The ship combat is excellent.  I haven't done any PvP yet, but the PvE is a lot of fun.  I don't have much of an opinion about the Avatar combat (which is apparently quite an emotional issue) since I didn't see it before, but I don't think it's too bad at all.  It's seems kind of quirky, and I have a little trouble remembering what the differences are between the different attacks (as long as they do damage, it doesn't seem to matter too much) so it's a bit of a button mash, but I wouldn't say that it's terrible.  The Av combat seems like a very dumbed down version of WoW (and pretty much every other MMO), which to me is ok since it's pretty much just a changeup from the ship combat anyway.  I do really like the fact that you get to do both.   

I'm just started in the economic "stuff" and it seems interesting, but I think it'll take some time to figure out exactly how it works.  The tutorials were really good for getting started, though.  I have a warehouse and a gravel pit!  Not sure where I'm going from there, but I'm looking forward to figuring it out :).

As for population, at first I thought it seemed really thin, but last night there was quite a bit of traffic.  I'm pretty much running solo till I get settled, but I don't think that i'll have trouble finding mates when I decide to do so.  I don't know enough about the economy yet to know if there're enough people to make it spin or not.

I did notice the gold farmers, but it wasn't as unbearable as all that.  A /ignore here and there took care of it.  In fact, as I think about it, there were only two that I noticed and I think it was the same seller with two different bots.  I didn't think that it was any worse than any other MMO that I've ever played (that used currency, anyway).  But maybe I'm just a "glass is half full" kind of guy :).   Maybe the other nations are worse.

All in all, I would recommend this game.  Heck, if nothing else the free trial is worth a download.  I was very pleasantly surprised.  After some of the stuff I read on the forums, I was kind of expecting a ghost town, but it didn't feel that way at all.  A little quiet, I guess, but I'm ok with that.  I think I'm gonna stick around for a bit.

I agree that it was garbage. The forts and such came in after the beta testers protested. The game has changed since then though. I do not understand why they did not see that the RVR thing from Daoc was something to go on. They went for a WoW type game with scenarios.

I play War and i am having fun most of the time but the last minute change of direction did hurt the final product.

Warhammer tried to hard to please. Was a post not long ago that players didn't know what was good for them and i agree. There for i am going to try Darkfall when i get the chans.

The worst thing that can happend is that AV make the same misstakes that they did. I E blame the sub numbers that the game wasent enough WoW'ish and start nerfing everything from death penalty to go there quest dots on the map. Those were on the other hand only in the beginning. Not sure if that was intentional.

Well .. Since the majority of wow players aren't mmo player. I.E interested in other mmos. I won't be supprised if the only game they will give a chans is the next Blizzard mmo.

It will be delayed, the servers will probably crash a few times during the first few days, this is normal.

 

There is a limit to how much we will take, a line where it becomes apparent that this is not working out.

But we are not there yet, far from it, so far this has been a pretty normal launch.

I hate to burst your bubble babe, but:

DF ain't got nothing on those games, and  there are a few/several more I could've nabbed screenshots from that have way longer draw distances than DF.

 

Those screenshots are a good example of what im talking about.

Lets take the top one.

Its obviously from wow, now look at the other side of the lake, it looks completly empty, right? wrong!

That lake has mobs by it, it could even have players there, but we have no idea because the game doesn't show us. And im not even talking about the waterfall on the other side.

If im looking for a rare mob, that mob could EASILY be on both the left and right side this lake, but thanks to a moronicly low draw distance the game will not show us this, u HAVE to go down and check for urself.

 

Same with the shire showing an empty village, there are people there u just cant see em, and AoC ofcourse with the same issue.

Some of them are RPPVP

I have had better experiance with the RP servers. Calmer and less whiny. Sure there are egg heads who roll on them not knowing what they are about and those rolling on it just to piss people off. But if you find a guild or a small group of players theres lots of Roleplaying to be had.

Best RP experiance i've had is still in Lotr.

Well .. If Blizzard created my dream mmo it would twist the world around. Since i'm not that fond of themeparks, it would be a sandbox. The oposite, and by the Blizzard destroys the mmo market would be null and woid. Since big wigs would turn to that.

And ofcoure i would play the (in my mind) best mmo ever !

Playing a Rune priest since release .. Always heard complaint about destro rocking and so on .. Rolled a Shaman, and what do you know ... I manage to find the one sever where order dosen't suck hehe. Still .. a web of friends will win the day. And the grass is always greener.

You missed the point. Scenarios is still a quick buck ... But since RvR is being more rewarding, scenarios fade away. And still can't find PQ's empty.

Have not had time to move into dungeons.

But the scenario sicness has been fixed. More rewarding RVR.

Have never had problems with the PQ thing myself... ever. May just have been lucky. The population has dropped so for Europe there is only a few medium servers. But the smack is always on.

The strange graphic glitching that the characters seem to get stuck in are as bad as they were.

PS. Trying really hard to like the game but can't seem to get into it ... Damn mmos.
