At this point, I've retreated to text-based games. Found a brilliant one, too.

Which game did you retreat to?

I had this issue.

Tried everything to fix it - the only thing that got rid of it was by changing my OS back to XP..(was using Vista 64 bit)

I'm running XP so it can't be that.  I only had the issue in the tutorial area and the game has been perfect since.

until something is released i consider it just buzz to keep the few thousand players from quitting.

i mean, its the same thing for years now. dangle something to breathe a little life back into it, but never fix anything.

the only way to actually bring people BACK to the game for mmore than 1 month, is to make a fresh, more casual friendly (re: not seeing 30 buffbots stangant as soon as you enter thid) server . it won't make it sell millions but its the only way to breathe life back into the game.

the carrots they are dangling now are just to keep the people around that are already there to keep a little money trickling in on a game they are putting no development money into at all.

True, but you can kill those buff bots.

No you can't kill those buff bots.  They are inside the portal keep and are totally safe from any harm.  As much as I love the game, buffbots were one of the main reasons I left before I decided to join them and have my own bot account.

So basically what you are saying is that the game has reached the point where they need to force everyone to go to one server because the pop is too low to keep the other servers alive?? I dont think most of us consider a forced character transfer a "rebirth".......

Some people have not considered returning to DAOC whose characters are on the Bossiney and Killbury clusters due to their low populations.  Many, like myself, have already rerolled on Devon due to its high population.  With one server on new hardware, even with current numbers, there will be an average peak of 3000 similtaneous players on per day.

This, combined with proposed changes to potions to decrease the difference between buffed and unbuffed players, will attract even more players.  It also means that Mythics overheads are less, and increases the longevity of this great game :)

Thanks for the recap. That sounds pretty good actually. I think I may resub :)

You might want to check this article on the Herald as well www.camelotherald.com/devblog/news_article.php which talks about the supercluster that is being proposed.  Supercluster is a bit of a misnomer, more like a new server that everyone will be moved to - this will mean one server will have 3000+ people on in peak periods.

There is also a system being proposed to give Classic players(Bossiney cluster) ToA bonuses/conversions of equipment.when they transfer.

Note: this will be a forced transfer to the new server Ywain.  It has been discussed by the devs on both Facebook and the VN Boards.

1 - 3 Realm warfare. RvR. Nobody touches this. No Good vs Bad Bs..... 3 realms all out.

2 - Farming mobs still moves the bar. I personally enjoy  farming mobs rather then quest grinding, when in pve. Call me old idc.

3 - Eight in a group. Friggin sweet

4 -  DF is still one of the the best places to roll solo or in a grp.

5 - There are people playing here because they want to be here. Everyone else has been flushed out thanks to many other mmo"s.

6. - My boat, house, horse and gear did not cost an arm and leg .

7 - /level

8 - crafting takes a bit of skill

9 - 50 level cap. Then there is tons to do on a toa or classic server.

10 - did i mention 3 realms?

11 - Thidranki and Molvik and pumping at all hours of the day on the Devon cluster.  That means you can get straight into balanced rvr very quickly and see why this game is such a blast 8  years after its creation!

Edit: Thidranki and Molvik are the level 20-24 and 35-39 battlegrounds, for those who have never played DAOC :)

The Devon cluster is averaging between 2000-3000 players a night. Classic cluster  is pretty much dead now, only a couple hundred a night. Pretty much everyone has re-rolled on Devon because that's where the population is at.

Devon is actually a lot of fun nowadays because of the population spike with all the other cluster players re-rolling on it. You should try it out before giving up on DAOC. I'm a classic player myself who moved to Devon and it's not all that bad.

The good thing about eveyone moving to Devon is that there are a lot of players leveling up now, so you can actually find groups again.

^ That + DAOC is awesome fun :)

It has nothing to do with your card or drivers.  That indicates a building that is missing a texture.  Make sure you are running the latest DAoC graphical client, and try having the game check all files for ubdates when you start.

If I remember right, I had to upgrade to the latest expansion to get that problem fixed.  Ironically, I got tired of the game again almost exactly two weeks after I broke down and bought the expansion.

Running two clients at once, Darkness Rising and Catacombs, one sees purple, the other doesn't.  Run through the tutorial area again later that day, the purple building is no longer purple but the cauldron is.   If the same computer with the same client, the same video card and the same driver with the same up-to-date files sees purple on one occasion and not on another, how is it possible to be a missing texture?  From what I've read on the subject it appears to be a video card driver issue, in particular a problem with newer drivers rather than older ones, nVidia to be specific.

The problem has only existed for me in the tutorial area.

Oh for gods sakes Tarnicus... you have to be kidding. Businesses scrap ideas all the damned time. Even ones they announced to the public. Why is it that some people expect MMO"s to hold to this absolute insane crap they keep talking about but no other business has to?

You people need to get over this instead of taking it as a personal insult.

I think Tarnicus was being sarcastic. I may have been wrong but I cracked up when i read it. Thought is was pretty funny.

I thought there was enough in my post to hint at that, I'm glad someone appreciated it :)

They flat out lied!  How do companies get away with promising their customers and subcriber base something and and not delivering?  Its outrageous to me anyway.

I actually cried into a big man-sized tissue when I heard. This sort of thing really needs to be addressed by current affairs shows and perhaps, if I may be so bold, legislated against so this sort of thing NEVER happens again!

Shame SOE, shame!
