I don't think a wipe would fix anything.  In fact it would likely cause another SWG exodus. There are much greater issues in Darkfall than just the differences between vet and new player stat levels, gold and undoing all the AFK Macroing that was used to progress.  My feeling is the game's community is reaping what they sowed, at the fault of semi-effective game mechanics and the gankfest mentality.  When I played Darkfall it seemed like nothing more than a reincarnation of the PK haven timeframe of Ultima Online. Not enough checks or risks were in place to discourage an all-out gankfest or griefing regardless of racial alliance, and not enough emphasis was placed on racial alliance to discourage ARAC clans. As it stands, the only situations that race has any meaningful use is for an unclanned player and in the racial traits.  The game is suffering from its poorly executed social mechanics and some players' poorly judged "fun".

Only those who in a way can't take free for all pvp with full loot, whine endlessly about gank/pk/grief hoping devs will carebear up the game for you.

The gank/pk/grief you mention is a part of the gameplay Darkfall is build around harsh pvp if you can't take that go seek another game.

Btw gank/pk/grief is not as bad as most of you keep trying to convince others here on forum.

 elitism at its finest!

The counter argument is you don't need downtime in a game, you can just stop and chill anytime you want to.

But we all know that's not how MMORPGs are played.

Players will take the most efficient that exists to level their characters.

If that's constant action, they will do that.

If it means going to the Cantina in Star Wars Galaxies and watching someone dance, they'll do that.

"Players will take the most efficient path that exists to level their characters"

That is exactly what has killed MMORPGs and turned them all into "that" game.

"First up is Stonehenge, and the conflict is built on 5-man King-of-the-Hill-style action. Teams accumulate points both by holding the inner ring of the ancient site and by knocking opposing players out of the ring. The Stonehenge instance features quick respawns and fast action, and it requires a certain amount of skill and build knowledge as well as strategic choices on what kinds of builds to bring to the fight.

The second PvP scenario takes place in the Himalayan mountains, specifically the lost city of Shambala. Shambala PvP is The Secret World's answer to ranked arena fighting, with persistent teams matched against similarly skilled opponents in last-man-standing deathmatches."

Instanced pvp... I'll pass.

I think a good blend of instanced as well as open world pvp isnt too bad. The more people you cater to the better imo.

Oh yeah, read the comment under my name. Amen brother. Amen.

If this game is still in the state of the original title it is going to need some major work.  It was not a very good shooter, so no shooter fans stuck around and it was not a complete or full featured MMO so none of those players stuck around either.

The social district is tiny and boring. It needs more depth and A LOT more things to do. It also needs major time spent on the basic systems.. Things like gun balance, hit boxes, movement, interaction, driving. All of it is subpar and gimmicky at best.

Might as well wait for Planetside 2 imo.

I know everyone is different, but... if the baby really was able to tug on your emotional strings like saying " I love you MoMMa (or Dadda) . It would be really hard to hit the delete button. Im currently trying to figure out those key words that really connect us as a spieces. When im done with Virtual Baby the avater wont be a Sim but a part of your soul.  So this is how i plan on the lifetime subs. Who knows im even thinking of having a Virtual college the game (and cash) has no limits!!!

Virtual Baby..... the game of Life.

If parents these days had .0001 of your enthusiasm about real life children, the world would be a far more hospitable place.

"havent been ganked much" is indicator of the games population.

Im curious how many games went from the full price to 9.95 in only their second year.

Get ganked all the time = 'zomg games full of teh griefzorz'.

Don't get ganked all the time = 'zomg teh games dead'.

Oh and it's a limited time offer to celebrate their anniversary. Yeah AV suck for setting up a promo like this...

Dont feed the troll, he obvious dont know what going on in Darkfall.

I'm just amazed that some of these guys are still trolling the game after all of this time. A rare breed these days, but amazing nonetheless.

Its true, I stop in every so often to get a chuckle out of all the fans all congratulating themselves on a game that didnt even live up to its creators' hopes.

Id be suprised if Darkfail eclipsed Hello Kitty's subscription numbers.

And yet you can't name any that has lived up to a dev's hopes.  Even though you're 100% correct.  It's still a bargain while it has many issues $10 isn't going to make/break any of us.

Of course its a bargain, just like lionel richies greatest hits on cassette at your local convenience store. Someones desperately trying to make money on something thats pretty damn unpopular by any means possible.

I just bought the game about three days ago and i'm enjoying it.  I've only been ganked once which is surprising from hearing the pvp that goes on.  Can't hurt to give it a try.  I'm sure most of us have paid $50 on an mmo that was only played for about a month.  $9 isn't much to bitch about.

I got a chuckle when he talked about extroverts embracing the content and bringing everybody together to lead raids, ect. Doesn't he realize that throughout history introverts have often been the most prolific war generals, tactical planners, due to the the bloodflow in the frontal lobe stimulating the ability of internal processing, and planning/problem solving.

 I know right?

This guy would do well to read up on the meyers briggs personality archetypes.

Game must be dieing if they are doing this.

You cannot kill that which is already dead. In spite of the fans repititious claims that "its growing", I guarantee you Tasos&Co arent satisfied with the low subscription numbers, hence the bargin bin sale.

The real question is, if you build a high quality sandbox game w/o FFA PVP will it draw more subs than one that has it?

I think the verdict is still out on that one.

I think we already have the answer to that, the proof being UO at trammel intro, and pre-CU/NGE SWG.

EVE is really the only sandbox that contends those two during their prime with sub numbers, but EVE actually has a good/reasonable security system in place. Much better than say DF, or MO.

I disagree. Back then, the genre had not yet gone mainstream.

As kyleran said: "the verdict is still out on that one."

I don't think that really makes much of a difference... being that the most modern sandboxes, DF, and MO both have relatively low sub numbers and they are FFAPVP. I actually don't think I should even include MO since that's such a bug ridden, incomplete game. But let's just take DF for example then. I don't know DF's sub numbers but I think an estimate of 50k would be pretty generous, which is pretty low.

You guys have a point that there's no modern sandbox without FFAPVP to compare it to but I wouldn't doubt it would be that much different from the past.

There's Xsyon coming up but that's kind of an incomplete game.

There's plenty of proof all over to show that the majority prefers PVE over PVP.

Never trust the majority to have good taste, or make the right decision.

Anyone have any projections on how the population is going to pan out for this game?

I dont not agree, but I'm not sure what specifically that your looking for.

There won't ever be a "how to play the game" tutorial, like you see in games like WoW etc.

This game wants you to have to figure out some stuff on your own. The Quest guy, shows you just about all the basics you need to know up til about level 10. Signet, Eating, weapon skills, etc. If I was a new player, I'd def. be "lost" but in a good way. But thats just me.

There's no excuse for not teaching the basics of a cumbersome interface. The "tutorial" barely covers any of the different menus that are available for one thing. I'm not saying they should tell people "how to play the game" I'm just saying that they should explain, in depth, how to navigate and use the interface, which they clearly don't. It's even more ridiculous for people who use the keyboard setup since the defaults don't seem at all practical.

They also don't tell players about resting, how to cast lots on items versus just using the random system, what the macro codes are for spells, abilities, etc, how to reply to a tell, how to flag yourself LFG (which is still required to even be invited to a group, which never made any sense to me),  how to accept a trade from another player, how to receive your money when an item sells in the AH, and the list goes on and on. These are simple things that I've had to explain to new players time and time again, and it shouldn't be that way. I had a strategy guide when I first started playing, plus I had been playing EQ (which was closely as difficult at the time) so it wasn't a problem for me, but people coming from a game like WoW expect a little more help, and honestly, given how steep the learning curve is of this game, I don't think that's really all that unreasonable. What exactly would it hurt to at least offer an "optional",  more in-depth tutorial to the game? How would that impede upon the current playerbase? Just because we had to do it the hard way doesn't mean it should stay that way. I play games to play them, not to waste time learning how to work the interface to play them correctly.

Edit: To be fair, the moogle in the mog house explains about the delivery box and other stuff within the house, but now that I think about it, I don't believe the tutorial guy even mentions anything about the mog house in the first place, so I can imagine that some new plays may not realize until later on that they even have access to it. I might be wrong about it not being mentioned though.

over repetitivness and the removal of class uniquness by giving the same apells/abilities to all in order to please everyone is what finaly drove me away.

they started with CC, then pets, then self heals, then Dots, bubbles, stunns, AoE, etc, etc  to the point that now pretty much every class plays almost the same. different animatino, different skill name, but same function.

there is no more playstyles and skill, just gear and fotm class. no thanks.

I think thats been the problem with MMOs as of late, every class does everything.

Today was a blast! Literally I played like I was a 20 year old again after getting going today. Lots of good people in the linkshell, and the nostalgia of playhing ffxi from scratch was almost overwhelming!

Guess if you dont mind kickin it with the moms, its good times.

A game that took nearly 10 years and you think somehow you can gloat because only a few thousand people play your game and no body else ever will, let alone deal with a bad community and game developer?

Yup we all feel real burned right now from this topic. You got us! You showed us all up!

 Its mind boggling isnt it?

Ill be in tommorow too, after the marathon download

I wonder if this is related to all the merges theyve had to do.

Velious was probably the most beloved expansion in eq1, and I think maybe theyre using that as a lure.

So I could see why you are suddenly facing queues.

What to play?
