Well you can kind of tell by my post history that my flavor of MMO can change with a stiff breeze.

At the moment I am playing and enjoying Rift. It is not the end all be all, but I am choosing to play it over WoD if that tells you anything. It has nice graphics, the ability to have multiple class builds on one character, an abundance of events/quests/dungeons. The community I have encountered there has been super awesome & nice, and with the free realm transfers I just hopped over to Faeblight last night (the RP-PvE server) and had some very fun RP last night ^.^ (there is a lowbie inn near the starter area for Guardians very similar to Goldshire for Alliance on WoW RP servers).

WoD was fun at first, but then I saw it more as a single player game. You do your little Garrison dailies by yourself & most of the leveling and other activities by yourself. Even when you get to play with people it sucks. I transferred servers like 2 times (waste of money) to see if I could find a decent community. Every time I had a question I was met with such vulgar hostility (why?!) and one of the dungeons I ran; me & a few people made a mistake on a boss and oh boy the stink this one player made. It was ridiculous. So yeah it's polished to a tee and has a lot of features as well, but I'm not going to pay $15 a month for basically a single player game with an occasional multiplayer experience where the other players are mostly jerks and asshats.

I still try and play GW2 here and there, but something about it just isn't pulling me in. I wanted to love this game so much, and for some reason I even liked the original Guild Wars more. GW2 sounded amazing on paper... perhaps I haven't given it a good enough chance. I was a little miffed that I was running around a level 10 I click on a scroll or potion or something then suddenly I'm level 20? I hardly have a clue what I'm doing other than story quests (once again single player game feeling).

I keep hearing ESO is now great, and I wouldn't mind trying it just wish it had a trial or something. I heard SWTOR is good, but I'm not a huge star wars or space/sci-fi fan (unless we're talking System Shock 2) and I've heard your play quite is limited unless you spend money.  I've played a ton of games in the past including Aion/FFXIV/Archeage fun at first but then lost interest. A lot of people on here praise EVE but maybe it was too complicated for me or I just didn't get it.

At this point other than Rift and possibly getting ESO I'm nearly considering just trying MUDs.

I didnt feel it very instanced  I spend 5 hours to do 40 % of quest on a map  I got tired and loged off until I want to play again .

its no wow  open world   al maps are instanced by they are quite big .

Also when you net to gate to next map there is no teleport you see houses trees on th other side you travel throw it and after loading you continue to play .

It cost only 19 $ .. dont be that cheap

I really want to try it, but I am pretty damn cheap as well. I really, really wish this game had a trial at least.

I remember how excited I was when the game was first announced it was like my dream come true. If I still had my gaming PC at the time it was released I most assuredly would have pre-ordered and played it right away, but after all the negative reviews since launch (even though people on this site have been buzzing about it lately which has piqued my interested) it's still hard to justify spending 20 bucks on a game that might be terrible. I already waste enough money on games that people say are amazing that I end up not caring for =P

I really should just buy it since it's on sale, but dang can a girl get a refer a friend or some kind of trial smh.

I can summarize that review for you.

Asian solo grinder with decent combat.

Thats pretty much all that needs to be said about this game.

That's pretty much how I felt about this game... I say that the combat is unique and I can see how people might love it, but I honestly didn't care for it that much. I appreciate what they were trying to do, but to me the controls seemed too loose and unpolished.

There was another MMO I played back in the day that had a similar control system (but it died off pretty quick) I can't recall the name of that MMO, but to me it had a much better version of this type of combat. (Now it's gonna drive me crazy if anyone knows the name of an mmorpg that was about maybe 4-5 years ago with basically the same combat system please tell me lol)

Edit: I found the game! Just had to dig through some of my old posts on here haha

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chronicles_of_Spellborn

^ I don't understand why that game flopped honestly. To me at the time it looked great, had fun combat, seemed very polished. If someone could take that system and expand on it I believe it would be a great game.

Rift or Tera?

Rift! Dimensions would be perfect for your girlfriend for decorating, and I think it's just a damn fine MMO all around. Rift has open world PvP on Seastone and Battle Grounds.

Tera was pretty and the combat was unique but overall the game itself seemed incredibly shallow to me. It did not hold my interest for very long. I wish I could comment on it's PvP but I did not make it that far.

If PvP is most important to you I would say play a MOBA personally the complaint in Rift is no PvP gear and best gear only from raids. I'm not super serious about PvP so the brief bit I've done was fun for me.
To be fair in WoD you get some high quality quests and impressive story telling. Cinematics, transforming into things, flying around pew pewing at stuff, etc. Not always run of the mill kill 10 bring me 5.

It's a highly polished game (that only requires modest computer specs) and it is accessible to many. It should not be difficult to understand why it has a wide appeal. Especially if you have ever played it for at least a week I would say.

And finally what amazing content is FFXIV hiding? It's a good game, but I must have missed something.
I give a solid vote for Rift! I have played FFXIV as well it is also a great game, but I lost interest around level 40 I think. I would whole heartedly recommend playing until at least level 10 that's when I knew I was hooked :) (I had tried it several times before and gave up quickly but I was impatient and wrong) Unfortunately I can't tell you what it's like being played in Italy but it does have oceanic servers if that helps?

Thanks for answers. I am in a need to play and STAY in a mmorpg, woulf love to continue playing Wildstar but pvp server is now totally dead (I hope some updates ahead can fix it), so returned to ESO but doing dungeons and LFG tool are broken so I decided not to stay too till the fix it and make me feel I am levelling with people and not soloing all the time... So I am now searching for a new mmorpg and thought about Rift but I am not sure as I have been reading recent posts of players saying PvP is dead after 3.0 due to normalization of pve and pvp gear (which I don't really care, all I want is people to do battlegrounds, people in the pvp servers to fight randomely in open world pvp, etc).

Well I'm just a lowly level 21, but I decided to participate in a few Warfronts and I actually did pretty good and they were fun =) It only took around a minute to get into them, and out of the two I did I got first blood in one & I only died twice. I usually suck at PvP as well so I'm surprised (I also went as a cleric druid, which I do not believe is the "pvp spec"). I did not know that they granted EXP either, so I am happy that I will have a variety of ways to level up in this game! =)

The PvP server is called Seastone and it must have a decent population because everytime I do a dungeon it seems like most are from that server that are playing with me lol.

I wouldn't worry to much about the souls you pay for there are a ton that come with the game for free. My cleric can be a tank healer and DPS all in one =)

I would try the game out again and see if you want to spend anything. I'm still trying to decide what I should purchase first but I definitely don't feel a "need" to buy anything.

The community is awesome some awesome people in chat randomly sent me some plat so I got my first mount & for the yule event I like immediately got a 32 slot bag!
I want to love GW2, but so far it hasn't really pulled me in. I haven't tried ESO, but I've heard mixed reviews. I just wanted to say I am absolutely loving Rift right now. I want to play it all the time, and even though it's f2p it seems quite polished. I'm not too much for PvP, but so far the PvE seems great. The dungeons are fun, quests have some nice flavor, dimensions are cool, and I love the variety of class customization.
I initially did not like Rift, but I finally forced myself to play to level 10 (along with adjusting the graphic settings as much as possible. I have everything maxed and it still looks a little ugly to me not sure why...) Anyway I am really enjoying it so far, but it is a LOT like WoW which I am comfortable with.

I got burnt out with Archeage pretty quick, and I kind of liked Tera but it seems like it lacked substance. I'm excited at the possibility of doing some fun end game raiding again.

The big thing to remember is that no game is ever going to get a 10/10 in my eyes. 5/10 is only based off of me. I am not a professional gamer I am a working man with a child and wife. So based off the gameplay I was able to experience in a month that is the score I felt it deserved only in my opinion. With all of features available that I was not able to get to and if I had a better community to play with I am sure the score would be much higher in my mind.

So when you read this review keep that in mind please I am not saying this is a terrible game just I had a bad experience the first time up.

So what is the highest score you have given a game, and why? What is your favorite MMO?

Archeage is a great game, but the execution is terrible. It represents itself as a Sandbox, but it anything from the truth. Archeage is a gold grind game, nothing more and nothing less. To do anything in the game you need gold. To make matters worse, the game is over-run with hackers, cheaters, exploiters all contributing to making sure that the amount of gold you need to do these things is extremely high.

Want a farm? Need 500+ gold.

Want a ship? You need a farm for that. 500+ gold.

What to craft? You need a farm for that. 500+ gold

Want to fish? You need a farm for that. 500+gold

You have 2 options. Grind gold to get that farm or join guild and leech off their land. Welcome to "Sandbox".

Honestly I think advertising itself as a sandbox is a bit laughable, but you have a few options out there like Wurm Online and uh Minecraft?

I'm not exactly sure what to classify it as, but hopefully the PvP will be the meat and potatoes of the game, and I honestly don't know but I hope there is some type of dungeon or raiding in the game.

Maybe a dumb question but is there a way to turn off these exclamation marks, I just hate getting reminded of WOW all the time.

If there is one thing I hate then it´s exclamation marks over NPC heads.

Yep you sure can! Turn off NPC names in settings, and it will turn off the exclamation and question marks as well.

I just wanted to take the time to give this game some positive feedback (especially since my server is down for maintenance ='( lol) Just a little background: I'm only a little baby of level 15 at the time of writing, and I have a current subscription for WoW and I also play GW2 (I have barely been able to play either game).

This game is definitely worth the download. Seriously at least try it! I'll be honest; I let out a huge sigh of exasperation and disappointment once I saw the all-too-familiar exclamation point above the NPC's head in front of me once the game initially loaded, but don't be disheartened yet! Before I knew it I was dashing around at high speeds, enjoying the scenery, dancing and chatting with other players, and being entertained by the chat - especially the trial/jury chat!

Then I got my own baby horsey! I was able to raise my baby horse into my big ol' steed buddy, and I was riding around the countryside in style. I love seeing the beautiful in game scenery, and am always tickled pink by the player creations when I see a little player built village.

I am playing a healer - a Hierophant (Vitalism/Auramancy/Witchcraft) to be exact, and so far leveling up has been a bit of a challenge! There are mobs that have been too difficult to face alone, and several times already I have had to find other players to help me. I appreciate having a reason to group up at this low of level, and the chance to co-ordinate efforts as a team and chat and make new friends is always great! =)

Even when I am facing an enemy alone I have had to employ some strategy. I really have to utilize my CC abilities, my heals, and offensive abilities, and I have to switch between offensive and healing items on the fly. This is a refreshing change compared to my recent experiences with WoW/GW2/FFXIV where it seems like I could pick any mob and faceroll 1-2-3 & it's dead. I have no idea what my experience of leveling is like compared to other classes, but I would love to hear some feedback! =D

After I got my horse pal I was soon rewarded with my own little row boat. I was rowing around on the gorgeous water, and I got to see all the different player ships... who kept trying to run me over ='( lol, but it was still a hoot. After a little more questing I got my gilder! Wow I really love that one... running up a mountain, jumping off, and sailing through the air - what a sight & a great way to travel.

There are many other things I have appreciated so far. I like the customization of the UI thus far, I love that even at this low level enemies have little special abilities like a poison DoT spell, or an AoE fire spell on the ground that will do some major damage. Giving me a reason to use my brain while leveling! I like that you are able to interact with the world by climbing. I've been able to climb a tree, a rope, and a ladder so far. I have found little quests laying around, and every once in a while I'll see an interesting easter egg out in the game world.

There are a few negatives I did notice: bots and a lot of gold spam chat while playing, and honestly when I was playing today right before the server went down I didn't see any! We'll see where that goes and if Trion will be able to handle it or not.

I'm still very new and I don't know a lot about the game. I have no idea what trade packs are, thunderstruck bark, or a bunch of other things I've read about. I have NO idea what to expect for PvP, and I am a tad bit worried about how I will do (since I usually suck at PvP in other games) but I hope I can find a good group of people and take on the world. =)

I also just wanted to mention I don't even have a great idea of what Patron status brings (more exp/labor points and the ability to build a house?) but I went ahead and purchased it just a moment ago mainly to show my appreciation for my enjoyment of the game so far, and I believe I will be playing at least 30 more days hehe.

TLDR:

Pros:

- Graphics are pretty

- UI is good

- Combat is fun & challenging

- The game runs smooth and fluidly

- There are many fun & interesting ways to travel

- Albeit some stinkers in the community- I have met a lot of friendly people who have helped me with quests, answered my questions, and I've been able to have some interesting conversations =)

Cons:

- Bots

- Gold Spam in chat

- Some minor bugs and hiccups occur here and there, the game has froze and crashed on me twice.

- Questing. I try to pay attention to the quest dialogue and even the cutscenes, but so far that part of the game has been painfully boring. Thank goodness the cutscenes are fairly quick, and I can pretty much skip through it & the quest dialogue. Could use some better writers, and just re-write the whole thing. However I've heard the quests are just a means to an end.

In closing I am excited to learn more about this game, and I can't wait to see what's in store!

Since announcement of the new expansion it seems like everyone has been up in arms over this one tiny detail: Pandas... as a playable race (Oh no! could it be?)

Now having gone through and read many of the threads created, and comments related to this issue both out of entertainment and sheer amazement that such a fuss is being created over something I personally deem to be so insignificant I have to ask myself if some of the people overreacting are insecure. Whether they are insecure about their masculinity, lifestyle, etc. who knows? But I want some of you to take a serious look at yourself and ask yourself: Am I burning with hatred toward pandaren in the new expansion, because I am insecure about something?

If the answer is YES then my advice is to try and put more value into yourself as a human being, and stop letting other people dictate what you are supposed to enjoy, or how you are supposed to act, etc. Confidence in yourself will not only alleviate problems such as overreacting to something trivial as pandas in a video game, but for an abundance of other problems, and will help you to succeed in life.

Consider this scenario: You and some co-workers are chatting, and you discover that "Dave" enjoys playing Hello Kitty Online. Instantly everyone starts laughing and poking fun at Dave over this fact. What happens if he reacts extremely embarassed, hurt, or angry about everyone making fun of this harmless hobby Dave has? Everyone can tell he is insecure about the issue, and that will only make matters worse for Dave as they will either berate him more about the issue, change the way they treat him so they don't offend his sensibilites, or they will think of him as being weird. Now what happens if Dave completely owns it, and acts nonchalant about playing Hello Kitty Online? They might continue to joke with him about it, but they will respect him for standing up for himself.

And I'm not going to go on a tangent explaining why having a good relationship with co-workers is beneficial, but this is just one of the many examples where having confidence in yourself is one of the most valuable assets in life.

Now if your answer is a definite NO then disregard the former if you wish. Whether you have some odd reason of hating pandas, or you feel like the game has gone too far into the cute zone because of a panda race (although even in Vanilla it was pretty darn cute in my opinion... just look at gnomes for pete's sake) I will invite you to entertain the notion of a few options:

- Cancel your account e.g. vote with your wallet
- Resent the pandas and World of Warcraft silently.
- Contribute to one of the many other anti-Panda/anti-WoW threads already here before creating a new one.

Can someone just give the pandas, the pokemon, or whatever else a break? If you don't like it don't do it.

Thanks for your time!

Think about it before you do it, because you all know that Blizzard will suck every dime they can from you, they have been doing it for the past number of years and they wont stop, as they know you all like things for free.  *cough*

You just described any capitalistic company around the world.

Which basically covers all game publishers.

So which game publisher is offering me a game thats not realeased yet for free If I take out a 12 month sub?

Did you see the pla... nope, missed it.

Whether you agree with my post or not you have contributed so much constructive feedback.  The Blizzard deal will suit a minority of people I have no doubts about that, but a lot of people wont do the sums and will get drawn into the "but I get D3 free and a mount" scenario.  And as I have mentioned earlier, some things are not what they seem,  Have you not seen Walmarts buy 2 get 1 free?  most of them work out more expensive than buying 2 seperately, or buy 2 for $1 but they retail at 50c each? but people still fall for it.

Being closed minded and defending Blizzard for everything they do is nothing short of being stupid.

Well being a frequent shopper of walmart, I can say that most of the time the "buy two get one free" type deals (which are almost always manufacturer related, not issued by walmart), are actually decent deals most of the time. But a funny thing to note when you see signs there like "2 for $5" it doesn't mean you are getting a discount price for purchasing at least two, it just means each item is $2.50. Little technique they have to make more sales and make something seem cheaper than it really is.

Anywho. Some people like WoW, so what if they decide to sign up for an annual thing if they planned on playing for 12 months anyway? If there's some added benefit to doing something they already were going to do why not take advantage of it?

I honestly know I won't take full advantage of my game time, since I work full time and have a lot of other things on my plate, but the $15 a month is plenty worth even the couple hours a week I might play (I'll probably play more, but sometimes I might not feel like it!) and it's so not a big deal. I can piss away far more than $15 bucks in one hour of my free time so it will probably save me money there, plus it's a nice little payment to throw on one of the ol' credit cards that can easily be payed off each month, thus raising my credit rating.

Now some cell phone companies I'd say they're even worse. Right now I have boost and have my little android phone that cost me $180 bucks up front (but I own it) and pay $50 a month for unlimited everything. The most comparable thing from a contract would be sprint for about $80 a month, ($30 more per month give or take). So I figure one of the benefits to a contract plan is that you get a high tech phone for the cost. So the phone I looked at is $200 up front with the two year contract, and it supposedly retails at $600.

$200 + (30*24) = $920. That's over $300 extra! At least the WoW annual thing isn't making you pay extra for something you are already getting, they are actually giving you something for free (if you already play or plan on playing WoW for a year).

Contract plans can be appealing, sensible, logical, etc. for certain people. On the other hand paying more up front for a discounted price can also be better for some. I personally like having the option, and at least Blizzard gives one this option. And if that's all they are charging for a quality game I'll take it, because I know of some terrible, terrible F2P mmos that cost much more to be competitive in.

OP couldn't be more wrong in what he states as the Subject of the thread.

Blizzard has injected humour at just about every turn in the game.  I believe comic relief is one of the core design aspects of the game and it's quests/stories.  Spending 10 minutes doing quests would have told you that.

Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

This 100%. I personally enjoy the comic relief, but everyone is a critic. Why everyone is so up in arms over panda people is beyond me, I thought most people liked pandas? I couldn't care less either way, but I know for a fact that people have been asking for the pandaren for ever, so good for them that they are getting what they want I say. If it bothers you that much just don't play the game. I don't see how it's so out of line what with being able to play gnomes, elves, cows, space-goat-alien-things, etc. Sheesh!

I'm more intrigued by the monk class personally, but a little worried that in the end it will feel like all the other classes after a while. Only time shall tell!

Well lately I've been itching to play some kind of MMO, and having gone through my whole "download X mmo and try it out, get bored 5 mintues later" phase I thought this would be a fine deal. If you are strictly interested in Diablo III, and not WoW at all it's certainly NOT a fine deal. 12 months of subscription time adds up to $180 (and I'm guessing the game retails at $60, so that's 3 times the price).

But the way I look at it personally, it's basically like I'm spending 10 bucks a month on a game that I at least know can satisfy my occasional MMO scratch, and now I have the digital download for Diablo III paid for and lined up waiting to go! Not to mention the bonus of the beta test for the new expac (which might save me money from not purchasing that when it comes out if it's not what I want) and the mount is kind of cool don't really care about that, but whatev.

Now I'm downloading it yet again, and thinking of the possible ways I can entertain myself in the game. I usually try to think outside of the box with it even though it tries hard to be a linear themepark. I enjoy RP servers, because other than the whole roleplaying aspect, there are also quests and adventures we make up on our own, and more focus on exploration and unique challenges. I can also make some PvP twinks on the PvP servers, maybe host a silly lvl 1 hogger raid (or whatever the equivalent today is), find some good in game lore to chew on, etc.

The only MMO I'm definitely looking forward to is GW2, so as long as it really doesn't have a sub... might as well sub to this I thought. Free Diablo III, and beta access to the new expansion. I had a lot of fun in previous WoW beta tests, and I'm an adult that like pokemon (so what?). I'm sick to death of the game, but I'm sure I can find a way to entertain myself here and there.

I couldn't get into it enough to give a decent review. The auto run to quest hubs and npcs was an instant turn off. The animations and moves were incredibly dull and played out, the text was lifeless, etc. I actually like Eden Eternal despite it having auto run, but it's just so darn pretty and at least it has a tiny bit of character, interesting animations, and a couple other things I like.

When it comes to PWE games I would prefer Perfect World Online or Battle of Immortals. BoI is pretty neat, but became boring to me after not too long. PWO is pretty, with flying, cool character interactions, and very relaxing music, but also becomes boring quickly with dull animations auto run to quest hubs, etc.
