I don't think first person is going to be as clean in an MMO as third person. It's ok in FPS type games where you don't have 100 people standing in one location (auction house, etc). Third person is really more user friendly for MMO's.

Just my 2¢.

I don't have a hunter, but I have friends that have hunters and I know the mentality behind their selection of pets. They're going to stick with gorilla for the mass amounts of damage it does to trash. You see, they like to be on top of the damage meters the entire time and they can do that with gorilla pets. If they drop down to a pet that is slightly better at single target, they're dropping their overall raid damage. And in many situations, even boss fights allow for some AoE goodness.

Gorilla is the hunter pet. Anything else is just being different.

Just my 2¢.

They really should lay low until they're closer to stomping discs. This type of PR "news" stuff is great to hear, but how many times have we heard these fluff concept releases only to find things conflicting closer to release? Too often. IMO, shut it until it's closer to release. Anything before then and it's too subject to change.

So what exactly is new and inovative about this game?

Nothing , it is an old school real game with well integrated features and everything that used to be good about MMOs. Simple really.
The innovation is in the nerve to go back to what was good, and not continue with the currnt trash being released.

Wasn't this the same line some of us fell for a while back with Vanguard?

I was quite surprised the game released w/o quad core support. During one of the dev interviews, an AoC rep said they had quad core boxes for testing and that they were building the game to take advantage of them. I guess they didn't have the time to fully develop this feature.

In any event, I'm glad to hear they're still working on getting it working.

Having played WAR for a bit, I can say that the pvp demonstrated in this video was what I remembered it to be. As some have pointed out, typical zerg, circle-strafe pvp. Nothing new. Didn't feel special or exciting, just more of the same.

However, if you're enjoying it, great! I really wish I would have been more excited by it. WAR was previously on my "watching" list, as was AoC, but neither really did it for me. Why am I in these forums? I'm kind of bored with WoW and want to try something new. This happens to me quite often, I just usually end back with WoW, but it doesn't mean I stop looking.

I was actually looking for good videos of AoC when I stumbled on to this very ordinary thread.

Not that I currently have or have ever had a FilePlanet paid account, but your argument was pretty weak. I don't think you convinced anyone to boycott FilePlanet at this point.

I've played the various races there's alot of mixing going on.  Its not a massive scale but to be honest atleast 1 out of 5 of your friends probably wants to play a class from a different race.  My own friend is interested in the DE Sorceress and probably will play that one since we're going Greenskins at launch all she has to do is walk to the Warcamp and boom she'll be able to fly right to us and we'll go from there.
Its no different than any other game there'll be plenty of mixing especially if your in a guild.

Actually, I noticed this while playing a witch elf today. It seemed like there were a lot of HE swordmasters and even white lions. Then again, when I was playing my sorc, it seemed like there were tons of shadow warriors.

And yes, I can say "I think" in reference to what I believe other people will notice. I can't say with certainty that anyone will notice anything.

I think people are going to notice the battlegrounds aren't as balanced in some of the starting zones. This will be due to one side having all of the classes available to them and the other side not.

Take the High Elves vs the Dark Elves. The DE's are lacking a tanking class which will in fact hurt them because they won't have the very resilient players on their side. Granted, Black Orc's could come in to fill that role but the chances of that happening are slim. I understand that this will change as you get to the higher levels, but in the low levels it's going to become more obvious.

The Empire may feel this against the Chaos as well.

How was he 4 levels below you? I noticed that in RvR combat you're pushed up to almost top level for that area. For example, in the 1-10 combat areas if you go in as 3, you're bumped up to 8. I was under the impression this was the standard.

 have a read through this thread;

http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/197702

Noggin - I read the entire thread.
It was mainly people arguing the merits of open server rulesets.. and the chicken.
But I have sen no compelling argument explaining why the core RvR rulet, with restricted zones, is better for PvP. I am sure there are reasons, and I would like to hear why.
Is it simply so you can act like you are in a pve game when you want to? If so, I can understand core rulesets appealing to pve players.
But why would a pvp player choose it? (chicken access to tiers aside).
I really would like to know.
The only thought I came up with is that focusing all pvp in certan areas was judged to lead to better pvp. But the cost is random player driven pvp. Small hunting parties and so on.
I think I will go core, but I really worry I am effectively choosing the more pve server; when for me its all about the RvR.
My favourite times in WoW were hanging round gadget in tanaris and running around in small scale random pvp there. I fear RvR is all about the zerg.

Ok cool, it was quite possible you'd missed that thread.

My main argument, which I beleive I posted in that other thread is just the fact that Core is how the game was meant to be played.

Imagine a game of Baseball, but instead of running from 1st base through 2nd, 3rd and 4th they have an alternate set of rules that says you can run to any base after you've hit the ball.... Sure you'd have something like baseball played on the same field, but it's just not how it was meant to be played.

When you PvE in your zones you help your Realm's progression and when you fight in RvR zones you help your Realm. You get Renown for capturing the objectives and whatever. There is no reason nor reward for fighting behind enemy lines other than the self satisfaction of bothering someone which some players seem to hold in such high regard.

The way that the zones have been designed for PvE means that you really don't encounter the enemy when questing. So it's unlikely that anyone from the other side will be kill stealing or whatever, if they are and they're in your zone they will be flagged for RvR and you can just attack them anyway.

It just seems that developing another ruleset other than Core is something of a waste of time, Mythic made a game (compare it to a board game or tabletop game) with a rulebook and that's how it was designed to be played from the ground up, Open is just an afterthought.

Thats a cowards arguement.
In War the civilain population in the factories can get killed too from bombing sabotage rais etc.  no where is truly safe.  Now imagine if an armys self appointed crack troops could walk into safe areas anty time they chose - that would be advantageous but it wouldnt happen in a real world situation without special treaties etc.
PVP realms in mmogs develop codes of behaviour, opposing sides reach convenient arrangements but players lawasys have to keep on their toes and that t omy mind is the way it should be.   If there are parts of the game where becaue of a design oversight serious injustice can be done they should be addressed.

Ok, but in real life, there is no respawn. In games, you either get a certain number of lives, possibly a penalty, or maybe no penalty at all. Please don't compare real life war to a game and expect any amount of logic to be obtained from your statements. There are no real codes developed on PvP servers because life isn't frail. You will always have gank squads with no real penalties until you have a permadeath game.

(I don't believe WAR should be a permadeath game, I only mention it as a possibility for some type of unspoken code to show up in a MMO.)

Less than three years. lol

Sorry, had to do it. It was in the video, it's less than three years from release, which in MMO release is pretty soon. :)

SWG just isn't the game it used to be and it makes it less fun for me for some reason. Even if it were completely free all the time, it wouldn't be fun.

I never got in to L2 because it seemed like, from reading about it, that the PvP was the typical zerg style korean PvP and the leveling was grinding. Didn't seem like fun. Also, typical class system, nothing new.
