I'm pretty sure it's a "moot" point but I get your implication.

before snapping have you ever even did a reaserch on my post to back up your claim.

I guess not.

Im no way a fanboy. I play in the middle ground looting off the bodies of the trolls and fanboys alike.

do some reaserch. This thread basicly is to prove all the rabid fanatics who swear the game is still in beta.

As a former fanboy I think I recognize the symptoms of the disease when I see them.

Aventurine.. FUCK YOU

This.

How can you say that about darkfail...err fall...

Next thing you'll be telling me is that they will make release dates that they fail to meet...oh wait...

Then you'll be saying that they will have pre orders...oh wait....

Soon you'll be trying to convince us that people that get to pre order will then be screwed out of that pre order and blamed like it's THEIR fault....oh wait....

Then you'll try to convince us that they have an unfinished product that's buggy as hell...oh....wait...

You know what...just forget this post....

Some of you may remember me from a couple of months back and some may not.  I was a die hard rabid fanboy, defending AV and every move that they made.

I would like to take this time to officially eat every one of those words.  In the immortal words of  "Hitler wants a beta key",  "This is BULLSHIT!!!" lol.

I predict something generic such as "We are still experiencing things beyond our control and cannot launch today.  At  this point there is no way to give a definite ETA.  We are working to resolve the problem.  We apologize if all these delays are causing you to want to fly to Greece and storm our headquarters.  We will keep you informed.  Of course it will be when we want to inform you, as we already have your money and don't really give a shit about you anyway.  We look forward to seeing you in game."

@spankybus

Wondering the same thing myself bro.  It's a shame that the majority of todays' mmo players have clamored to the point where these watered down, grind fest, cash shop (in some cases not all) pieces of dung have become the norm for an mmo instead of the exception.

I mean you can't even really call a pvp server a pvp server anymore because of all the "safe zones", the fact that there is no player looting, and the fact that rarely (if anytime) does something actually break and VANISH in a game.

In mmo's these days it's like they've got the cheat codes turned on ALL the time.

It has already been said that their will be "stamina" in the game and that there will be weight issues in the game that affect stamina.

It has also been stated that, yes, there will be animals that will be like pack mules, i.e. carry stuff for you, in the game.

If you run out of stamina, you can't move...can't swing your wep, etc.  Now there will be potions to help you keep your stamina up but don't look for them to be earth shatteringly good as this game seems to be about keeping your wits about you and actually having to use your brain as your main weapon.

I can't remember the last mmo that I played where I couldn't just put my brain on auto pilot and still do as good as if I were actually thinking.  I hope DF will be the one that forces me to think again.

Any RP?

It really depends on what type of  role player you are, and also where you mainly stay in game I would imagine.

If you are the type of role player that tends to QQ when you get pk'd, then I'd say stay away from the major cities unless you are in a group.  But this doesn't mean the game won't be fun.  It's my understanding that you will be able to hire npc's to protect you and that these will not be the typical, stupid npc's.   They are supposed to be challenging.

Other than the threat of pk I would also think that DF would be a roleplayers dream in that you can make the world whatever you wish.  Well "you" is a loose term...I should say the players can make it what they want, in groups.  But the potential to become a succesful solo player is definately there too via the crafting, smithing, building etc.

Here's a thought:  Get a group of like minded people together to either form a guild or some form of team that you can work with, that is not affraid to take action against offensive players.

The only problem I have with anyone playing this game, is if they start crying "griefing, griefing".  IF YOU COME TO DF THEN KNOW THAT NOT ONLY IS IT A POSSIBILITY BUT ALMOST A DEFINATE PROBABILITY THAT YOU WILL BE PK'D AT SOME POINT.

Other wise please don't come and try to get the world nerfed for the rest of us.

Edit:  and by "you" I mean ANYONE.  Just wanted you to know, OP, that I was not talking to just you, lol.

God bless you, every one.  I am so glad you want pk'rs in the world...I will do my best to leave the shaft of my dagger sticking out of your back...and as you look up at me from the ground I will be sure and laugh and say "pwned noob"!!

LOL.  I'm just joking.  I don't go out of my way to pk people...but if I'm out in the forest and I NEED  a horse and you HAVE  a horse....hmmm....hmmmmm.....lol.

Edit:  BTW just wanted to say...Fred the Dread for president...lol.

You caught me red handed.  I was hoping that an MMO would finally be fun.  And I was so desperate that I made up things holding them as fact to make this MMO seem so good that when I played it in my mind I was having fun.  Now that you have showed me my fanboi errors with YOUR facts, I will go back to settling with the crappy MMOs on todays market.  I should not have once expected for a moment that our genre would evolve, or that it would be worth playing.  Please, those of you who are insightful, and who forsaw that Darkfall would be such a failure take me to your game, I'm sure somone as keen as you must have found one that doesn't blow.  Its dissapointing Darkfall has failed.  I guess its time for your I told you so's eh?  Now that you have proven us wrong.  Now that Darkfall has been exposed as a failure.  Now that we have all played and noticed that its impossible to stalk somone without stealth.  And that there are no player experiences because it was never beta tested.  And that it is a gankfest that is full of not fun.  And its immersive qualities were poorly implemented proving that things such as friendly fire and no stealth were excluded for a good reason.  Those of us who were caught by such features will submit to your better judgement.  After all you are the ones with the good judgement.  Those who anticipated Darkfall are just speculators.  We should have known it would fail instead of speculating it could be fun.  I cant believe I speculated.

I'll stop now.  But really, I have to smile every time somone says that Darkfall doesn't have what it says it has.  Because it is based even less so then those who believe that it has what it says it has.

Part in red deserves some kind of award bro!!  Hilarious sarcasm.

I agree.  We get shot down by the haters for daring to hope.  Yet what is sad is that they, apparently, have lost hope.

And what point is there to ANYTHING without hope?

I haven't seen any type of ad for darkfall anywhere, but with so much hype and controversy everyone and there brother has heard about it through word of mouth.

Dark and Light had no ads either but still managed to get 300,000+ people on their forums registered and sold who knows how many thousands of pre orders.

It's called promise the world to idiots.

See Darkfall doesn't cater to people with common sense and brains. It literally caters to simple minded gullible people who willingly believe in anything they're told.

There's lots of weak minded people in the world. Some blow themselves up in the name of Allah.. Others follow Darkfall Online.

Hype means nothing when you can't back it up and you can be pretty much guranteed that this game will NEVER backup the hype that it has gotten which at the end of the day will be the cause for it's quick downfall.

OH I get it now...instead of having faith that this game will offer something new as opposed to the TON OF CRAP MMO'S on the market today, I should be like you and just believe MY own hype...

Thanks for clearing that up for me .

There is no such thing as bad publicity.  I have no doubt that, at least at some level, this was a planned marketing strategy.  This is a smart ploy on AventurinE's part.

They keep silent...release just enough to tease the public...announce a few false release dates...do next to no advertising (thus saving themselves enormous capital), and everyone goes insane.  The fanbois rave one way...the haters rave the other way...doesn't matter if it's bad or good...just as long as people keep talking about it.  As I've stated before I have friends that are going to try DF just BECAUSE of all the forum talk.  It's a win/win situation for Aventurine...UNLESS THEY DON'T DELIVER.

If the product comes out and fails to live up to the things that THEY have said that their will be in game, then AventurinE will find it hard to get ANYONE to give a second project a chance.  We will be like, fool me once shame on you...fool me twice...shame on me.

It's a bit like guys who go to a strip club and spend money on the strippers thinking that they are going home with them.  The strippers may tell you they're going home with you...but believe me...they aren't...lol.

Well we can only HOPE that all hackers computers will explode in a great fireball...and that no store will sale them a new one.

Hmm...did I mention I hate hackers?  But I'm not bitter...lol.

@OP

You can see the name and the guild of the person if you are close enough when you mouse over them, and no that doesn't mean close enough to be attacked immediatly.

Also, it is a given that this game is not for everyone.  Roleplayers that don't like the prospect of getting pk'd will probably not enjoy this game.

As for travel being too long, again I say this game is not going to be for everyone.  While it has been stated that the world will be large enough for solo players to play and never run into anyone, I would imagine that this game is going to be more geared towards someone that has the free time to put into a game that is going to require say four hours a day.  Again the world is supposedly so huge (and supposedly filled with enough content) that a casual gamer could find somewhere to be entertained for a couple of hours.  This is merely speculation though.

Personally I feel that Agon will NOT be the world for a LOT of players that find problems with what you listed in your post.  But see there are people in the world like me who are disabled and don't particularly care for t.v. that WANT  world where we can spend say 10 hours a day playing with an immersive experience such as DF is SUPPOSED to offer.  And these people don't have to be disabled.  There are many people that would rather spend their free time in a virtual world than doing other forms of entertainment.  Now some might call this sad and perhaps it is, but I don't care.  It's about time that a game came out that appeals to those of us who want a living, breathing, cyclic world for a change.

Some people read fantasy for hours on end, some people role play for hours on end...so why not a world that appeals to people like me?  Is that too much to ask?

I think it's probably a good idea not to say what the game is about, what the features are and what the endgame is, the less info produced before release the better for Aventurine.  If you don't know what it's supposed to about or what the features are you can't pick fault with it later based on expectations, you are forced to play and comment on the game for what it is

There isn't really any reason people need this information, they can wait a couple of months until after it's released if they need to before thinking about buying the game.  If the game is good it won't make a lot of difference in long term sales, wow got less than 10% of it's customer base in the first couple of months, good games sell regardless of info produced before release.  First day sells may not be as impressive but their aim should be an increasing subscriber base not large amounts on release day and downward from there onwards as seen in recent games.

Although I agree with the second paragraph for the most part, the part I hilited in red is rather comical.

The game has been hyped SOOO much by the company, just because of it's "innovative" features,( and I say that laughingly because all the systems in DF have been done before but it's nice to see them in one game), that what are we SUPPOSED to have if not high expectation?

I wouldn't want to be AventurinE or Tasos if this game comes out and tanks.  IMHO.

They still need to put forth more info into the mainstream.  This will create a sense of validity.  Remember, Aventurine is trying to sell me, for they need my money as a customer to survive.   I cannot speak for everyone, but as for myself, I find I am very reluctant to believe in, much less, pony up cash for something I have to scour the web for.

Being DF is a month off of release, they need to feed my need for info and make it as easy as possible.  They need to sell me, and the best way to do that is to let various sources (affiliate, review, business and fan) do the speaking.

I am only speaking for myself, as a potential DF customer.  I wanna believe in DF, I just need Aventurine to gimme a reason to believe, or better yet...buy it.

I agree.

I think most would agree that both AoC and WAR had some compelling game designs with mechanics that sounded like they could work (as communicated by their companies, fans, and reviewers, similar to Darkfall). However, I think the majority would agree that they did not adequately deliver upon the designs they shared with the gaming community. My worry is that Darkfall will simply not deliver on the lofty design proposed.

Even worse, even if they do drop NDA and have open beta or a free trial it is very difficult to judge a game before playing ALL of its content. Case in point - many people knew about WAR before it released as they dropped the NDA and had a "open" beta for pre-orders that lasted a week or two. I myself participated and was impressed with the early stages of the game. However, the game was obviously all about the end game war and capturing cities. After release, once players got max level and started attempting fortress and city sieges, they realized that the game was broken (not to say that they won't eventually fix it). Again, my fear is that this could happen in Darkfall as the beginning game could be all nice and fun, but who will really know the state of the "end game" clan warring? Of course, as I alluded to, I believe most mmorpgs suffer from this as they try to offer some sort of end game that will ensure continued subscription. I suppose it also depends on what you want out of the game - solo pkers will not care if clan warring is completely disfunctional.

This reply is purely speculation and opinion on my part.

I agree with you on most of what you said.  However I don't think that DF is going to be about "end game" as much as it will be about a sustained, persistant, virtual world that moves in cycles as does the real world.  As with the real world, sometimes things will be great, sometimes they will suck.  Some people will be happy in Agon...some people will not.  People will come and go...but hopefully the ones that can realize the vision and potential of what this type of virtual world could be, will stay and try to shape it and make it so.

That is of course if the dev Deities don't end up reigning down Meteorites of Nerfness on all their followers as has happened in other virtual worlds.  Can I get an amen from the original SWG players, can I get a "Preach on brother!" from the pre AoS UO players...lol.

After reading a recent interview I have become more and more conviced, the game we are about to see launch will set the standard for many years to come.

Feel free to soak in the original article here http://www.curse.com/articles/darkfall-en-news/372269.aspx

You have to hide in shadows, blend in with the terrain, crouch in the tall grass, take advantage of elevation; you have to make sure you don't make a sound to alert your prey. During testing I watched a large group of players stalking one character. They did it for several minutes before they were detected. It's infinitely more interesting and fun than just clicking a key and waiting for an outcome.

This philosophy truly immerses the player in the world. We are not watching a queue for our frag fest scenario or waiting for a 40man raid dungeon timer to re-spawn. We will be thinking about how we can elude our preys senses.

What's turning out to be a unique feature as far as dungeons in MMOGs are concerned is that we don't have instancing. You go into a dungeon, and so do your enemies. You don't just have to contend with the inhabitants of a dungeon but with the other players.

Once again we see how players are imersed in the world. There is no magical wall where you "ZONE IN " and are all of a sudden safe from your enemies. The idea behind the MMO that so many titles are failing to grasp is their player base is not wanting to play a game but travel to another world.

A powerful fireball for example can do a lot of damage to a lot of people, but you have to take into account the problems with friendly fire, and self damage if you launch it to a target too close to yourself.

Did he say friendly fire? PBAOE groups are no more? Wait.. what?! This glaring game mechanic has been looked over countless times. Why is everyone all of a sudden immune to my spells?

     IMMERSION.

All this sounds very good.

My problem is all that I see is text.  There is the one 17 min vid and about 10 screens from the noob comic which really doesn't show all that much.   Certainly nothing in your narative above.

I go to the website, and I see the same screenies and text I saw two years ago.  I go to the noob and I see text and a very few edited screens.  I read the Curse or MMORPG.com interviews and get nothing but text.  The DF fans post Text...not screens, not vids, not play journals, but TEXT...all empty promises until further proof is given.

DF and Tasos now have to be careful.  Too much of this cloak and dagger bull and no one will try the game even if it IS good.   Folks don't like to be jerked around, and posts like this (and the referenced Tasos interview) is very much jerking us around.

It makes me ask, "What is it that Aventurine wants to hide so bad?"

Anyone can type up a list of features and testimonials.  What the DF devs need to do now, is release hard screen and video evidence to back up and support the OP and the Curse interview.  They need to relax the NDA and let their testers begin to advertise for them.  If they do that, then this type of PR will be a smash success.

However, as it stands, it sounds like a few folks are being paid or are volunteering to blow smoke up our butts and then condemn us when we ask to see the cigarette that is creating the smoke.

The only Immersion I see are the epic claims and resulting hate on these forums.... It is high time for the DF devs to put up or shut up.

Even though I am a fan of what DF COULD be, I have to agree with the wisdom in your post.  I don't think that it is unreasonable at this point for the dev's to release more than they have so far.  I mean the game is supposedly going to launch on 1-22-09 so it's not like a rival company could suddenly steal their ideas ( if it's good this will happen anyway after release, just look at the TON of wow clones), so now is the time for tv commercials, released gameplay vids and all of that.

I have to say that while I'm not accusing the dev's of blowing smoke, it does certainly seem that at this late date they are trying to hide SOMETHING.  BTW...I have read every interview I could find, seen every vid screenshot, looked up any piece of info on this game that I could and even tho I've only been waiting for this game around 2 months now, I FEEL as if it's been forever...so I can only IMAGINE how those of you that have been waiting 7 years feel.  I would have given up on it long ago I must say.

Again though, I hope that DF releases and we find out it's everything we've been promised and more.  But to all of us fanbois I have to say, remember the reality is rarely as good as the dream.  Let's just hope it's close.
