Thanks for the info! Only problem is that (as usual), Nuia seems to be in favor of a lot again when it comes to changes. Hell, Nuia seems to have all good features of the game close by compared to Halcyona...

I'm not sure this is necessarily true.  I'm not THAT into PvP and I think it's fine running around the world doing PvE.  You're not technically forced into it, just because there's so much else to do.

But I'll say that if you're not that into PvP but don't mind wetting your toes a little in it, then it's a good MMO to try.  Do safe PvE most of the time, be a farmer, a trader, explore and fight, but then occasionally try and run a trade pack across the sea into hostile territory.  It can actually be a big thrill, especially when you know you could be attacked at any minute.

I'm no hard-core PvP lover myself. I rather see it as a means to get things done and/or defend myself. Yeah, I can PvP just right and if there's no zerg I enjoy it as well.

But that remark about getting a tradepack into hostile territory is completely wrong and I'm on a crusade against it. Players doing this are doing it all wrong and deserve their pack to be stolen by dock campers. IMO you should get your mats to the hostile territory, make the tradepack there and get back to your own territory. It's pretty save to get to a workbench in enemy territory (except during weekend peak hours :D), and you're not to be bugger by the dock campers on the other side...

Played Lineage II for 6 years myself and have had similar experiences. Okay, there were a couple of perm-reds (pirates in AA I'd say) who just killed everyone they saw, but aside from that, mostly the PKing was about resources & mobs.

ArcheAge has the problem that it's in alpha and most played just don't give a damn about their character and play the ass they can't be at release (unless they want to become a pirate). In the early days of release, a lot of PKing will be done for those who want to become pirate OR those who do not understand the mechanics. After a month or so I think the PKing will balance to how it has always been in Lineage II - mainly for resources and mobs...

Good bye

A/A is a VERY fun game to play.....but with the now 80/20 split and crafting requiring mats that come from the PVP side continent...there's just no reason for a pve'er to play.

I truly can't wait now (absent further changes) for all you pvp'ers to start crying about the lack of sheep.

As in a previous comment......no other true PVP game has survived well much past release.

The sad truth is that while not ALL pvp'ers are gankers.....most are!  They really do not desire a fair fight.....they just wanna pick on the sheep.......

I don't understand why Trion simply does not offer a PVE server.  Yea, I've read all the comments that this is a PVP based game.  Truth is.......it does not have to be!

Let us care bears wander around gathering and crafting to our hearts content without being picked on by the folks that got to max level on release day!

Why not let the market decide?  Just see where the majority of players land.

It really is a great game..........Except for the gankers who do nothing but live for the thrill of killing players far below their level...

I just don't understand........it's akin to playing any game and killing grey mobs.....wheres the skill in THAT?

Or.....limit PVP to a toon your level or higher.......such simple fixes.............and yet.....

Don't see the problem with the 80/20 split that you're complaining about. It used to be 100/0, so when you lost your pack, you'd loose everything...

Okay, to get gildas you have to cross the sea and I think you mean that dock campers are waiting for you? Why not turn things around and go to the other continent, make your tradepack there and deliver it on YOUR continent. Dock campers be dock campers, but they can not touch you because you're the same faction :D

Not to mention, doing daily quests gives more gildas than trade across the sea. You can get a minimum of 5 and a max of 8 (with 30K husbandry) gildas a day and that's totally save. Compare that with that one lousy gilda that the traderun gives (aside from Freedich, but with 80/20 you still get 1 when you loose the pack), makes one wonder why to chance to loose a pack in the first place...

Anyway, if you're leaving, remember to clear your farm plots so that we can take it :D

Why does everyone keep calling it a PVP game?

Planetside 2 is a pvp game.

Archeage has both PVE and PVP content integrated.

My friend tried it and after a couple of days of PvE all you see is higher level characters camping low level characters and that is player versus player. My friend likes pvp I don't but even him won't play it.

This kind of behavior happens in EACH and EVERY MMO that has PvP elements. Play World of Warcraft on a PvP server and be sure to be ganked the moment you step into contested teritories, EVE online is even worse the moment you leave 0.6 space for lower security, Lineage II has the same story with a full open world PvP system and lots of ganking.

Looks like your friend doesn't like PvP and is nothing more than a carebear who should stick to the fixed faction PvP MMOs...

I haven't jumped in on the ArcheAge hype yet, but I'm considering it.

I don't want another cash shop driven MMO, however.  I fear that's kinda the way the market is going...

Is this game really a AAA MMO?  Or is it just another 'grinder' with a N.American companies blessing?

I think ArcheAge is worth the time and money spent. I even have to say that at 50 before the 1.2 patch I was pretty bored, but now I'm having more fun and more to do than before...

AA is not cash shop driven, but there is one of course offering a lot of 'time boost' items. There are 2 items however that could make it a bit P2W though. One is a certificate to sell a property (even your bound scarecrow garden!), and the other is a certificate that allows you to make a HUGE (24x24) scarecrow garden from the large (16x16) one. Recipes are already there in the game,  but the cash shop is not implemented and honestly I am waiting for the cash shop to be implemented to test it and see how much P2W is in there...

An AAA MMO? Yes and no. It uses CryEngine3, but when you look at certain details you see that textures are low ress and such. But what does AAA have to do with enjoying a game you play..?

I guess i have played a different WoW than you.. because the sheer amount of options and alternate pathes never showed up.

I played the same WOW as you, Apraxis. I fought my starting area stuff, then went to crossroads to kill zhevra, kill ostrich, get raptor eggs, Echykee, Mankrik's wife, and blah blah blah... same exact routine, same linear path, same limited progression system.

Definitely a fun game with good replayability, but to suggest it's because of the options is silly. If anything, it's the on-rails gameplay and lack of choice (therefore lack of chance to screw anything up) that made it popular.

Could not agree more with you and Apraxis. WoW is probably one of the most dulling MMORPGs out there. Oh yes, it's polished (to some standards), but for me the game only offers me the same boring railroad that takes me from point A to point B. And much like Apraxis wrote, I don't like instances at all, and arena PvP is PvP I avoid if I can (ArcheAge has arenas as well and I have yet to visit them :D)

Stopped reading there...

ESO is totally different than those 3 you name. ESO was build to be a PvE MMO all around questing, while the ones you played are made with PvP in mind.

Anyone else find an unsolicited charge from Trion today?  While i was sleeping my account was billed for $149.99 for the Highest level founder pack.  No history of the transaction occuring on the trion account management site and nothing in steam either.  I did view the contents of the pack via the steam app but never put it in my cart or purchased it.  Just curious if i am lucky or if others have been hit by this as well.

Very odd and hard to believe. I guess you did press the PURCHASE button accidentally or something. Add to that that Steam charges you automatically without any redirecting to PayPal/CC site and you have your answer there.

Yes, Steam now even charges your PayPal account DIRECTLY if they have your data on file. PayPal DOES NOT check if you did give Steam authorisation to charge you for the purchase or if you have setup a 'direct debit' for your PayPal account. I have removed all my payment data from Steam now and will most likely no longer buy from them but from cheaper 3rd pary sites like GMG and G2A.

You missed the biggest one - Elder Scrolls Online.

Was about to bring that one up as well. Not to mention, most recently released MMOs tend to be more single-player than multi-player :(

AA is not a sandbox like EVE is (sadly enough), but it is a sandbox. AA comes close to the political sandbox that Lineage II is. That game is not a sandbox and has a huge themepark label on it, but when it comes to politics, it's as much a sandbox as EVE and AA is...

What indie games would these be then?  As compared to what AAA games?  You know, specifics and all that.

Wurm Online

Darkfall

Xyson

and even EvE

Eve Excluded ( never played it for more then a hour ), I'd say because all those games feel unpolished and clunky.

More content, but the overall quality is far lower.

I'd also argue that theres not really more features, but simply different settings, just because a MMO offers freedom / sandbox elements, doesn't mean it has more content then a themepark.

so out of the games I listed Darkfall has the least amount of features.

here are SOME features in that game in which I am curious if its possible in AAA MMOs

build ships

sail ships

ship warfare

build cannons

build strongholds

twitch combat

ArcheAge has all the features you just mentioned! Yet again, it might be a AAA title, it comes from a new studio and should be labled as indie?

Had to logon first to get my char in the select field. Think I should be playing RIFT some more (when I have time...) Anyway, thanks TRION & MMORPG.com for this giveaway!
Haven't seen any botters/teleport hackers yet (prolly because I'm still only 15 :D), but when I see them I'll use the same trick to report. Thanks for the awesome hint!

Talk about a crap ton of stolen CCs.

So in other words we over sold alpha slots and so we are going to ban 16k of you and steal your 2.4 million dollars. Thank you for choosing Trion.

Think DMKano meant that the goldsellers were using stolen CCs and not TRION :D

Errr think the OP is confusing the recently released Shadowrun Returns, with the not yet in testing Shadowrun Online.

I play returns, and am a kickstarter for the online.

Playing Returns as well (need to end the original game and then start on the expansion, but ArcheAge now kinda eats most of my gaming time :s). I have also just bough the onlne on the Steam sale and I hope this game is at least as good as the returns game.

For PnP gaming, Shadowrun never really grabbed me (I was more an AD&D2e player), though I did like the CGG of the setting a lot (which sadly only had one main set and a small expansion). But the new computer games look very promising and somehow make me sad I never played the PnP when FASA was still around...

On the positive side for us (legit) players, with the ban of all these accounts, a butt load of farm plots will become available soon(ish) when the tax paid period expires...

On the negative side, though TRION banned 16K accounts already, there's still a huge amount of goldselling SPAM in the /faction channel. Means that TRION must have missed a large number of accounts ;)

Somehow, AA being a F2P game at launch makes me cringe. The fact gold farmers are willing to put this much effort into selling gold during alpha with illegal accounts doesn't bode well. I think Trion and XL Games definitely have their hands full with trying to keep a handle on this once the game launches.

However, they did managed to sniff out 16,000 accounts, so maybe they finally got that toolset they were talking about for doing just that.

Scapes stated earlier that with the current build of AA they can't ban characters/accounts in the game and banning has to be done manually. As the linked post states, the upcoming build 'gives more tools', meaning they can insta ban you in-game.

Of course, a F2P game always has botters & goldsellers, but with the lack of ban tools in-game with the current build, they'll rampage quickly. With the upcoming build I think GMs will be more active in-game and keep these pests at bay...
