Ah the sandbox MMO, my pipe dream! I'm in pretty much the same boat as you(without a pipe) and as a result I've returned to the world of Ultima Online(PRS not EA). I still haven't see a game that has half the sandbox elements that UO of yesteryear had, and that 'yesteryear' is starting to go grey. EVE sounds like it comes close, although the sci-fi genre, spandex pantaloons and a space ship as an avatar do not call to me. Likewise paying a subscription for a first person shooter(with swords!) aka Darkfall is not my cup of tea. I'm after a game world that not only has space for, but actively encourages roleplaying and player interaction. This doesn't mean forced grouping or raiding or not having a valid solo playstyle, but rather providing a framework through which players are interdependent to varying degrees for survival, just as we are in the 'real world'. I'm after a game world that provides more tools than just combat, and I'm not talking about some half-arsed tacked-on crafting system in which every individual has alts(or mains) with every craft skill. I'm talking about a game that offers a variety of activities that players can partake in, shape or even create. I'm after a game world that offers some semblance of realism, that actually adds to gameplay rather than detracts from it. For example, if I kill a deer, I would expect to be able to get some meat and hide from the corpse. I wouldn't expect to find 20 gold coins on it, nor would I wish to know how I retrieved those coins... The reason I have just chosen to start playing Ultima Online again is because it is the closest thing(still!!) that I have found to the world I am looking for. I wouldn't ever touch EA's UO again but there are some really talented developers out there who are doing a lot with RunUO. In UO I can:
Gotta cut this short as I've gotta go but if anyone is curious about UO, shoot me a PM. It ain't perfect but it does the job quite well for now :)

Atlantica Online is one of the best, if not the best MMO I've played andt it certainly is distinctive with its timed turn based tactical squad combat. It is a FTP game with item mall that has deep strategy, pvp, crafting and a great economic simulation rolled into one. |

Even stranger is that my fiance got an email from SOE today about the free time but I didn't. No idea why they'd email some and not others, nor why some would get free time and others wouldn't. |

Yeah definitely weird, I didn't receive an email either. If I hadn't stumbled across this thread I would never have known. I just checked my fiance's station account and her account has been credited with the free time also. Perhaps there is a stockholders meeting coming up, and they wish to show how active the game is? :P |

I'm glad I stumbled across this thread, just checked my station account and lo and behold I have 23 days free time as well. Thanks SOE for the Xmas gift, I guess you're not as bad as I thought! :D |

I'm running XP so it can't be that. I only had the issue in the tutorial area and the game has been perfect since. |

No you can't kill those buff bots. They are inside the portal keep and are totally safe from any harm. As much as I love the game, buffbots were one of the main reasons I left before I decided to join them and have my own bot account. |

A Great Game Reborn: Dark Age of Camelot /moved

Many, like myself, have already rerolled on Devon due to its high population. With one server on new hardware, even with current numbers, there will be an average peak of 3000 similtaneous players on per day. This, combined with proposed changes to potions to decrease the difference between buffed and unbuffed players, will attract even more players. It also means that Mythics overheads are less, and increases the longevity of this great game :) |

You might want to check this article on the Herald as well www.camelotherald.com/devblog/news_article.php which talks about the supercluster that is being proposed. Supercluster is a bit of a misnomer, more like a new server that everyone will be moved to - this will mean one server will have 3000+ people on in peak periods. There is also a system being proposed to give Classic players(Bossiney cluster) ToA bonuses/conversions of equipment.when they transfer. Note: this will be a forced transfer to the new server Ywain. It has been discussed by the devs on both Facebook and the VN Boards. |

Running two clients at once, Darkness Rising and Catacombs, one sees purple, the other doesn't. Run through the tutorial area again later that day, the purple building is no longer purple but the cauldron is. If the same computer with the same client, the same video card and the same driver with the same up-to-date files sees purple on one occasion and not on another, how is it possible to be a missing texture? From what I've read on the subject it appears to be a video card driver issue, in particular a problem with newer drivers rather than older ones, nVidia to be specific. The problem has only existed for me in the tutorial area. |

I thought there was enough in my post to hint at that, I'm glad someone appreciated it :)
