They did not mention the how much you have to pay in order to transfer. But thinking about it, it will be probably close to the sum for starting. Otherwise Aventurine would lose money with people putting their subs on hold until transfers are available, not to mention to check how good that expansion is.

The sooner they realize making broad, vague comments about the future of the game is detrimental to it and to Aventurine themselves, the better.

It's always nice to see players agree with bait and switch practices.

Care to reply my post SEANMCAD? I just linked that Tasos post saying the ruleset is one character per server.

If your an american player, you don't have to buy the american version but others will have to.  You can just clone your character to the NA servers.  Can people read?

"Clarification: American players wanting to clone and transfer their characters do not have to buy another client. Everyone else needs to buy the American Darkfall client to play on the American server. The European rights and the American rights to Darkfall do not belong to the same company, therefore you cannot freely transfer between the two territories, as is the case with most MMORPGs. Our offer of character cloning / transfer to American players is because we had said that we would try to accommodate them should they want to start playing on the European server."

Did you read what you just posted? If you don't transfer, and pay the fee for it, you're buying the new client, either that or no american server for you. That's why people are pissed, they can't delete their EU-1 toons and start from zero. AV also used to have a "one character per server" policy, and this pisses the players even more. Now the FAQ was edited to "one character per account".

I wonder if theFAQ's ever said "server". I know it was "account" when I read it but that was only a month ago.

Sorry for my general distrust of the gaming community I dont know where I get that from.

Yeah right

If you still don't trust it, Tasos himself said it:

Do your research before accusing people of lying, thanks.

edit I'll add the second link for the lazy ones.

05-10-2008 Post by Tasos:

As much as I enjoy seeing heated arguments on the community board, I think some of you are getting a bit ahead of yourselves:

When I mention one race per server I'm making an argument in the racial context. The reason you can choose to play only one race is because we allow one character per server, and this has been explained before over and over as the only way to ensure player accountability.

So let me confirm again that Darkfall has one character per server and that's not going to change. We wouldn't go changing a feature without announcing it and explaining why we did it. We're not in the habit of just 'slipping in' feature changes.

Sorry if this created any confusion, I'll try to be more careful next time.

I love EA..  the way I love Darth Vader. Hahaa...  another studio that byte the dust.

But maybe is a good thing?  I suppose this mean the style of mmo represented in WAR has died, to fuel the development of TOR.

Or maybe this is temporal.  Or maybe the join of both groups could mean better things?.  IMHO  WAR was a really innovative game, with lots of very good ideas and implementations and art. Joining forces could produce better things here?

We need a game analist or something, to clarify if this is some horrible bad news  or very good news.

Holy F*** Batman!... Yeah... like Darth Vader indeed. So much to "EA changed and learned". Well changed my ass.

It is always bad news, because divsersity is better for creativity, as if everything is under one, centralized roof. Bad bad bad.

Generally it is more that Mythic is under Bioware control now. Could be good for WAR in the long run, who knows. But this studio destroying never was good. It wasnt good with Origin, with Bullfrog, with Westwood, with ANY OTHER studio gone. With it, everytime a big part of gaming died.

Agreed. The ability of EA to kill good franchises is unmatched. Dungeon Keeper for references.

I never had huge hopes for TOR anyway so the news didn't affect me at all.

It would greatly help if they just tried to be crystal clear transparent, at least now. Asking for money for the NA client sounds just.. weird. What changes are going to be done to justify this change, for example? If the client is being charged for, why the people who choose to transfer will pay a fee and not the client as the ones who had a fresh start? Is the fee going to have the same price of the NA client?

Don't complain if the playerbase is going nuts. Aventurine themselves don't even make it clear what will they be asking money for, nor how are the plans for everything.

Aventurine did a very basic mistake once more - do not make promises you cannot keep, with the transfer fee or "buying a client". Now they'll need a shovel to get out of the hole they just threw themselves in.

Nope, it's down right fucking retarded.

It's not, it's brilliant.

Look, with a waiting period of eight years of snail-slow development  and a release which featured only about 30% of the features that they promised in place, AV must have looked around and said..."Wow, these guys will put up with *anything* and still give us money".

And with that mindset, you don't have to worry about PR or the such, you've already been able to prove to yourself that your fans will put up with anything, and that's the time to go into "get every dime out of those players" mode.

Sounds harsh, but they have a chance to line their pockets, and they should jump at the chance.

Remember the old saying "A fool and his money are soon parted".

It's brilliant if they plan to lose subscriptions, not everyone will tolerate charges for a character transfer, or pay for another "client", unless major changes to it are provided beforehand. It's like the developers are shooting themselves on their collective feet... but with a grenade launcher.

Here is it:

forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php

By Tasos:

On the American server: The American server will launch on July 7th. Characters from the European server can be cloned and moved without their possessions 3 months after the American launch. Certain restrictions and charges will apply, to be announced at a later date. In the meanwhile if you want to play on the American server at launch you need to buy the American Darkfall client. More information on the American server will be available in a few days.

Darkfall will launch a massive free expansion update the first week of July, something that the Darkfall team has been working on for a while now. This expansion includes major new features and major content, PvE, and PvP updates.

In the last few patches we had implemented several major optimizations making it possible to support even larger battles and sieges and more concurrent users than ever before. As a result, massive battles now run smoother than ever. We’ve seen some of the largest and the highest frequency of massive battles this past month, which has helped us find even more ways to optimize the Darkfall experience.

As a result of these optimizations we’ve also been able to keep sales open most of the time. We’re still being careful because Darkfall resubscription rates remain very high even though this is a time for exams and/or vacations. It’s still difficult to buy Darkfall but we hope that after the US servers have launched it will be easier for new players to learn about and to buy Darkfall.

To that effect, a new site is coming, along with new forums for Darkfall players only. These forums will be readable by the public and only players with active accounts will be able to post in them. The current public forums will remain active for anyone to post in, but moderation will be stronger. This because we’re getting people from other communities with the sole intention of disrupting our forums. The Darkfall community has always been a source of good feedback, constructive criticism, and inspiration for the Darkfall developers and we'll keep it that way by doing away with the non-constructive elements.

Our next major patch will be included in the Darkfall expansion the first week of July.

Thank you for reading
The Darkfall Team

Edit: Tasos posted a clarification in the news link :

Clarification: American players wanting to clone and transfer their characters do not have to buy another client. Everyone else needs to buy the American Darkfall client to play on the American server. The European rights and the American rights to Darkfall do not belong to the same company, therefore you cannot freely transfer between the two territories, as is the case with most MMORPGs. Our offer of character cloning / transfer to American players is because we had said that we would try to accommodate them should they want to start playing on the European server.

I cant fall into the middle of the road camp, nor will i live in the status quo camp either.

The flags on the map represent a US military presence. You still think Iranians want our “Help?”

Al-Qaida says it will use Pakistan's nuclear weapons against the U.S. if it ever gets the chance. We're not surprised. Nor would we be surprised if it eventually got the opportunity.THis was released friday.

"God willing, the (Pakistani) nuclear weapons will not fall into the hands of the Americans, and the mujahedeen would take them and use them against the Americans." So says Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, al-Qaida's top commander in Afghanistan, where the terror group has found a friend and ally in the Taliban.

The protests in Tehran no doubt have many sincere participants. The protests also have the hallmarks of the CIA orchestrated protests in Georgia and Ukraine. It requires total blindness not to see this.

Daniel McAdams has made some telling points. For example, neoconservative Kenneth Timmerman wrote the day before the election that “there’s talk of a ‘green revolution’ in Tehran.” How would Timmerman know that unless it was an orchestrated plan? Why would there be a ‘green revolution’ prepared prior to the vote, especially if Mousavi and his supporters were as confident of victory as they claim? This looks like definite evidence that the US is involved in the election protests.

Obama has taken out the funding of Iran operations in the 2010 budget.

Biden opened his mouth briefly and warned that Obama would be tested in his 6 months, they where briefed after the election and while bush was still in office about the Iranian plan.

Thousands of tweets and retweets alleging that the election was a fraud, calling for protests in Iran, and even urging followers hack various Iranian news websites (which they did successfully). The Twitter popularity caught the eye of various blogs such as Mashable and TechCrunch and even made its way to mainstream news media sites.

Were these legitimate Iranian people or the works of a propaganda machine?

30,000 Iran related tweets in the past few days. Each of them had some striking similarities -

They each created their twitter accounts on Saturday June 13th.
Each had extremely high number of Tweets since creating their profiles.
“IranElection” was each of their most popular keyword
With some very small exceptions, each were posting in ENGLISH.
Half of them had the exact same profile photo
Each had thousands of followers, with only a few friends. Most of their friends were EACH OTHER.

Why were these tweets in English? Why were all of these profiles OBSESSED with Iran? It became obvious that this was the work of a team of people with an interest in destabilizing Iran. The profiles are phonies and were created with the sole intention of destabilizing Iran and effecting public opinion as to the legitimacy of Iran’s election.

I see the finger prints of the CIA,Israel, and British.the networks use to support the fight now the networks have become a weapon.

I suspect Obama will protect the stats quo.and it will come to a end.And even after all this death they will be invited to the 4 of July celebrations away.

But if you see the ministry of oil go up in flames you now its on like Donky Kong. Then the pilers of their economy are under assault as well.

It's not like Iran needs help for getting bad publicity though. Half of what comes out of their president's mouth is pure drivel.

Medieval Fantasy? I'm a bit tired of the old tolkien based fantasy lore around, but a good game overall can make me forget how the MMORPG lacks originality for that part.

Now about medieval,  is there a noticeable medieval MMO out there now? Medieval to me is just like Mount & Blade did,  even not being MMO, it was inspired in the Middle Ages, without magic, monsters or any races rather than humans, equipment does not make your character godlike and so on.

I think the situation in Iran demands no action just like Obama is doing.  First the opponent people are rioting for has executed thousands of Iranians.  It would be replacing a Tyrant with a Ruthless leader.  2nd how would people feel if Great Britian felt like they needed to vocally support the Tea Parties in the US?  The rioting is something that needs to be handled by Iran for its own pride.  Also the Rioters may not even represent the majority.  A situation where we were to intervene would be just like Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan in the 1970's.  I don't like to repeat history.

I agree. Changing mindsets does not happen overnight, and using brute force is not going to help.

"Ideas are bulletproof"

I'm not sure what can be done about Iran, but going the same route of Iraq is only going to end in failure.

So if a cleric rules a country, yet there are two marionettes disputing  his lapdog function labeled as "president", it's a democracy?

Alright.

Thats a rather simplistic outlook don't you think?

I think you'll find that laws are made by an elected parliament not the head of state.

That those same laws are enforced by a legal system, not the head of state.

He no more rules the country than your president rules yours. He presides over a system of government. He is the head of state, not "the state".

Ali Khamenei is still in his "supreme leader" place (check the link I posted) since many years ago. They make it clear the president is subordinated to him and there are no public elections for his position. His predecessor was a very popular guy, ayatollah Khomeini that is, you should look at his profile.

Quite ironic, they don't care about showing us how important the "grand ayatollahs" are to the regime, with such kind of titles.

What gets me is that Iran is accusing the United States of meddling in its internal affairs, alleging for the first time that Washington has fueled a bitter post-election dispute.
They want any way to blame the USA. Maybe a low key approach is best. If they can make us the bad guy then they can keep Ahmadinejad in power.

The thing is mate, Khomenei doesn't like Ahmadinejad either. Last time round Amadinejad won in direct opposition to the Ayatollahs will.
He got the popular vote that time too.

It's a mistake to think of this country as a top down theocracy. It isn't.
It's a democracy, or at least it was, if the opposition cannot be persuaded to accept the results of the election, it will have to turn into something else. One of the tenets of democracy is consentual rule, it's OK in a democracy that they oppose a rival party but not OK that they oppose the system.

So if a cleric rules a country, yet there are two marionettes disputing  his lapdog function labeled as "president", it's a democracy?

Alright.

Agree with //\\//\\oo, 100%. I  would like to understand why people kill animals for the hell of it, too. They should try it with bare hands for a more suited "challenge".

And nowadays we call the Middle Ages barbaric.... Yeah right.

I'm not a major in MMO designing, but I'm pretty sure a complex physics engine will take a considerable amount of server load, when you include tons of players and many objects to mess with, and/or destroyable environments. There will be just too many variables. Not saying it's impossible, but I don't expect a Crysis-like MMO, at least not now. I personally would prefer if developers think more about alternate progression types or a different approach to the gameplay itself.

As for TOR, I don't have big expectations for it, but having played a few BioWare games, I hope to be pleasantly surprised, if they offer a trial.

But yeah, they don't owe you another fine sandbox. I would say, be glad if they don't go the old and tried path.

Sadly it looks like Aventurine and their CEO never learn. Tasos has contradicted himself pretty often in the past, with the "we won't have pre orders talk" and more in the interviews. I wonder if he got any credibility left, anyone who takes his babble seriously is probably delusional.

Oh and there is bad publicity. You people who think it's alright to have an awful reputation (as a company providing a service) should wake up, that might be one of the biggest reasons a lot of people aren't flocking the DF's shop right now. Sounds like a risky buy.
