Since announcement of the new expansion it seems like everyone has been up in arms over this one tiny detail: Pandas... as a playable race (Oh no! could it be?)
Now having gone through and read many of the threads created, and comments related to this issue both out of entertainment and sheer amazement that such a fuss is being created over something I personally deem to be so insignificant I have to ask myself if some of the people overreacting are insecure. Whether they are insecure about their masculinity, lifestyle, etc. who knows? But I want some of you to take a serious look at yourself and ask yourself: Am I burning with hatred toward pandaren in the new expansion, because I am insecure about something?
If the answer is YES then my advice is to try and put more value into yourself as a human being, and stop letting other people dictate what you are supposed to enjoy, or how you are supposed to act, etc. Confidence in yourself will not only alleviate problems such as overreacting to something trivial as pandas in a video game, but for an abundance of other problems, and will help you to succeed in life.
Consider this scenario: You and some co-workers are chatting, and you discover that "Dave" enjoys playing Hello Kitty Online. Instantly everyone starts laughing and poking fun at Dave over this fact. What happens if he reacts extremely embarassed, hurt, or angry about everyone making fun of this harmless hobby Dave has? Everyone can tell he is insecure about the issue, and that will only make matters worse for Dave as they will either berate him more about the issue, change the way they treat him so they don't offend his sensibilites, or they will think of him as being weird. Now what happens if Dave completely owns it, and acts nonchalant about playing Hello Kitty Online? They might continue to joke with him about it, but they will respect him for standing up for himself.
And I'm not going to go on a tangent explaining why having a good relationship with co-workers is beneficial, but this is just one of the many examples where having confidence in yourself is one of the most valuable assets in life.
Now if your answer is a definite NO then disregard the former if you wish. Whether you have some odd reason of hating pandas, or you feel like the game has gone too far into the cute zone because of a panda race (although even in Vanilla it was pretty darn cute in my opinion... just look at gnomes for pete's sake) I will invite you to entertain the notion of a few options:
- Cancel your account e.g. vote with your wallet
- Resent the pandas and World of Warcraft silently.
- Contribute to one of the many other anti-Panda/anti-WoW threads already here before creating a new one.
Can someone just give the pandas, the pokemon, or whatever else a break? If you don't like it don't do it.
Thanks for your time!

Think about it before you do it, because you all know that Blizzard will suck every dime they can from you, they have been doing it for the past number of years and they wont stop, as they know you all like things for free.  *cough*

You just described any capitalistic company around the world.

Which basically covers all game publishers.

So which game publisher is offering me a game thats not realeased yet for free If I take out a 12 month sub?

Did you see the pla... nope, missed it.

Whether you agree with my post or not you have contributed so much constructive feedback.  The Blizzard deal will suit a minority of people I have no doubts about that, but a lot of people wont do the sums and will get drawn into the "but I get D3 free and a mount" scenario.  And as I have mentioned earlier, some things are not what they seem,  Have you not seen Walmarts buy 2 get 1 free?  most of them work out more expensive than buying 2 seperately, or buy 2 for $1 but they retail at 50c each? but people still fall for it.

Being closed minded and defending Blizzard for everything they do is nothing short of being stupid.

Well being a frequent shopper of walmart, I can say that most of the time the "buy two get one free" type deals (which are almost always manufacturer related, not issued by walmart), are actually decent deals most of the time. But a funny thing to note when you see signs there like "2 for $5" it doesn't mean you are getting a discount price for purchasing at least two, it just means each item is $2.50. Little technique they have to make more sales and make something seem cheaper than it really is.

Anywho. Some people like WoW, so what if they decide to sign up for an annual thing if they planned on playing for 12 months anyway? If there's some added benefit to doing something they already were going to do why not take advantage of it?

I honestly know I won't take full advantage of my game time, since I work full time and have a lot of other things on my plate, but the $15 a month is plenty worth even the couple hours a week I might play (I'll probably play more, but sometimes I might not feel like it!) and it's so not a big deal. I can piss away far more than $15 bucks in one hour of my free time so it will probably save me money there, plus it's a nice little payment to throw on one of the ol' credit cards that can easily be payed off each month, thus raising my credit rating.

Now some cell phone companies I'd say they're even worse. Right now I have boost and have my little android phone that cost me $180 bucks up front (but I own it) and pay $50 a month for unlimited everything. The most comparable thing from a contract would be sprint for about $80 a month, ($30 more per month give or take). So I figure one of the benefits to a contract plan is that you get a high tech phone for the cost. So the phone I looked at is $200 up front with the two year contract, and it supposedly retails at $600.

$200 + (30*24) = $920. That's over $300 extra! At least the WoW annual thing isn't making you pay extra for something you are already getting, they are actually giving you something for free (if you already play or plan on playing WoW for a year).

Contract plans can be appealing, sensible, logical, etc. for certain people. On the other hand paying more up front for a discounted price can also be better for some. I personally like having the option, and at least Blizzard gives one this option. And if that's all they are charging for a quality game I'll take it, because I know of some terrible, terrible F2P mmos that cost much more to be competitive in.

OP couldn't be more wrong in what he states as the Subject of the thread.

Blizzard has injected humour at just about every turn in the game.  I believe comic relief is one of the core design aspects of the game and it's quests/stories.  Spending 10 minutes doing quests would have told you that.

Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

This 100%. I personally enjoy the comic relief, but everyone is a critic. Why everyone is so up in arms over panda people is beyond me, I thought most people liked pandas? I couldn't care less either way, but I know for a fact that people have been asking for the pandaren for ever, so good for them that they are getting what they want I say. If it bothers you that much just don't play the game. I don't see how it's so out of line what with being able to play gnomes, elves, cows, space-goat-alien-things, etc. Sheesh!

I'm more intrigued by the monk class personally, but a little worried that in the end it will feel like all the other classes after a while. Only time shall tell!

Well lately I've been itching to play some kind of MMO, and having gone through my whole "download X mmo and try it out, get bored 5 mintues later" phase I thought this would be a fine deal. If you are strictly interested in Diablo III, and not WoW at all it's certainly NOT a fine deal. 12 months of subscription time adds up to $180 (and I'm guessing the game retails at $60, so that's 3 times the price).

But the way I look at it personally, it's basically like I'm spending 10 bucks a month on a game that I at least know can satisfy my occasional MMO scratch, and now I have the digital download for Diablo III paid for and lined up waiting to go! Not to mention the bonus of the beta test for the new expac (which might save me money from not purchasing that when it comes out if it's not what I want) and the mount is kind of cool don't really care about that, but whatev.

Now I'm downloading it yet again, and thinking of the possible ways I can entertain myself in the game. I usually try to think outside of the box with it even though it tries hard to be a linear themepark. I enjoy RP servers, because other than the whole roleplaying aspect, there are also quests and adventures we make up on our own, and more focus on exploration and unique challenges. I can also make some PvP twinks on the PvP servers, maybe host a silly lvl 1 hogger raid (or whatever the equivalent today is), find some good in game lore to chew on, etc.

The only MMO I'm definitely looking forward to is GW2, so as long as it really doesn't have a sub... might as well sub to this I thought. Free Diablo III, and beta access to the new expansion. I had a lot of fun in previous WoW beta tests, and I'm an adult that like pokemon (so what?). I'm sick to death of the game, but I'm sure I can find a way to entertain myself here and there.

I couldn't get into it enough to give a decent review. The auto run to quest hubs and npcs was an instant turn off. The animations and moves were incredibly dull and played out, the text was lifeless, etc. I actually like Eden Eternal despite it having auto run, but it's just so darn pretty and at least it has a tiny bit of character, interesting animations, and a couple other things I like.

When it comes to PWE games I would prefer Perfect World Online or Battle of Immortals. BoI is pretty neat, but became boring to me after not too long. PWO is pretty, with flying, cool character interactions, and very relaxing music, but also becomes boring quickly with dull animations auto run to quest hubs, etc.

This is terrible. Aion lost it's art style completely.

It used to be okay in the start...

But then came the cash shop items and stupid costumes (bunnies, flowers, idiotic pets) and now a whole different style for the houses. You have to be female or -12 year old to like this, and even then I guess allot would still puke from it.

I'm happy I left the game before Aion 1.5. I used to be one of the best Clerics on my server, leagion leader and organising big zegs in the Abyss... never looked back with regret of leaving.

Soo you have to be negative 12 years old or a female to like the game? I guess you're saying that you have to be a sperm, and that females have the same taste in video games as sperm? Fantastic.

On topic: I'm usually one that begs and pleads for player housing in games, but if the game is no good then I have no desire to spend my time making a house in said game. Runes of Magic and several other MMOs have player housing, but if you aren't immersed in the game and wanting to really make the house your home, and share it with the community in that game then what's the point? If you just want to decorate a house might as well play The Sims or use an interior design program.

I played Aion when it was released for a bit... fantastic little journey (er other than the gold spammers and such) to the mid 20's then the grind and repetitive questing started and the appeal of the abyss and such didn't even make up for it. I don't think player housing will make the game any more bearable (ESPECIALLY considering that this game is play to win now?) but I might resub to try the game out until GW2 comes along... more because I want to see what has become of it, I doubt I'll enjoy it more than I did before I decided to quit.

Thanks OP looks pretty interesting! I'll keep my eyes on this one (that is if GW2 doesn't get them all to itself :P)

This guy is a douche bag, first he spent the whole article asking about totally uninteresting details, second those details are so irrevelant in the whole picture of an mmo, it is ridiculous. Vo shouldn't be such a concern for some mmo and even less an obsession. Mmos have quiet  a good package of obsessions to deal with, without adding some irrevelent ones to it. And as other people said it is clear this guy is just a snake and is only looking to promote his beloved Swtor, and actually don't give a shit about the game he is intervewing.

But even those kind of douche bag can have thier positive side, and if Anet can improve such ridiculous aspects of gaming why not? But it was certainly a total waste of our time, for us readers.

Wait I thought he was putting SWTOR down to further support GW2? Now I'm confused.

"Tap: I ventured over to the Star Wars: The Old Republic booth after spending a great deal of time in Guild Wars 2. The games cutscenes are brilliant and of those I saw, flawlessly acted. Are you confident your new technology will be able to bring the game up to that level?"

^ That's the only mention of SWTOR in the interview that I saw, Distopia

Anyway I have mixed feelings on what you are saying Requiamer. On the one hand I honestly don't care too much about voice acting as I prefer reading and imagining things more anyway, but if they are putting it in the game they might as well make it decent as to keep you immersed in the story. I know Oblivion is a single player game and many have mixed feelings on it, but could you imagine playing that game with the voice acting and facial movement that has been seen in the GW2 videos? I think most people would either be too pissed off and annoyed to get into it, or they would be laughing so hard they couldn't pay attention.

I have been more excited about GW2 since hearing about it than any other game honestly, but when I saw the videos of it on youtube thus far, I was a bit disappointed by what I saw. Maybe I didn't watch the right ones I don't know. A lot of it does look awesome, but some of it really had some extremely shite cutscenes/voice acting, and I was thrilled to see that you could dodge attacks and such, but where was the enviromental attacks like throwing boulders, turning into a tornado, and classes cooperating to form special moves, and all that? It mostly looked like the same old, not entirely complaining because I do appreciate GW1's system of only being able to use a set amount of moves, and that's cool.

And although I'll be purchasing this title pretty much no matter what out of the gate, and if it's even half way decent I'm sure it will be better than most mmos around right now, I'll still be pretty steamed if they make all these grandous promises and completely fail to deliver or change them. They've been so quiet about the whole thing until recently - there's absolutely no reason to make up things when they are getting somewhat close to delivering. There are plenty of sales-worthy qualities as it stands I'm sure.

Me, I prefer if GW2 will be large enough to get steady expansions (unlike VG) but not large enough to get every kid into it.

Competition is good, it forces the devs to make the games better instead of preserving the status qou.

This, this, this! A thousand times this!

Speaking of Vanguard I really loved it, but it's pretty much a desolate wasteland of wasted potential these days (last time I checked anyway). So to get a game that I like that isn't super mega populated, but enough to get love and attention from devs, and obviously people to play with would be a blessing.

I swear up and down ever since WoW came out every game with any sort of hype that has followed has met the "will/will not kill WoW" opinion.

Seriously who gives a fudge? All I know is that I'm sick and tired of playing WoW. It's a great game and all (although I enjoyed playing WoW back in the day more than present, and idgaf what anyone says about nostalgia, I know what I like and what I don't like in games grr).

Anyway! I don't care if WoW stays king of the hill or not, but I am very excited about GW2, I'm hoping and praying that it will somewhat live up to it's expectations and be at least a game that's fun and different, but if it's not oh well. Have been through that disappointment about a thousand times with games these days.

Seriously if game developers want to make good games all they have to do is remake an old game with slightly polished graphics, but maybe the mass audience just doesn't appreciate what I do? I dunno. I'd like to think a game can be equally fun and appealing to the average gamer, with enough depth and variety for the hard core.

Yeah, i think they are. What do you think?

Does this question really need to be asked? I hate to sound brash, but do you have no social life away from the computer screen?

People (and GIRLS can actually be considered people too) of all different shapes, sizes, varieties, colors, etc. do all sorts of different things. So chances are there are just as many females one might consider "hot" that play MMOs as ones they consider ugly.

I don't have any statistics related to the subject, and I really hope there aren't any, but based on anecdotal evidence I can tell you this. I'm a female gamer, and as such I mostly associate with other humans who play video games - generally other females. I know just as many girls that could probably qualify to be a model as girls I personally think are butt a** ugly, but most of the girls I know who play MMOs I consider to be average looking like myself. And I get hit on enough to reckon that someone must genuinely think I'm hot, even though I don't have a perfect body, flawless skin, etc. (yay make up and clothes?)

BUT if you mean "hot" as in attraction to someone in that context, versus aesthetic appeal, then it's clearly up to the individual and I ranted and raved for nothing. Personally I think it's pretty hot when guy or girl plays MMO's, because it usually means we have more in common and they have more under the hood than your average FPS/sports gamer (based on my experience) and I think knowledge is far sexier than aesthetics alone unless you just want a booty call then none of that sh** matters.

Don't know too much about the man other than his achievements, and for that he will be missed. RIP Steve Jobs!

I don't own any apple products, seeing as they are terribly overpriced, but I have used/owned them in the past and appreciate them - and moreso I appreciate his innovations in software design and hardware (that inspired simiilar reasonably priced products >.> lol)

Well... I trialed WoW for something around 5 minutes and just though "No..." and honestly...I stopped expecting story from MMOs after I left FFXI and XIV didn't turn out too hot (prays it will someday improve) Rift sees like a good choice so far.

Didn't read this far. You didn't think that WoW had a story? I think it actually has a pretty decent fleshed out story.

I' m having a lot of fun with Guild Wars... very burnt out on all the other major MMOs (and most F2P ones for that matter). It's kind of the same as everything else, but it's different enough to be exciting and challenging to me :) Not to mention that it's a game of high quality.

I was considering resubbing to Aion, but changed my mind after hearing about pay 2 win, which wouldn't bother me if there wasn't a subscription fee as well -.- And I still have that crippling fear that it is as grindy as last time I played. But I did enjoy the flying and surprsingly the crafting to an extent (despite the RNG) and other aspects of the game. I tried Rift during open beta and could not get into it for some reason, but everyone else seems to think it's the bee's knees!

WoW has been my drug of choice off and on for years, but these days I can hardly stomach it for more than a moment or two, but if you somehow haven't played it I would recommend it (especially since they have the extended free trial now).

What happens to this thread if we get to 10,000 before gw2?

I just wonder if they've improved the 3rd person view of combat. I dont like 1st person myself. From what i've seen of the combat they try to keep it in 1st person.

Actually there's a video on the developer blog that specifically talks about how they improved the animations and such for 3rd person view, and it does look *much* better.

I prefer 1st person view myself, and I heard about one possible draw back is that you will be forced into 3rd person view for certain finishing moves.

I've been extremely excited about the game, but at the same time I'm a bit weary that it will turn out like new vegas or the like. I'll most likely buy it right out of the gate though... cannot be worse than the newest final fantasy game!

I'm giving this game a go so I might join, what is your in game name?

If you want to raid you get in a guild. It's as simple as that, and it's pretty much always been as simple as that. Pugs generally look for people that severely over gear an instance, because it's a PuG! You have less chance of having someone in all greens with a bad spec who has never stepped foot in a raid or whatever when you look for a high gear score. I'm not defending gear score, I detest it personally, but that's why people use it for PuGs, or armory, or wow-heroes, /inspect, what have you.

If you join a guild that isn't like the top guild on your server or something ridiculous, just like a middle of the road progression guild for ICC 10 or 25, then you'll get a nice little raid spot and you just have to show up once a week or whatnot and do your job, you'll probably get geared fairly quick if you are consistent enough in showing up and if you actually have skill. And then before you know it you can either keep raiding with said guild (which in my opinion would be the obvious answer, especially if it's a group of chill folks who are fun to be around) or you could run out and PuG it up with your new gear score.
