At first I always played it out, but some players in the forums stated this was bad manners, and it is appropriate to concede if a player does not have the cards to continue.

Not just the ads.   It would allow to actually provide reviews that are not developer funded.

And how exactly do you manipulate it except by losing games that you could have won?

Yep you got it.

Their current MMR is a flawed design that assumes players only motivation is winning, but the fact is the main motivation for most players will be gold accumulation.  I really wish they would open up practice mode to gold from wins and all dailies.

I run my hunter deck a little different.  Mana addict is ridiculously strong if left on the board.  I also run it in a secret paladin deck and it is even better there, since those secrets protect it better.

1x hunter mark

1x tracking

2x leper gnome

2x timber wolf

2x explosive trap

2x freezing trap

1x misdirection

1x snake trap

2x unleash

2x blue gill

1x ironbeak owl

2x mana addict

1x scavenging hyena

2x starving buzzard

1x eagle hornbow

2x animal companion

2x deadly shot

2x kill command

1x leeroy jenkins

Yes, yes, someone who pays a bunch of money and has a deck that consists mostly of rare or better cards does have a huge advantage over someone using only basic cards.  I get that.  But the ranking system ensures that they'll only infrequently play each other unless the player with vastly superior cards is quite bad at the game so as not to quickly rank up.

What good is an MMR that is based on expected wins and losses if a portion of the player base manipulates it to achieve their desired matches?

I think the better question is why base an MMR on wins/losses if the main reward is (gold) and has nothing to do with a players MMR?

Buying boosters to improve your deck(s) is what collectible card games are all about...

This P2W misconception is commonplace ever since HearthStone hit the scene. "Pay2Win this, Pay2Win that", an absolutely absurd way of thinking that has been bred by ignorant individuals who never played a tcg/ccg in there life and spend entirely too much time reading what other random individuals on the internet claim.

These sheeple people then go on to spend just as much time repeating it ad nauseam, perpetuating the whole vicious circle.

Card games by design are P2W.

I don't feel the payment model is overly bad for this game, but not allowing players to earn their gold via the AI (practice mode) is a huge mistake.

You make a compelling argument, and end up coming around to pretty much exactly what I had just said.

It's not a bad thing, I agree. I just don't see it as earth shattering, and I guess I'm just not as impressed or convinced of it's ultimate importance in the grand scheme.

Nvidia and Intel probably won't agree with your assessment .

OP - put yourself in the shoes of the developer for 1 second.

They need to recoup the costs of development (200M+) and then make a profit.

Subscription only is the stupid way of doing it as it has a ceiling on profit per player.

Cash shop lets each player spend as little or as much as they want/can afford.

Cash shops are the only SANE option for any major MMORPG, especially AAA one - regardless if they are subscription or B2P.

You need to have a cash shop otherwise you're just killing yourself on potential profits.

So you need to wake up, Zenimax woke up, good for them - now the rest of the players thinking that sub-only games are viable today need to wake up.

I sure hope you don't believe what you just stated.   Hoping that less than 10% of your player base will recoup the costs of a 200+ mil project is absolutely stupid.   Even more so when it doesn't appeal to a player base that actually embraces microtransactions.

The simple fact is that developers are not designing microtransaction games to target the ideal audience.  Western consumers have not embraced this model and I doubt they will.   Why would they accept the restricted gameplay, and the no spending limit that comes with this model?  For 10 years prior all they had to play was $15 a month to enjoy the entire game.

This is completely opposite of eastern audiences where software was largely free from piracy.  From this point of view, the microtransaction model satisfies the idea that software is free and has the positive option of supporting a developer.

At least NGE is happening during closed beta.   This will keep the number of bitter vets to a minimum.

Funcom are trying desperately to provide their existing fans with an almost "Cash Shop free" play experience, but it's going to kill them.

F2P only works for AAA MMO's if those games launched as sub-only and had a year or two of subscription income on top of the initial box sales. That covers the cost recovery and repayment of investors nicely, so the earnings from the later "F2P phase" are not under such huge pressure.

Trion will most probably be the next studio "on the ropes"...

If Trion doesn't try to push Rift's new payment model in china, then the end could be near.   The microtransaction model doesn't work with a western centered audience, and a game needs to have some appeal to eastern audiences if a developer hopes to have some success.

Just gonna keep this short;

A lot of people, so I've seen/heard from, believe that ESO will turn into what SWTOR once did. TERA switched, The Secret World switched, Rift...etc.

Do you think dishing $15/mo will be a bit much to some players? I mean even ArcheAge in RU Beta is $9/mo for premium.

If the subscriber numbers start to dip below 250k, then it may very well switch over to a microtransaction model.   At that point most publishers are just looking for that 2nd cash infusion before they put it into maintenance mode until shutting the game down.  The problem is that microtransaction models are just not viable in the west, at least there has not been one that has gained consumer approval.

For the people that disagree with this premise, or the video, do you feel like your playing a new game once you play the next themepark?

Yes. For example, driving a star ship in STO is vastly different, in experience, for me, than playing WOW.

Playing Captain America is a vastly different experience, to me, than playing a mage.

I think you missed the point.   Those would be the small changes made to the WOW template to entice you to play their game.

Yes, let's ruin yet another economy by introducing centralised trade. No thanks.

There is nothing wrong with an AH, but it is an ARPG, and I would argue that an economy doesn't belong in the first place.

In fact, it is the sole reason why POE is completely underachieving.

Developers have had this coming a long time.  In fact, the EU commission has been working on this for 3 years to come up with guidelines to protect consumers.  April will bring transparency to the microtransaction model for all developers.

The consensus of the beta forums is that if you liked vD3, then you will like ROS, but if you did not like vD3, then  you will not like ROS.

I wonder how much of it is true.

Wow..........  no microtransactions in GW2 for china.

I wonder why they chose to exclude them.

Bash it all you want, it is a good business decision and lets not forget that this is a business, employees get paid to make these games.  For people that don't have a lot of time to level a character this is a good deal.

Actually compared to many f2p games this is cheap.  Heck it is easy to spend $30-50 for a mount in many PW games.

The only thing that I disliked in the story was the indication that the new expansion will cost $60, that is rather high for an expansion cost and none of their expansions have been that encompassing lately.  This one had better be a dozy.

The one thing that WOW had going for it was the competitive nature of being server first.    This kills the leveling aspect of that.  All blizzard needs to do now is add a " One Shot One Kill " raid boss item and their shop will be complete.    Adding this type of item clearly indicates that they don't believe WOW has much longevity left.

There is no better way to kill your own game, than to add supremacy goods to your microtransaction model.

The game is P2W, but I don't think that has to be a bad part of the game.    I think it just  over shadows the fun because the match making for casual play is a broken concept, and by the fact that players can not earn their 100 gold + daily through the AI.

Give this game some color and I would have sworn it was GW2.
