In fact it doesn't matter if people give you assumptions on why you should believe it or not, because it's mostly speculation. In the end, the only thing that really matters is the execution. And the time for it is getting close. |

WAR will be the hardest hit 'if' Darkfall suceeds
General Discussion « Darkfall 1/04/09 10:42:09 PM
Or maybe developers will learn to not lie about countless features not being presented in the game, also known as treating your playerbase as garbage. |

that would be a more cynical approach then skeptical actually. I have to admit that sometimes broken promises for devs. does tend to make the most ardent of fanbois "Jaded" but it happens. But skeptical analysis is more based on "Proof is in the pudding"... meaning that I guess we'll see when the game comes out. Will it be able to live up the the dev. hype or not?... only time will tell I guess
Actually I meant "won't buy" for not believing it will be delivered as said (missed "it" after the "buy"). In short, after some disappointments, I'll want to see evidence of the proposed mechanics before making claims/praise. |

Poll: Will you buy the game if there is no open beta?
General Discussion « Darkfall 12/31/08 12:30:05 PM
No, thanks to events such as Age of Conan's scam I'm pretty sure most won't buy it at first. I will wait for some valid opinions of how is the state of Darkfall in case of no trials, and if I find it nice I'll buy it. |

It's called Paranoia See, I wasn't referring to the friendly fire feature, but the whole package. That's a nice premise out there, don't you think. By the way, have you played it? Would be nice some insight on how game mechanics are working to back up some claims here and there. Now answer me on this one: do you think claiming DF is a revolutionary success by now is a bit exaggerated? I haven't played a MMORPG with friendly fire, thus I'm pretty curious about how is it going to work, but a known fact, games with friendly fire require far more teamwork than ones with FF disabled. It's easy to notice how FPS without it become a grenadefest/rocketfest and shooters with friendly fire require more brain about how you're going to deal with area damage weaponry and so on, I like it. But then for a MMORPG it's different. For a setup with massive PvP numbers wise, even more. If you don't mind I want to try it myself before dooming or praising it. So what, there's FF but servers can't handle massive battles, even worse than not killing the enemy, you end slaying your own guild mates, game is getting extremely frustrating. See what I did here? The content of the lines above is speculation, just like claiming the game is the best thing since sliced bread without even having played it. And friendly fire is just one of DF's features, I'm focusing on it now that you wanted to highlight the subject. I'm going to try it (if there's a trial) but I don't really get the idea of giving Darkfall awards before it is even released, maybe it's just me but it's a bit too early... It's called Fanboy

I used to think I couldn't get more fun than in darkfall's official forums, where you can get crucified for saying a negative comma about the game, it is amazing how people react there, you should see it. But guess what, I was wrong. It's always nice to see people and their beloved e-utopias here. Keep them coming. |

It's funny to find people rushing to give an award to a game that wasn't even released yet. Assumptions to the max.
Give us a break, it's not out and you're already giving "10/10 Darkfall cures cancer" views. |

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of seeing WoW repackaged in a different format. To be honest, I wanted to talk about WoW-AoC comparisons before. I don't really consider both games that different. Both got lots of instanced content, linearity, and boring endgame (and to some extent, in AoC it was absent for a while). About graphical differences, yes I enjoyed their style in AoC, but I don't really think graphics make the game. In most of my gaming experiences graphics would only add up for the fun but still there's tons of aspects for every genre out there in order to pull an amazing game altogether, I'm pretty sure that was said but it's always nice to repeat: gameplay > graphics anyday. In short it's pretty hard for me to see the line that was supposedly drawn between both titles. About Darkfall, even being really skeptical to this name, conceptually it is breaking the mold, with the old UO FFA pvp with full loot and so on, if the devs will execute the proposed ideas it's for another thread, and I'm not expecting much, seeing as MMORPGs nowadays are entering some kind of delivering-less-than-promised pattern (feel free to name the ones in this classification). |

I find it funny the statements labeling AoC as the MMORPG with most potential, next big thing and so on, it's sad to hear the truth sometimes, but well-rendered boobies don't make good games. Now if you want to mess up your game in development, you could follow FC's advices on how to promise wonders and deliver let downs. Really, despite of what's being said by lots of people in this thread, of how AoC is awesome now, increasing subscriptions nonstop, the tone of the OP begs to differ. |

How do they call it.... "damage was done", eh. Will be a pretty harsh task to regain the trust of most players who cancelled their Age of Conan subscriptions, myself included. On top of that, if the other existing MMORPGs deliver something innovative with a patch or something (highly unlikely) or new MMORPGs actually give the genre a revamp from the persistent let downs, even less people are going to look back for a new try. |

You know, posts like this one made me join the forums here. It's lovely how people forget the pile of failed MMORPG promises, and just theorycraft to the max as if mere assumptions were rock solid. I'm not saying "zomg darfall will failz" nor "Fourth-Gen MMORPG for sure", but I got to admit posts with this kind of tone from both sides make this forum entertaining. I remember how Warhammer was hyped like there's no tomorrow, I admit I really trusted the RvR aspects Mythic could deliver if you took DAoC as an example. Yet I see another game failing to live the hype. Good thing many other MMORPGs failed before so the "hype effect" was kind of diminished before WAR, and it's gone for good. Now I want to see it myself, play it myself before even thinking about praising or bashing a game. Let's wait for open beta or a release before drawing conclusions or even explaining how mechanics will work, or how ganking won't be as bad as it was in X game or how revolutionary it is. Seriously. |
