Anyone here that actually hopes WoW doesn't die?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 1/01/09 7:12:32 PM
careful guys, this topic is loaded. Anyone who speaks against WoW is getting warnings and bans, and having their posts deleted. Hell, I'll probably get banned for posting this. Seems people were right when they warned me that the mods on this site were paid shills. |

A sincere apology to the MMO Industry; You were right!
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/01/09 4:34:13 PM
pffft. whatever. people always make excuses for MMOs becoming nothing more than FPS games with gear. The fact is, developers went for the lowest common denominator in order to rake in the most cash they could. Therefore we have games that cater to the impatient, immature, and utterly stupid. OP, your post is a masterpiece, and perfectly illustrates everything wrong with the genre today. I heartily applaud you. |

RIGHT after release, MxO was a LOT of fun. Today...yeah....it's practically dead. SoE has it on life support with ONE Developer tinkering with it. The only people you will find are all max level players standing around hardlines dueling. You will become unbearably bored trying to level to 50 by yourself. It's a long grind, and very hard to solo all the way there. It would take you weeks of gaining trust among the few players in the game to find a guild...as all new players are viewed with suspicion, for potentially being alts of a rival faction player, and thus a spy. Sadly....MxO is dead. Wish they'd pull the plug already, and free up the IP for another game. |

I gotta say LOTRO. Excellent game. Graphics are phenomenal, attention to detail is staggering. I especially love the use of blur shaders to impart a feeling of "dread" or "hope", and to enhance other effects. The first time a bear stands up and roars in your face, you'll shit yourself. Quests are plentiful...no lack of content, and no real feeling of "grind" at all. Really can't recommend it enough. The only reason I'm not still playing it is because of lack of time for a real MMO these days. |

Sersi, you can get a 30 day trial from mmorpg.com, in case you didn't know. This will give you time to see what the end game is like, and roll some alts, etc. |

First I've heard of issues like yours. And oddly...although I've seen some really idiotic questions from n00bs, I've never heard anyone say "go back to wow". Odd. A lot of people have joined the game in the last 12 days, and I've not heard of any problems with the tutorial. I've not had a problem with it myself either. I don't know what to tell you. Oddly enough I don't see any post about this issue in the support forums. Did you not make one?? What platform are you running? Which renderer were you using?? I think that if someone told you to press "m" for mission log, that even someone trying to learn the interface could probably find the M button on their keyboard. I'm just a bit confused here. |

Vendetta Online; An open PVP game where a fight is determined 100% by player skill. Dueling, Piracy, anti-piracy, FFA, and "Border Skirmish" battles, all twitch-based. The game really needs more exposure. MMORPG.com has it tucked in a corner where no one can find it, while they plaster EVE and AoC logos everywhere. It's a damn shame so few people know about VO...especially those looking for a hard-core PVP game. |
|
Well, VO has actually been around for years now. It's not going anywhere. The only real fault that VO has right now, is that a beginning player may not see depth in the areas he/she might be used to seeing it. What I mean to say is...VO has depth, but it is focused on the community, in factions, combat, and the intricate nature of resource use. A new player will be looking for "quests", for crafting, for player-owned stations (which are actually in the works) and may not see the hidden complexity that the game holds. Plus, VO is REALLY a PVP game...those who join seeking to become full time PVE players will quickly become bored, and lose interest. PVE is a necessary evil in this game, to access better equipment and increase faction standings...but it's something you do while being hunted by pirates, and while under the protection of hired escorts, and the like. It's is simply a frame-work for PVP. Controll-wise, many of the best players actually use mouse + key. The system actually works quite well. Some people are even using Xbox 360 controllers. The game is really well coded, and I have personally tried several different control schemes, never becoming frustrated because something couldn't be bound, or inverted, or wasn't detected. I settled on a combination of stick and track-ball, which works very well for dodging enemy fire while keeping them squarely in my sights. Ok...enough writing about it...Imma go play now. |

It's crazy isn't it?? It's not the biggest game, or very complex....but it's so much damn fun. I think a lot of it has to do with the great community, and the incredible physics engine. I've played a LOT of mmos over the years, but this one has me hooked like I havn't been in a very long time. |

The entire game is open PVP. You can be killed anywhere. HOWEVER...there are areas that are heavily patrolled, and turreted. Fighting in the No Fire Zone near stations is not advised either. The PVP is a huge part of this game though...not really designed to be a PVE game. |

Neb, check the OP's post history. He's a JGE fanboi...prolly afraid people will discover VO and like it. |
|
What?? What bugs?? VO is one of the smoothest performing, bug-free MMOs I've ever played. You either have serious computer issues, or you're a troll....sorry, but I have to call them as I see them. Edit: post history explains it all. |

nah. but a lot of ppl (including myself) have just gotten into the game thanks to the free month that mmorpg.com is giving away. Unfortunately, the game doesn't get the exposure it needs...I think a lot of us new players are just stoked to tell other people about how much this game rocks, and to let people know it exists. 'cause I know I would have been playing it a while ago if I had known about it...and I have to think that others will feel the same once they try it. |

The game needs more exposure. Although I rather like the smaller community feel, I'd like to see more subs simply so that the DEVS could have more resources with with to expand the game with. The back story, and foundation are fantastic. I love the combat...the feel of it, and the intensity are very addictive, and are why I log in every day. BUT, I see the game suffering in the long term, unless more content is added. I can see where people might play for a couple months, and get bored. It's really a condundrum. More players would help the game grow, but unless it grows, more players staying long enough to make the difference is unlikely. |

couldn't get over the fact of no shields
General Discussion « Vendetta Online 12/25/08 2:20:32 PM
I've thought about the shields issue myself a couple of times. After playing for a couple weeks, I have to say that I think shields would ruin the intensity of combat. VO combat is about skill. Dodging, distance control, knowing the speed of your weapon. If you make a mistake, you pay for it. As a result, combat is intense, engaging, and addictive. I think adding things like shields would actually detract from that intensity, and "water down" the feeling that your next mistake could be your last. I love the feeling of absolute control that the flight model gives. It's such a precise, responsive system, and it makes me work on honing my skill each day. VO is a different kind of game, and I can't wait to see where the devs take it. I know I'll be along for the ride. |

well, you can get a free month from MMORPG.com I've been playing for almost a week, and I'm sticking with it. Game rocks HARD. |

I've been playing VO for a few days now, and everyone has been helpful and very welcoming. Pirates typically give you an option of paying them (many only charge n00bs 1credit the fiorst time), instead of attacking outright, and is usually in good humor. I sure havn't had any problems getting ganked in n00b space anyway...especially since the stations will open fire on anyone who attacks another player within a certain radius of the station, plus there are turret platforms, patrols, and the like in n00b sectors. Overall, I think some EVE players are trolling. VO kicks major ass, and is the only space MMO that I've actually gotten into. I'm glad I decided to give it a try, and I'll be playing for the forseeable future. |
