in AoC right?  Way too many examples of Conan talking first (or only for that matter).  You won't really find too many examples of Conan or anyone else just walking down the street randomly hacking people up.

That said, I too think removing vice fixing the WS and UH Pvp on Tortage was not the way to go.

But no MMO has ever done what Blizzard just did.

Not sure that's totally true.  DDO did a live player event (2? 3? years ago) that ended with the Marketplace (part of a zone) being destroyed which did change NPC locations etc.... and gave the game area a new look until they finally 'rebuilt' it this year.

Not up on all the WoW zones but was under the impression they only blasted part of them.  I'll give you it is a big change.  Good for them at finding an interesting way to revamp zones and keep it interesting.

I guess that galaxy wasn't so far away after all.

While I like welcome back weekends and might give this one a shot, this give away just seems so very wrong.  What's next '50's car's for ground transportation? ....... Well actually that sounds pretty cool.

It just seems like they're really starting to reach.  Sad really.

Join a Society and have a level 50 player power level you to level 50 within a week.

Well with that concept why not just have new players start at lvl 50 and save the weeks time?

There's a reason lvl's 1 - 49 exist and it would be nice if FLS figured out how to make them useful to the masses.

Low level Pvp area's were mentioned above and the best I've seen so far was DAoC's Pvp dungeons.  If you were over the lvl limit you couldn't get in.  Not that AoC's work particularly well, but even they have 2 lvl 1 - 25 Pvp area's.

I think of the game as 8 games in one because each class has its own story. I think thats great.

If you're into Alt's or want to play every class yes, but for those that don't .......

Think of all the fantasy players that don't play magic users or SWG types that refuse to play the Empire because the Rebel's are the good guys.  Personally I don't do magic and I don't do healers and in SWG I had no interest in the Spy class.

Those 8 stories just got cut way down.

I think the game may be interesting and might give it a try, but your item isn't ever going to be a pro for me.

Do you really think a Barbarian could stand against a skilled wizard at any time? That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight, except a wizard has powers even greater than a gun. In a hypothetical world of magic, magic would dominate the world (Just like technology dominates our world) and the Barbarians and retards would just be the laborers, not the heros.

  2. Make magic more complex, base it off the real traditions.

While I like your idea it seems that fantasy magic has clouded your judgement.  I'll hit on these 2  points to explain what I mean.

Historical magic involves rituals, gathering of power etc.....  these take time.  No carrying around spells in their heads  just planning, mumbling etc..... Unless your magic user knew in advance and had set up an ambush, Mr. Barb would have made sushi out of the guy, before he could even start to dig out his powered bat wings.

Yes in the overall scheme of things magic could dominate the world if one was a powerful enough user, but it would be more of the fixing the entire baseball season so your team would win (overall part), but not having the fine control over the individual game scores or results.

You can control the weather all you want, but it only takes 1 angry farmer to stick a pitchfork in your back to ruin your day.

I don't know if you've ever read it but there's a series about the Deryni by K. Kurtz.  Basically it's along the lines of what you're talking about.  If there's time magic is all good and fine, but when you don't have it, the sword works just as well.

Fighters are the standard sword and board types and Warden's also use shields.  If you're really into shields those are the 2 to look at.

While you can go back, certain area's are locked out to you.  Both my oldest and later on myself went back with level 30 - 40 toons and couldn't find alot we could do to help his younger brothers with since we couldn't go into the underhalls, ruins or white sands.

I'd say you could go to visit, but unless you're still under level 25+/- you won't be able to do anything but RP.

Since Turbine has taken two of it's three MMO's F2P (LoTRO and DDO) ... what do you think it means in terms of Turbine's commitment to each game?

Since changing the business model over for both of these, players have seen alot more updates, adv packs etc....  They seem to be making enough money off of them that they want to keep putting out new stuff.

Also how do you think Turbine views each game at this point in their respective life cycles?

Couple of cash cows.  The games lent themselves well to beening broken up into manageable (& sellable) chunks.  I think as long as they see the revenue come in, they'll do them darndest to keeping them up to date.

I've got a Warden and a Champion and have never had the problem you seem to have.

BTW the pot's are for correcting, not protecting so if you are posioned and don't want to wait for it to wear off, just toss a pot and it's gone.  I've played for hours and never even used a single one.

Really sounds like you're more used to getting multi row buff's.  While you can get a few in LotRO none are urber style.

If you have an account you can log in and get to all the forums.  If not there's a public one.

I thought the original company ran out of funding.

Later on they did, but Perp picked up Star Trek while GnH was in Beta and could only do 1 at a time so they went with the bigger title.

Boy did that turn out well for them :)
