What type of controller will you use for dogfighting?
General Discussion « Jumpgate Evolution 2/10/09 5:26:17 AM
I'll most likely be using a joystick. If I don't have a lot of luck with that (I'm not very skilled with a joystick...I've been practicing for a while on X-Wing, and I'm failing miserably) then I'll move over to my mouse and keyboard. |

I would definitely have to agree. MMO's have turned much more violent and centered around the combat system, but they haven't looked at what a real RPG should feel like. When I look for an MMO, I basically look for an online, multiplayer version of The Elder Scrolls. I want to feel like I actually have a second personality or a second life, not just that it's a hobby or something I enjoy doing. Most MMO's completely lack the feel of an RPG, which makes playing them feel more like a chore than like a game. |

Next thing you know, they'll rename it "High School Musical: Star Wars Version" to get more publicity. |

What's the crappiest graphics you would put up with for gameplay?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/23/08 10:15:54 PM
I think the lowest I would go is probably this Honestly, gameplay is the key to all games. Graphics are nice, but gameplay is better. |

The same people you saw on the tutorial island will, chances are, be the same people you group up with later in your character's journey. Besides, leveling up from 1-20 already only takes a day to accomplish, if not a few hours if you're with a group and know where to go and what to do. 2) The mid-level characters that want to advance more quickly (and get their wish granted) are the same people who are still inexperienced and asking questions in the middle of a raid! The long "grind" that it takes to get from level 30-65 helps you learn a lot about the game, such as how to raid, how to make money, and on and on. Eliminating this process (or, rather, speeding it up) decreases the amount of knowledge these players have about the end-game content, making it harder for the rest of the end-game community to teach these uneducated players the concepts of raiding. 3) This is the only real sensible advantage to this cash shop feature. Players who have already beat most of the game and only want to try another class don't want to read the same old dialog they have already read before. It makes the game a bit more boring. While this is a positive, there is also a negative side. The faster you earn experience, the less time you spend learning about your character and how it functions. A high-level character with awesome gear is no use if you don't know how to use the character (for example, thinking you can tank in a group with a Warden). 4) Lastly, as I've already said, the "grind" is a learning experience, and at the end of the day, you seem to appreciate the long hours you've taken to create such a great character. Increasing your experience triple or quadruplefold doesn't give the same quality of that feeling. |

The most hard-core players are female?!?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/23/08 6:58:16 AM
I'm not surprised at all by this discovery. I've had many female members in my old guilds that were quite loyal to the entire clan, newbie or not. I distinctly remember one that gave away items she had looted from epics every weekend. Females make very good guildmates, that is for sure. Not because they give stuff away or kill griefers for you, but because they actually care in the first place. |

I don't see why they have to advertise in the first place... Everyone who's been looking for a good, free game as much as I have knows that Aeria Games has the ability to create great games. Project Torque is a nice racing game that has a very realistic driving style, as well as pretty good graphics. Last Chaos is an addicting and uniquely crafted MMO. Pi Story has simple graphics, but is a very in-depth game with lots of quests and activities. They make good games, and everyone knows that. The problem is...you just don't advertise in a place where 95% of the people who post there are paying for one or more games made by a "big company". |

This isn't a game where you can pilot a humongously powerful ship and blow people apart. In fact, if you don't know what you're doing, you could get easily destroyed by a small fleet of fighters.
Oh, and by the way...thanks for calling me a genius. But try not to compliment people if you want to insult them.
usually ppl who can't sense sarcasm are diagnosed with mental retardation
I'm sorry, you didn't suggest that you were using sarcasm. Oh, and I'm not the one who's typing without a care in the world for spelling and grammar, so I wouldn't be too retarded. |

I correct myself: The AUG is the best gun to use in all situations if you now how to use it and have a quick eye. |

Duality- Slipknot Yes, I am quite the Maggot. |

It's a good game, I just don't think there's that much to the game. I mean, there's no real point to the leveling system, since the AUG is pretty much the best weapon in all situations. (Literally, I sniped a guy from across the map with that gun, and he had a sniper rifle =/) There's that, and the fact that there are way too many cheaters. Also, there is no real sense of strategy, whoever fires first gets the kill. |

Well, about 4 years ago, when I first started playing MMO's (By MMO's, I pretty much mean RuneScape and Adventure Quest) I wanted a cool-sounding name that would become my "online alias". After spending much time on a fantasy name generator, I decided upon Nalestom. To this day, if you Google "Nalestom", "Nalestorm", and "Nalestrom", all of the accounts on gaming sites and online games were made by me. Nobody else can use my name =) |

P.S. those gigantic ships in EVE are breathtaking . the size and scope of it all.. to bad the game looks boring.. but those are kinda what i had in mind. or the battlestar galactica and pegasus

The only problem with games that would be like that is that people will write guides for the different quests, therefore ruining the concept of the quest system. The only solution I can think for this is to make each quest static (1st quest, you kill 20 Wraiths, and the 2nd quest is randomly chosen, so you might kill 20 Wolves or 20 Large Owls) |

Is anybody actually going to DO anything about it?

Well, the funny thing is that, once you start paying that $5 (or however much they're charging now) you're instantly granted a better community, as many of the immature players aren't paying a dime. Not to say that everybody with a membership is nice, but the community instantly gets better. As for the graphics, they are excellent graphics...because they are programmed in Java! If you can show me one game that is programmed in Java and can be played in your browser, I'd pay you quite a bit. |

Originally posted by Tuss Funny you mention it, as a ton of people have done that. Do you know what happened to them? IP ban. Jagex is handing out offense for creating a protest/riot/march, so that's out of the question. Forum petitions? Deleted. People try, but people continue to fail, because Jagex insists upon letting others know that everything is fine with the game. And seriously? You'd get fired within an instant for trying to convince anyone that this game is going down the deep end. There's nothing you can really do anymore to let Jagex know they've destroyed an excellent game except quit the game and leave it alone. After that, there's no point in beating a dead horse. |

I think that, for the overall health of an MMO, you need to read the quest dialog in order to successfully complete the quest. I mean, during the Middle Ages, when knights were given assignments, they weren't told the exact coordinates where their target was, the topography of the area, familiar landmarks around their, turn-by-turn directions, advice about gear they should wear, and a possible reward. They were given an assignment, and nothing more. If you asked where the target was, they'd point in a random direction. People have gotten LAZY. |

The one thing that really makes me mad about stores like that is WHY they don't replace the broken cosnole with a new one? I mean, they have about 20 boxes of these things on the shelf directly next to their broken brethren, does it really take that much time to switch out the console? And then I just get pissed when the console isn't even on. |

My dad found a good deal on the original Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast on the discount rack in Staples. Costed about $10, which was completely worth it for one of the first Dungeons and Dragons-type games I've ever played. |

I think I'm going to invent a "Red Ring of Death Detector". It's basically like a metal detector, except it detects when a 360 is going to be in the coffin soon. Only thing is, every 3rd 360 it detects makes it go off. Because chances are, all of the detections are correct anyway. |
