I like the show, and play the game at least once a week on my Defiance Thursday streams.

The game could use something more.

My main problem over the past few weeks is, and I see this in chat when I play, is the server performance. It is crap sometimes. It was horrible 2-3 weeks ago with such terrible lag that npcs were seemingly standing still while you were being hit by invisible npcs. What seemed to be going on was you see the models but the action was still moving around. I also haven't been able to complete my time trials which are a part of the EGO pursuits since the waypoint arches are not appearing before you arrive at them, making you stop and wait up to 30 seconds for them to appear! This is unacceptable for a racing TIME TRIAL!

The side missions are a nice diversion to slow down the pace of the main storyline and sometimes are a requirement to complete an EGO pursuit.

I tried it before the revamp and I tried it now and all I can say is this.
Nice setting,nice art style,nice maps,not bad combat,nice everything but....the content,most of the PvE,is underwhelming,very low quality stuff.
1-ARES missions? The worst quests I've encountered ever. They make WoW questing look like
next gen 2024.What they've done is they replaced the :go to hub>take quests>do the
quests>return to hub, with:go to hub>take quest(1)>do the quest>return to hub>take another quest>return to the location of the previous quest>do the quest>return to hub etc etc.
And not only they are boring, but they are badly executed as well.
2 Everything, from utterly dumb AI,to the way you interact with NPCs that ignore you are there,to a bad ass coms system(SIN) that is not utilized so you have to go talk to the NPC only to have the conversation play through the SIN channel(facepalm),to a nice mass teleportation tech that is also not utilized so you still have to go fetch a dozen crates, each one half as big as you,and then carry them on your back(facepalm 2),to NPC 3d models not matching their model in the coms window,so you talk with a blond guy in the SIN but when you get to meet him he is really not blonde and a bit bold..and who knows..he might not even be a guy really(double facepalm).
3 What can I say.One quest had me go rescue a guy that was in grave danger and the guy was
right there in front of me in the quest hub.Why bother? Why spent even 1 cent of your money to develop such shit?
Game has all those nice technologies, like SIN and Archfolders, that can make questing a fluid and enjoyable experience and it falls back to the worst version of a quest hub system ever made.
4 And it didn't even need all those quests.Just a well written main story line, the campaign missions, and then dynamic events and world PvP.
-Dynamic Events?I'll never ever complain about GW2 DEs.Ever.Just that.
5-Thumping?Nice but it get's old.
-Campaign missions? These are good but too few to make a difference.
It's like the devs did everything but the content and then they called in the janitor
to create the content, and that wasn't even a good janitor.
It all came to a point where I just couldn't keep my brain turned off so I could go on with the questing and I just quit.

Most of this is nitpicking, cosmetic complaining.

I will nitpick your nitpicking:

1. Please differentiate between random ARES missions that appear in static areas, vs the dynamically spawned area job board missions. I hate the term, "hub", as it implies there is only one area like Neverwinter has. If you are talking job board missions, well of course you return to the job board area to get more from that job board. Let me remind people that you are NOT bound to the job board only. As Lemon King once said in a reply tweet to someone complaining, stop hugging the job board.

I will also say that I wish people would stop complaining about the job board missions without explaining what they don't like about them. Explain yourself when you say things such as they are badly executed. Why do you find them boring?

2. They have been working on the AI for a while. Yes sometimes something may just stand there for a few seconds while you shoot it, but sometimes it is also the weapon you are using (tesla rifle for example).

You are also nitpicking about a cosmetic feature with the SIN network and the audio files sounding like going over a radio while you stand in front of an NPC talking.

Arcfolding is explained in the timeline backstory if you care to read it on the website. Generally not safe for unprotected organic transport (hence the shielding on the Arclight). There are the various factions and Chosen which will use it or want to develop it better as you hear in the job stories.

3. Did you notify through /bug about how an NPC you were supposed to protect was apparently right there at the job board with you? Perhaps they need to delve into the code and move the spawn further away.

4. More nitpicking: The campaign mission is the main storyline. Chapter 2 is currently in the works.

5. Thumping is for crafting. Nothing more. They are working on crafting. Just this past Firefall Live yesterday, they stated the designer said that it isn't where they want it to be. If you weren't in beta, then know this: You used to be required to have resources in order to advance your CPU, Power, and Mass constraints individually. Now you have frame levels and level automatically where ever you are. You used to have to go to the garage and use those resources (which btw was 16 resources x 1000 levels of quality EACH) in order to improve your frame.

Remember that Red 5 Studios is not a "large" game studio. They "only" have about 150 total employees, and that includes all the human resources, player support, QA, etc people. The devs may only be about a third to half of that.

With a $160 million licensing deal in China, I do hope "trickle down economics" does help the US and EU side as they stated on FF Live.

right now the problem with the game is population numbers for dynamic events, that are pointless to solo, but provide the most xp and loot.  There simply arent enough people about i have tried most of today to get some events going in Sertao and in the end i have just logged off because its boring standing around waiting for people that arent coming because theres not enough of oyu to do it.

I assume you are talking about the limited time toxic event.

There are so many of them around that it has nothing to do with the population. People are doing them in multiple locations at once.

I think it looks interesting, and the community manager is just *faint*

I've been with them since January 2012 at the beginning of CBT and loved what they were doing with the game. The learning curve was tremendously steep but that was part of the challenge and you ended up being social by asking questions. Once I got around to learning how crafting affected game play with the constraint system a whole new world of possibilities opened up and then started experimenting with load outs and it took up a lot of my time in-game and I found that low level resources were just as valuable as high level resources.

People would come around my thumper and say, "You're so stupid, why are you thumping Q^001 Iron?!" I would just laugh and ask if they wanted in. They would pass then I would hoard up all the Q^001 resources and use them for crafting. Only real crafters can understand the value of a low level resource in FireFalls better crafting system. The problem was that people did not want to take the time to learn it. Even when I give my time to explain not many of them wanted to understand.

I don't know what happened during my time in there but it seemed like there was a mass influx of gamers that needed instant gratification. They set fire to the forums and R5 bent over. Loot drops increased then crafters lost an edge in the market because people were throwing up their loot on the AH at prices crafters couldn't even compete with without taking a loss. More PvE content was pushed out and PvP took a back seat in development. They swore Item decay would stay and the instant gratification gamers began to cry, R5 bent and took it back.

Live came around and they scraped their crafting system, horizontal progression, and a real open world feel by gating sections of the map. New players can't understand what the feeling of FireFalls open world is like because they did not taste it in beta, but the action stayed the same for the most part which is one of the fun parts of it. R5s new revamp on the crafting system and the market is on life support right now due to the Diablo style loot drop system and daily limitation on credits. There is no incentive to craft things because it cost way too much to do. People scramble for loot like rabid animals, so what once was a team effort turned into a solo event because of the ridiculous loot system. I spent $99.00 for 40 days in-game time (of a better version of FireFall), I'm not bitter -- I got my money's worth. This game could have been a Picasso but ended up a smut magazine. I'm just happy that ArcheAge is on the horizon to take up the space on my drive where FireFall used to be.

Having 1000 qualities of one resource x16 resources was just insane. It could have been simplified to maybe stages or 100. Can you imagine the database nightmare behind the scenes when the game would be live with that many qualities of resources and items?

According to Red 5, they had polls and/or feedback that the system was just too complicated. As a BUSINESS, you must weigh in the pros and cons, and the cons obviously out weighed the pros.

Regarding your credit comment: That has nothing to do with the "Diablo style loot drop system".

The limitation is there for the good of the market. You claim to be playing for over 2 years yet can't comprehend that the MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of crystite that beta vets have would be a disaster to the market if left uncontrolled? How would you like to go into an unwiped Archeage where people that really paid to win with founder packs controlled the land, the sea, the air, and the market?

You apparently don't understand that Red 5 had really no core direction and had to straighten themselves out. Starting an e-sports in beta without a core system in place was stupid. PvP is very much still on their minds. Lots of people liked the arena jetball (never tried it myself). The Broken Peninsula is new, and of course further iteration on it and the entire game will come.

As they have said on the forums countless times, and in reviews, they listen to the community and will continue to work to improve the game.

I once said regarding item breakage that they could still keep it but reduce the amount of time it took to break, but instead of doing this they just removed it. Personally I had no problem with it. Not everyone thinks ahead in a game to plan for the future like in Eve Online. Never fly what you can't afford to replace.

Remember also in the patch notes of release or thereabouts, that they said that there currently is not a full fledged loot system in place.

It is amazing how people selectively remember what best supports their view.

And no matter your level, gear, experience and even if you just started a minute ago you could go and participate in anything anywhere without problem. THAT is a great game.

Now it's just a pile a garbage. A pile of grindy garbage just like majority of every other MMO ever created in this universe and in your mom.

Such sadness

How is "leveling up" your CPU, Mass, and Power contraints any different?

You couldn't unlock other advanced frames without maxing that frame out and getting 10 pilot tokens just like it is now.

Not true. You got pilot tokens along the way leveling before and could level multiple frames to a much lower level to get the 10 you needed to to unlock another frame before.

Now you have no choice but to take a frame to max or buy the unlock.

It was however always grindy. you just got to grind anywhere you wanted to instead of the specific part of the zone they force you into now.

I remember having to get to the end before getting a new frame. I know the process was changed a couple times during my beta experience.

Tried it a long time ago in some beta stage of the game. The world was small and entirely empty, although what little there was there, worked and was not too buggy.

Then I remember jumping ship when they 'revamped crafting' into this endless grind of breakable gear that took large amounts of effort to make in an attempt to make the game seem like it had content when in reality all it had was thumping.

That's a while ago. Has the game changed much since then? Edit: I got my answer on the forums. Looks like they completely turned away from sandbox/freeform play and remade it into a typical quest grinder. Going to have to pass.

Once again, just because the job board exists, doesn't mean you must do it all.

It does give some side/back story to the game and characters.

Eve Online didn't start out expansive either. It was quite limited when it began. It too has PVE mission grinds that are purely optional.

[mod edit]

Most of the massive changes were release in release build within early access. So yes, there was no testing period - the changes went directly live.

For the past several months, we’ve been hard at work making sure that Firefall will be ready for this month’s launch. Along the way, we’ve also been listening to your feedback in response to our Path to Launch blogs, as well as feedback and data we’ve gathered from our closed Delta testing.

FYI for past Delta Testers: Your NDA is still in effect. Nothing you experienced on the Delta PTS Server should be posted about in these forums now that they are public and open to everyone. Thanks!

We have a PTS server that went closed for our recent Delta Test, but we do have plans to bring it back for public use and to put builds there before they make it to the live server. Stay tuned!

Inner? It is all public info and fairly common sense - you do not drop a project that cost you so much, you release it in w/e state to just recoup some of the loss you are already taking.

R5 secured 23M at the begining of the year. Considering the brutal changes just prior release and no testing period, you know they really did run out of money and had to release the game asap.

What is so hard to grasp about it?

Yeah, 2 years of reworks are expensive...

The game was released only because so much money was already dumped into the game, and that is something I wouldn't call "returned stronger".

You don't need to have an informed opinion to post negative feed back here. Playing a game 2 years ago in beta is more than enough experience to be a know-it-all about the game.

Someone that only played it two years ago in a closed beta knows nothing about it.

Part of FireFall’s original design also had three corporations – Astrek, Omnidyne and Enermax – that offered equipment, each focusing on a particular stat at the expense of others. Those corporations are still in-game to provide leveling gear, but that’s likely to change.

When was this interview done?

Enermax was never really a big corporation that I remember going back a year in beta. They have signs but it was and still is Kisuton that is the third.

I wonder if these people that call it lackluster have even gone to Devil's Tusk, have participated in Chosen incursions, have participated in the Orbital Communications Tower event, have participated in many of the dynamic events that do not appear on the map, etc.

The amount of attention and oddly positive appraisal  this lackluskter/fail game gets on this site is ridiculous...

I know right? I really liked the idea that gears could totally break in this game and then looked at the cash shop, found out we can avoid that by paying. total fail for me. stopped playing within an hour.

Uh what?

Gear breaking was removed in beta.

You can NOT pay to replace your gear since it NEVER BREAKS.

You ONLY PAY CRYSTITE to repair indefinitely.

Usually patch notes are just a link click away on the launcher anyway.

I still have screen shots from it.

The "crabby" thing was simply a giant hellbug thing with a symbiot creature.

This is nothing new.

I prefer the other arkfall events over hellbug arkfalls.

I complained to Trion in feedback to the email they say to send feedback to (but it makes a tech support ticket, go figure) about the pay wall they block beta weekend people from doing the trade run quest tutorial.

...uh what the hell?! Why force people to have to PAY to try a feature in a TUTORIAL! You are told to make some Solzreed dried meat or something and need grapes.

In order to have grapes you need a grapevine.

In order to have a grapevine you need a farm that allows it.

Not ONE pubic farm allows growing them, nor do the temporary scarecrow farms even allow you to build one despite doing a quest that gives you a certificate to build one. Upon right clicking the paper, you are told not allowed on free accounts.

The game is still in CLOSED status and they are charging people for this?

I logged off and didn't bother with it anymore.

I am guessing the reviewer was referring to the tutorial dungeon which is scripted.

Which side did the reviewer refer to talking about bland? Certainly not Eisenhorst.

Was the reviewer, and the rest of you here, aware of the three options of controls (action, tab, one other don't remember what it is called)?

Apparently the reviewer doesn't keep up on dev news as they have already stated that they do not have systems in place yet to deal with the gold spammers and botters.
