There is a bit more to combat then just DPS.  EWAR is particularly important, as can be logistics/repping depending on your situation.  The single most important part of combat though is positioning and using terrain to your advantage. 

 

The game could use more in the way of specialized bots, and the devs have said that it's on their plate.  It's just a question of when they make it a priority.

Regarding where the sidetrack came from... IMO, it's tough to enjoy a sandbox for any extended length of time if you don't join a corp.  That applies to pretty much any MMO I've ever played.

I know one guy that PvP's relentlessly and dropped his corp due to low activity in his timezone.  He employs different tactics and spends a lot of time looking for the right opporunities, but it can be done.

That said, the game is built for cooperation in combat and crafting but a new dev blog was posted to give current and future players an idea of the direction that the DEV's are moving in.  http://blog.perpetuum-online.com/tag/feature-preview/

I now Balf well, and run with him a bit.  This is the kind of thing I am talking about, any small corp can do what we do on their own and make an impact.   

I'm one of those people who liked Eve a lot, but there was always something missing for me.  I still played for three years and have nothing but praise for the game, but Perpetuum hooked me in ways that Eve didn't. 

 

At the top of my gaming wish list is for CCP to buy out AC, can Dust 514, and make PO the ground component of Eve.  It'll never happen, but man that's something I'd enjoy playing.

More twisting Sadeyx.  I never pointed them out as a  "good example to follow", you said that.  I only pointed out that small corps can accomplish things in this game, which they have done, although one of them was quite dubious.  

While I am in a somewhat larger corp, I am running around unsanctioned on beta in groups of two to four doing very well in T1 fit light bots and assaults purchased off the market with my own nic, as I don't bother to trouble my corp with small bots.  How long does it take to create lights and assaults?  And the mods I'm fitting are farmable from Castels and Troiars on Alpha.

You do NOT need T+ fit mechs to accomplish things in this game, but that of course depends on what your goals are.  If his goal is outpost ownership, then no, he won't achieve that.  If the goal is potentially fun small scale PvP in smaller self produced bots, then yes, that is an achievable goal.  The original poster who asked needs to decide that for him/herself.

Once you have a small quantity of money its very easy to simply purchase the materials off the market using buy orders.  If you read the blog about it they had to even remove vast quantities of buy orders from the market that had been setup by such dispicable corporations.

Its whole reason why the money itself had to be removed, money makes more money and spirals out of control.

 

I'm being neither defensive nor (overly) insulting.  You could not make large scale use of this exploit with a "small quantiy" of money.

To come in and make sweeping claims and pronounce your inaccurate judgements was a bit out of line.  It's also pretty irrelevent to the point I made.  Small Corps can get things done, depending on what it is they want to do.

Oh my God, I never claimed that they “only “ PvP’d.  You are jumping to conclusions and making absurd statements about something that you don’t seem to comprehend at all.  Do you even understand what the exploit was?  To partake in the exploit means that they first had to do all of the things that you’re saying a small group can’t do.

The people that were named by the devs as having hideously abused the insurance fraud exploit?

Of course they were relentless they didnt have to mine, farm cash, haul or build their own bots like everyone else.  They just exploited.  All that was left for them to do was to get their excessive amount of free bots blown up for even more insurance.

Not completely accurate.  They were named in the incident, but the level to which they were accused is not what I would call hideous.  That is also irrelevent to the point being made, which was that you can't do anything without a large team.  They don't have a large team, and they've managed to do much.

I'm going to disagree here too.   My Corp is red to every beta alliance, I PvP daily and most certainly do not sit at a gate, ever.  I also do not focus my attacks on miners, though I won't pass them up when the opportunity arises.

To sample all the game has to offer you’re correct that a large Corp is essential, but there is a lot of small scale fun to be had.

That is completely false.  Using a dupe bug as a generic example, once identified anyone can do it, yet some resist the temptation.  My Corp knew from day one that we could make loads of money doing this, yet all but one now former member avoided it. 

I'm pretty sure Paypal offers some kind of deal that you pay directly through them with a credit card, and not have to have an account with a balance.  I don't know if that's acceptable to you, but I know corpmates who have done it and it seemed pretty quick and painless. 

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think so Dol.  They have added Moneybrokers as a second option, but afaik that and Paypal are still the only choices.

Oh no, I don’t ever throw names like carebear out there.  You mentioned the game not being good for casual mining types, and I was pointing out the thread further down the page with carebear in the title. 
 
I don’t say that your ideas about items are wrong either, only that I like it just as it is.  I do take a bit of issue with your EP thoughts, but again, it’s a difference of opinion.  I might have been doing it wrong, but farming on alpha I didn’t find a huge discrepancy in income between my miner and my combat toon.  If anything I felt like I was doing better on my miner, but granted that’s in a Termis, which I don’t know if you ever piloted. 
 
The only content that I feel is significantly lacking is PvE-missioning.  I’m enjoying everything else, but I am in a large corp that holds an outpost on beta.
I don’t quite get some of your remarks in regards to mining.  Did switching from Ark to Bist give you the feeling that the routine was changing up?  I prefer the PO way, as I know where to find what it is that I need. 
 
Your perception that you need a huge group to mine on beta is not correct, though you do need to be welcomed by the alliances that control the islands.  The other night with one friend (both of us have two accounts) we mined quite safely on beta. 
 
Your issue with EP being account specific is also somewhat odd to me, as I’m not aware of any game that allows you to level two characters on the same account simultaneously. 
 
Now, as far as your opinion regarding missions, I’d have to say that you’re spot on.  That particular area needs a lot of work.  Missions are not my cup of tea, but for the long term health of the game I’d have to agree that the system needs some serious improvements. 
 
With item selection, what you say is pretty much true, but in a PvP focused game I have to say that I like it that way.  I do not under any circumstances want battles to be decided by equipment, so this system works well for me.  Different strokes for different folks.
 
Your view of outpost sieges is sometimes true and other times not.  I’ve been to very dull ones, and some very exciting ones. 
 
At this time “end game” is territorial control and corporate warfare, and though many areas of the game do need work, for the most part I’m enjoying it.  Your opinions are your own and with one exception I’m not here to say that you are wrong, but at the end of the day PO will appeal to some and not to others.  If I were looking for a game to play casually and solo I couldn’t see this one being it, though if you read the thread titled “A Carebear’s first look at Perpetuum” some people feel differently.  With a price of entry under $10 though, it’s still imo worthy of a look.

I'm out on beta every night, and there's not been any real shortage of PvP.  For a variety of reasons it's not always the best PvP, but there has been plenty.  The French alliance has been particularly active the past few days.
