If you can get it i say give it a try, it really improves some games. Sure, it wouldn't really benefit all games, but it's a nice alternative to sometimes use and it's not really that expensicve[mod edit]

3D might be the 'next thing', but it is BAD FOR THE EYES - PERIOD!

Our eyes are used to REAL 3D as we experience it in the real world. Making virtual 3D might be 'easy' to see for a limited period of time, but in the end, your eyes will keep focussing to correct the virtual 3D displayed from a 2D image, which wil ture your eyes and result in a headache in the end.

My eyes for one are 100% NOT SUITED for virtual 3D (a focussing anomaly), and even if I could, I'd not use virtual 3D for gaming / movies.

It's depending on your level and where and how you play in general.

My main is a 83 Maestro, and it's prolly the most UNWANTED class in parties. This means I have to play a lot solo, and right now I'm at the Beast Garden. Playing there solo for an hour or so, gives me about 5% in XP (depending on the feed I use to grow the beasts - I prefer gold for drops, while crystal gives about 5x more XP but no drops).

Playing in parties in Giants Cave things might go faster while leveling, but GC is a minless spot if you ask me. Full parties needed to kill HUGE (in HP) mobs, while drops are rather low though.

So yeah, there's still a bit of a grind these days, but it's far less than it was back when I started in 2006.

@OP - you've lost me when you said "what I found was very lackluster, very one dimensional gameplay that I've seen in many free2plays". I too tried to make a new char and enjoy the 'new content' added, but I didn't like it a bit. The newly added (themepark)  mechanics don't do the game justice at the lower levels, when you compare with what's to come.

CPU should be no problem. GPU on the other hand might be a bit too low (even in SLI), unless you reallly want to play at a low resolution like you said there (1280x1024).

And I could play on maxed settings in 1920x1080, though in very crowded area's FPS might drop to 15-20 (25-28 nov beta weekend I played). In 'normally populated' area's, my FPS was somewhere between 30 and 50.

Lineage II, but not really leaving it behind I'm afraid. I do need a change in game at times, and now that it's F2P, it's so much easier for me to play it a few hours a week ;)

GameGuard vs Frost is the only thing I'm still in doubt if I'd hop to Innova or not...  For one thing - You can't multi-box on Innova unlessyou pay subscription, while on NC you can multi-box all you want (have 3 old accounts @ NC). Fresh start is something to think about as well... *choice choices*

For me it's the other way around. I've already played L2 for a couple of years (ahum... since 2006 on NC servers), and while I normally don't stay long in MMO's, L2 is an exception. Now that it's F2P, I'll continue to play it, and can (finally) pick up an other MMO to play as well.

@OP - L2 is a bad example to play the asshat. But I indeed get your drift. It's like those goldtraders making tons of accounts on F2P MMO's only to SPAM for their 'services'. I can imagine that (bored) players will make an alt to blow off some steam and annoy everyone they come across. Just wondering why you only thin of this with F2P games? Most sub-based MMOs have enough other servers where you can make an alt to be the asshat you'd love to be ;)

Kinda depends on where you live in Europe I think. I used to play on Devianne (where Naia is located now as well) and had a ping of ~90ms. Very playable for me. But I can imagine that Polish, Czech, Greek and others in the Eastern regions of Europe will have severe lag issues...

Seen only 2 titles I can agree on so far in this thread: Masters of Orion & Metal Gear Solid (MSX version though). Also agree with DDO not being a dungeon runner but an open world (pathfinder online is in development BTW).

Personally I would like to add the Baldur's Gate (1) to this list.

Oh, 2 more just popped to mind. They never had any engine though -> Jinxter and Knight Orc. Would love to see those (and most other old Level 9 adventures) in graphical form :p

Uhm... Lineage II is all BUT carebear if you ask me. The FFA PvP/PK with criminal ruleset shows it IMO.

About not gaining XP anymore when red - yeah, that sucks. Wasn't like that in the past. I remember PKing a bot a couple of months ago at Execution Gounds (lvl 30-40). Took me about 45 minutes to wash karma (that's what negative rep was called then) there  and gained almost a whole level...

As to the C++ bug, its fairly easy to fix and has happened in several other Cronicle Patches.

uninstall 4game, reinstall 4game, when it hangs on install c++, Just uninstall the C++ x86, go to Microsoft, download C++ Redistributable install it and the next button will show up.

 

 

 

Tried that over a dozen times - not working. In the end a friend of mine (from Naia NCWest server) came up with the sollution to remove my old 2010 C++ installation and then give it a go again. Working withouth a glance.

What you played yesterday is on the NCWest EU server, which is actually located in Austin (TX). Innova will host 'the real' EU servers.

Yeah, I agree, that 1000s of players at the starting area makes things kinda bad. But that's no NC's fault, but yours. You're the one impatient and want to get things done NOW. You want to get through the content ASAP and get of TI village (can't blame you for that with so many players and thus lag there).

About servers of NCWest... They indeed made a bad decision for adding only 1 at GoD launch. By now a 2nd has been added and I hope this weekend a 3rd will be added as well.

I did play the GoD starter quests on the Russian L2 servers (without 1000s of players) and enjoyed every stap of it. I bet that in a week when most players are away form TI village, the NC servers will give the same experience as well.

About EU players, I can be short... READ THE NEWS HERE AND ON THE L2 SITE FFS! There's a deal betwen NCSoft (Korea) and Innova that Innova will take care of the EU servers (except Naia) and NCWest will take care of US servers. Innova will launch their servers somewhere later this month. Just be patient for Innova to launch, and we'll see you make a similar post on Innova #FAIL because once again there you'll see 1000s of players as well in TI village :D

Didn't wanna bring it up, but indeed, Amsterdam does have the old QWest European internet Exchange HUB. Good thing, my ISP (XS4All) is directly connected to it. So lets hope that the SWTOR servers will be in Amsterdam ;)

Most of the big data centres in Europe are near Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin.

That could be the reason why EU servers had more lag then the US servers playing from Holland.

Didn't really have lag during last beta-weekend. But I surely hope that the servers will NOT be in Ireland but either Amsterdam, Berlin or Frankfurt (LotRo EU-servers were there iirc). Ireland is soooo underdeveloped when it comes to digital infrastructure :s
