Yeah definitely.  I think they are taking an interesting approach.  I believe there will be ruins and camps all over the world where players can get together and hunt.

Also I know of random mobs dropping very rare keys that open chests that are hidden around the world.  They can have pretty awesome rewards and require some crazy exploration.

I think the exploration, and world aspect of this game far surpasses anything before it.  As long as they have solid netcode, can support their player base, and pump out content and patches like they have been I think they will do just fine.

*high five*

Ive noticed several silly posts here claiming that Darkfall's barren landscape is purposeful. " We dont want or need npc's to quest from or mobs to kill " they say. The game is about pvp and those mobs will just get in the way.

This is just a poor excuse for an empty incomplete game. The leaked videos dont lie or make up explanations for the game. They show it for what it is, a barren shell.

18 days till launch, considering they couldnt make a complete game in 8 years I doubt anything will be added in the next few weeks.

This game has Dark and Light written all over it.

Ummmm.... a huge world to explore and eventually build houses on IS a feature.  Remember UO?  It was pretty barren, but for the same reason as Darkfall.  If you want your 20 foot shoulder armor, glowing everything, and Barrens chat -  you know where to go back to.

Ha!  There are a lot of similarities.  Well played!

Man, don't bother with this guy.  He obviously has no understanding of game genres at ALL.  He wants to play an FPS and dress up in plate armor.  There ARE mods for CS Source that allow just that, btw.   He's not even remotely interested, obviously, in playing an MMORPG, which is why the community of Darkfall may just completely SUCK.  It's too bad that the devs are wasting SO MUCH TIME trying to make this insanely immersive PVP MMORPG, with so many many various things to do....only to WASTE IT ALL on punks like this supposedly 40 year old ganker, that probably gets his real life feelings of manhood and security from killing teenagers in a PC game.

To each their own.....

I am sorry I don't like Barbie dress up. Feel better now?

I love full loot pvp too, and I can't wait to loot your corpse.

The ability to burn down your house, and you with it.

Not if I can help it!!

Personally, it is non-instanced housing, and it is my main draw to Darkfall.  I want to be able to own a piece of the world, and have people be able to see it.  Games that don't give you a house just plain suck, and ones that give you like an instanced room are just a slap in the face.  Non-instanced housing makes you feel like part of the world and needs to be in every MMO.  I loved the good old days of UO just exploring the world looking for people's vendors, and seeing what everyone's house looked like for ideas for mine.  Good stuff.

if you just want a house to dress up, you shoul be playing Second Life. Darkfall is about killing people. Not showing people the new curtains on your house.

Wow you couldn't be more narrow-minded if you tried.  Making your own shop, space management, making a tavern?, a guild hall, etc. is not the same as an avatar chatroom.  And so what if I like showing off my designs?  I was an innovator when it came to UO house designs - I can't prove it but I'm pretty sure that I was the first in the game to make a fish tank out of random stuff.

sorry cant choose between those.

No healer classes?  Didn't know about that.  That is just filled with win!!

Check out these threads: why NOT to bother with VG or Returner Review: Weaknesses/Strengths & Opportunities/Threats

When you know what game you're interested in I suggest checking out threads in their specific forum instead of asking people to repeat themselves.

Wow...  does food taste better up there in your ivory tower?

Do you think Duke Nukem Forever will come bundled with this game?

It's a good idea for MMOs to have less servers.  Wait times are no big deal, and when you see lots of people online you feel like your game is succeeding and have more fun in turn.  My server for AoC was pretty barren...  Like 40 people online at most times...  It's why I quit.  That, and the game is still in beta.

I don't care how close we get - I am skeptical.  Okay, let's say it does release(finally), will it suck?  MMOs have been notorious for promising more features than can make release.  A small developer team makes me nervous, but their developement time balances that out.  I want the game to succeed, I wish them the best of luck, but I have a feeling they're going to need it.

Can't wait to see what he does!

Don't listen to anyone who says the game is perfect or the worst game ever.  It's completely mediocre.  Every good thing in the game is balanced out with something bad.  There are better games and there are worse games.

Pros:
--------
-Combat - DDR fighting is a lot more interactive than most MMOs
-Some of the instances are pretty cool.
-The noob island of Tortage is well made with voice acting, cinematic quests, and just a good introduction overall.
-The graphics are very nice and only will be better when they finally release DX10.

Cons:
---------
-Level 65+ are just a grindfest with the least quests.
-Post Tortage(Levels1-20) feels unpolished compared to the beginning.
-Kheshatta is the only level 70+ area.................. which is retarded.
-Crafting - Its a joke.
-Itemization - You can find more armor/weapons in an NES game.
-End game - Plagued with problems longer than a 10 year old's Christmas list.
-Updates that take forever to be implemented.
-A failing community that can only get worse due to bad word of mouth.
-Mounted combat = worthless.  If you want to die then fight on your mount.
-The PvP update was not worth crap.

I could think of more for pros and cons but I will stop myself there.  The fact is that you should have fun will leveling in an MMO, or you aren't playing - you are working.  Age of Conan is top tier when it comes to leveling because the comhat is fresh and fun.  When you hit level 65ish, however, the game turns to ass.  Level 80 is not appealing - there are so many turn offs...  It's sooo sad because this is the MMO that a lot of people wanted to succeed.  Give the game like 2 years... ehhhh...  I  can't even finish that sentence.  The MMO industry is so fickle that if your game starts out bad you're done!  AoC has had so much time to be fixed, but it still feels like beta testing.

This has renewed my interest in the game!  No global chat = win!!!

January 22 or whatever is the Euro release... so when is North America??  I don't care that we can play on the same day - I want a US server or nothing.

So I checked the ratings on this site and according to the list, World of Warcraft is rated at around number 21 of all released MMORPGs.  Ouch.   Okay, so I play WoW, but my intention behind this post is not to tell you that you're wrong or voting badly, but merely to ask the following:

Do you honestly believe that there are 20 better  MMORPGs than WoW (or at least closely comparable)?

If you are at all willing to answer, perhaps you would be inclined estimate how the following might rank WoW as well, I assume there are none around to ask directly:

a) Professional opinion -(what other game developers might think.)
b) Pseudo-professional opinion -(what games journalists might think.)
c) A typical PC-gamer's opinion - (what a person who might enjoy games such as Half-Life, Fallout 3, Red Alert 3, etc might think)
d) The 'Veteran' - what someone that has played more than a couple of MMORPGs for signfiicant periods of time might think.  Actually I think that includes most of us.

There's no rhetoric behind that question, if you really believe that that there are 20, or even 50 better MMORPGs, then that's fine with me.

I would rather play Ogre Island than WoW.
