It may actually be more difficult than you think. Numerous recent studies (soory too lazy to track em down) show the difficulty the human brain has with multitasking (and of course some do it better than others). Many-most car acciendts (pre cell phone era) happened when folks where talking and driving. Active languge processing and output takes a big toll on active human memory (think of it like RAM for the brain). In an MMO you are moving your character, pressing keys and often times either reading and writing text or speaking/listening or all of those things. Add to this the possibility of background noise /interruption going on in the real world and  it's not suprising that some people simply cannot function well in MMOs. Now this is not to say that on an anicdotal level I don't agree with the OP to some extent but playing an MMo is much more complex than a normal video game due to the multi-tasking.

while I agree that it's more complex than other tasks in life, it's still not difficult. And while yes, my post oversimplified, there was a purpose to this. I can make breathing sound more difficult than it really is by analyzing every aspect of it as well, but there is not point because breathing isn't difficult.

Actually there's a good deal of psycholingustic research out there which shows how taxing real time language is on the human brain. Add the possibility of two different modes written/spoken and both productive and receptive language and it is quite a bit. Also spatial cognition and hand-eye coord could be contributing factors.  Now what would be interesting would be to collect data on MMO players with language and eye-tracking and heck throw in an electroencephlogram for fun and see which factors contribute most to negative performance. Though considering how may people are "successful" for the most part in playing MMOs, yeah you could still argue that it's not that hard for many folks. Real time problem solving and social skills when trouble happens or when one player messes up are also possible factors. One thing I might argue with WoW in particular though would be that due to the new dungeon match system less and less communication takes place in the game, making it less tasking, however more difficult when a bad pull happens. Then again without any data here just kinda guessing =)

I hope you don't think that I'm saying the process involved isn't extremely complex. I completely agree that it is. I'm just saying that compared to what my brain is capable of doing the process of being successful in MMO's on the whole is extremely simple.

I would like to see a study done on just how many people are successful at these things and the primary factors that lead to them failing. Then analysis of what factors lead to failure and why. Then I would like the same study to be replicated but with all outside factors eliminated to the best of testing ability. Then a comparison of the data to be done.

Oh aren't you special, and extraordinarily intelligent! You can play an MMORPG, and you aren't bad?! Way to go champ your brimming intelligence in video games is surely contributing to society and fixing the world's problems, good thing all the stupid people drooling all over themselves trying to figure out MMOs have you!! Seriously what is the point of making a post specifically to say that you're so smart, and other people are dumb? And over PLAYING A VIDEO GAME of all things. You aren't even bragging about accomplishing anything useful.

But since you are so proud and high and mighty about your elite brain power in World of Warcraft, I'd love to see your character sheet and see what challenging feats you have overcome... you know like hard modes in raids, your high arena rating, whatever.

Runes of Magic is very similar to WoW and free to play.. if you try it out you should get the big summer giveaway key from this website that gives you some really neat stuff.

There are a ton of free games out there like WoW, I'm not quite sure what runescape is like since I didn't get past the tutorial.

I tried to go back recently, just couldn't do it. Would only play if it was to help someone out or something like that. I've been playing for years and years though.

First as far as Vanguard goes, its worth at least a trial but its a game that isnt going to progress anymore than it already has. I refuse to start another game that is run by SoE because they kill everything they touch. I have been reading plenty of good things about vanguard but leveling has always been a bit of a grind in that game ever since it came out, whether it be fun or not.... As far as DDO is concerned, it going to F2P is a killer for me because I just find most games that go to F2P go downhill with having an influx of terrible players and communities going to hell in a hand basket. I played DDO when it was still P2P but I quit because finding groups to level can become a pain in the butt, maybe not now with being free but the game was still fairly challenging and without people who knew how to play it could be a major pain to make it through some dungeons. Especially if you are new and have no one to show you the ropes.

Everything is worth a shot I guess at least. Do some research and do some trials until you find what will suit you :D

Well the way I see it, there's a ton of things to do in Vanguard already, so it's worth trying it for those things, and if it really is going to be killed then even more reason to try it before it's gone in my opinion... but I dunno if I believe that it's going to die since it's been alive for so long and it's pretty active now with the server merge.

And DDO it is fairly easy to get groups and everything, but as much as I love the dungeons in that game I don't want to play since that's pretty much the only thing to do... no exploring in a world even.

Well WoW is one of the quickest to level up and reach end game, and it has a good end game for sure. I can't really recommend anything since I don't know about many other games "end game" like I do World of Warcrafts, BUT I've recently been playing the trials for both Fallen Earth and Vanguard, and I am loving them both because the leveling process is actually fun (so far).

In Fallen Earth you get a mount right away, you have to actually aim to use attacks, there are tons of in game jokes, the post apocalyptic setting is awesome, there is crafting for like everything, community is very helpful.

Vanguard is like everything I wished WoW would have been. The world is non-instanced, huge, and gorgeous. Other than just the normal quests where you go and kill and collect stuff for leveling you can also do diplomacy which is like a card game against NPCs and you can win things with that and unveil stories, and there is the crafting system, which is one of the best I've played and it's pretty fun. There are a ton of dungeons to explore and group together and play with people, most of the community I've dealt with so far has been very helpful and friendly. There is a large selection of races and classes to choose that all feel pretty unique from each other, and are pretty awesome if you ask me (like necromancer gets a minion and can use body parts to put on the minion.) The game allows you to build a house in the game world, build your own boat and sail around the world, ride on ground mounts and flying mounts. I could go on.. lol.

SO TLDR.. I would recommend Fallen Earth or Vanguard to at least try the trials, because these games are fun to play while leveling, and I think that's the most important thing you can get from a game. But to be honest if you are more interested in PvP I don't know how much you would enjoy either game... personally if I want pvp I play league of legends or a shooting game.

I actually payed to play this one for a little while and spent some money on it, and I usually absolutely hate that type of combat in other games, but tolerated it in this one because it is timed I guess. Before I quit I just felt like it was too grindy, and I was beginning to get bored of the game.

Honestly, if the premise of a post-apocolyptic world interests you at all, then by all means, give this game a shot. I played it Beta and early launch.. Yes it was very buggy. Recently my guild moved from Age of Conan to Falllen Earth and we are having a blast. This is one of the few games out on the market that reminds of pre-SOE SWG. It's a diamond in the rough.

Don't listen to the nay-sayers, try it yourself.

Erm sorry to ruin your post mate but SOE have always been developing SWG

You mean PRE CU SWG right?

And yes fallen earth is much better now apart from the fact we STILL have no player towns or housing

Was that promised to players? Just curious - I really like fallen earth, but I haven't followed it much.

I love jumping, and for a while there I couldn't even stand to play a game if my character couldn't jump.. but I can deal with it now. It always makes me happy when I can jump in a game though.

I'm in the trial right now and loving it. The world is gorgeous, the classes are varied and interesting, the diplomacy and crafting systems bring in much needed variety to this type of MMO, and are a ton of fun as well. So far it seems like a very fun and relaxing game to play. I've even role played a little bit with some people for fun =) I'm seriously considering subbing to either this game or fallen earth... I'm leaning toward Vanguard at the moment though. I would love to have a flying mount, a boat, and a house (= This game is like everything I always wanted WoW to be. .

Pretty sure it's spam, I get emails like that all the time now, and I was playing WoW while getting those messages, and nothing had been done to my account as far as I could tell (all my characters were completely in tact).

I would join you if you bought me a month of WoW time lol, but anyway I just wanted to recommend the druid class, because I think it's the most fun and you can be a very competent healer, tank, or DPS end game, even all three at once if you prefer. The only downside is if you want to go in multiple directions you need a lot of space for all the gear. If you have played other MMOs this one is very, very easy to get used to.

Oh yeah I found a fix for my specific brand of computer last night, it had something to do with the fan speeds or voltage or something I'm not quite sure, but anyway no more overheating!! *cheer* Played a match of alien swarm last night completely lag free, it was beautiful.

I'm enjoying the game a lot so far, just started the trial.. (servers are down as I'm typing this though Q_Q) I adore how helpful everyone is... I have already learned a lot as a noob from the help of the GMs and players.. only thing I'm annoyed about as a newbie so far is the amount of time it takes to craft. Now I have only crafted one item so far, but it took 2 minutes for the one item. I don't know if it takes longer the more items you craft or what, but not a fan of tabbing out to do something else while crafting, personally.

You do know that your crafting will continue while you get on with doing something else in the game? No need to wait, get your crafting queue set up and carry on questing.

Ah hah! I didn't know that! That turns my frustration upside down and inside out, I *love* that concept!

So I guess I love this game, just hoping that I will be able to group up with other people to do things in this game, because one of the biggest complaints I've heard was that the game ended up feeling like a solo player game?

I watch my boyfriend play this all the time (he's on his second play through or whatever) and it looks like a really good game, and it honestly doesn't look super duper hard like everyone says it is, but I can see that it certainly has some difficulty. Haven't played it yet, but plan on trying it soon.

Edit: Dude in the game this cut scene happened, and he got summoned and now he is playing as a boss and waiting for another to player to come and fight him, how sick is that?

Yeah i done that, in world 3 if you try to join a co op game it can put you in as the boss of the level, i ended up beating the player and won the Monks Headwrap item which is very good for magic users!

Its not so much a difficult game like people have said but when you die going back to the very start of the level can be infuriating, especially if you die fighting the boss.

Yeah that seems to be the biggest part of the difficulty in my eyes, is that every time you die you lose so much and have to work so hard to get back to where you were before. Still looks like a good game to me though (=

Are any other Hunters leaving over the changes / loss of mana in cataclysm ?

I and my girlfriend have both canceled over the fact were going to basically get the same system a class we hate to play ( rogue) gets.

We're both rather upset at the " Too bad we're doing it, you'll love it cause we say so " approach they took with it.

We also found it pointless to post on the official WOW forums as any discussion of the idea was promptly shouted down by the rabid fanboi element.

Is any one else upset with this ? we miss our friends, but this made anything we did seem usless cause it was all changing anyway.

Hunters aren't spell casters so mana never made sense.  I'm glad they're fixing it.

Also, since you've already categoriezed everyone into two labels  1. Those that agree with you  and  2. WoW fanbois, you probably aren't going to care what I think anyways since you already have me figured out apparently.

^^ That.

And personally, I tried to play a hunter like 5 times in my wow career. I can't make it past level 30 without being extremely bored. I know everyone uses macros as a hunter, but I didn't and was still bored. I desperately wanted it to be my DPS class since I love the idea of pet companions fighting along side you, but I just couldn't get into it! If I do try Cataclysm I hope they make hunter more entertaining for me somehow.

$60 for Aion when it came out and didn't end up playing past the first month - Although I enjoyed the time I played I didn't feel like it was worth that much money.

$25 x 2 ($50) for the last two times I tried to play WoW again. Transferred my main to two different real life friends servers, and only played a week or two on either server.

Other then that I try my best to research the game as much as possible, play in the beta stage (yes I do it for a preview of the game, but I do my share of bug reporting as well), wait for free trials, let friends buy me the games, etc. before I make purchases. I was so excited about Aion, and heard all these good things (even for a little while after launch)... well lesson learned!

I very much enjoy the teamwork aspect of this game. I'm hoping to get three of my friends into it so we can all play. I like the tech the best thus far, and so far I'm always running around hacking doors and welding/cutting barriers. I'm torn between carrying a main weapon and either extra ammo for the squad or a sentry gun. Extra ammo is always nice, but I do love me some sentry gun.

I figured out a way to cool down my grphx card so I've been playing =) The tech is a ton of fun, but I'm stuck being a healer as usual =) My name on steam is aeroangel if anyone wants to group up and kill some aliens.

Glad to hear you figured out the issue with your graphics card. I was having an issue a few months back where Source engine games would constantly overheat my card constantly. Finally got it resolved, thankfully.

I'll throw you an add on Steam later. Been wanting to kill Aliens with someone other than randoms and all my Steam friends have full games, can't connect to me, or don't want to play when I want to :(

Hmm how did you get it resolved? I'm very curious. I've just rigged up a fan to cool my card and it helps, but it does seem like steam likes to make my card all hot and bothered. lol

At first I actually just took the side of my case off and hooked up a small fan, which helped it bunch. Not long after an update was released by ATI for my card. Installing the driver initially didn't fix it completely, tho, had to mess around in Catalyst for a little bit to get it completely situated.

Well I've tried pretty much all that except I have a Nvidia.. Thanks for the tips anyway, guess I'm just going to have to wait until I get a new computer to have a carefree gaming experience lol.

You live with your mom in pokemon at least that's like your real life. lol I'm so joking sorry just had to do it. ^^

I don't know a game that fits your requirements, but I'm interested as well.

I signed in on mozilla firefox (didn't work on google chrome) and it said I was selected. It doesn't start until August 10th though apparently.
