Say there was a popular television series on air and there was a game based on that Tv series. Each week as things happened on the show the same events would occur in the game that allowed players to play an active roll in. Of course this would not be the only content a player could participate in but it would be a major game event in which to participate. What if each week the events that took place in the game allowed the player to gain more depth in to the how and why of the event on Tv? It would be almost like a mini drama of its own. Would this type of thing interest die hard MMO players? Would you more or less likely to participate in the events knowing that they were tied to a Tv series? Of course it could be based on a major IP (intellectual property) that most people would be familiar with. Just wondering.
I guess I forgot to mention this would be based on the Star Wars IP. The MMO content would run in conjunction with the live action TV series. |

To be honest, it wouldn't mean much to me. When I was hooked on a particular MMO, I pretty much stopped watching TV. |

Ok, to use your example here. The first problem with this idea is that you'd be giving players the feeling that if they don't watch the TV series then they're missing out on content and perhaps won't know what's coming. And most MMO's already ask you to put down $10-15 a month as it is, so to ask that you watch a television series to help understand the game would be alienating people I think. Secondly, you'd be adding and updating content at a furious pace if you're following a weekly television schedule. Sure you could plan ahead but that leads to the third problem I can think of. Television series aren't continuous (even though they are, I'm not counting WWE/TNA programming as television series) and so you'd get a season of shows - 13 weeks - but then what? One of the main draws to your game is dead in the water for a number of months until another season comes along. This also poses the question, what if the show gets cancelled or doesn't get renewed for another season after the first? You've just lost a highlight of your game forever. It's a unique idea though and the chance of an MMO being developed based heavily on a currently-running television series is there. But a direct tie-in between the two I think would be too difficult to coordinate and I just think players wouldn't want to feel like they're being forced to tune in every Tuesday at 9 before they log-in. ![]() |

To me Laguna Beach and interesting are in two totally different worlds. But there are fans of the show out there who will play this game and to them I say...well, I'm not sure. Rock on? ![]() |

Wow! How annoying is that clip! Like fingernails on a chalk board (then again, everything on MTV is like that, so I'm not surprised). |

Oh jesus christ, Virutal Laguna Beach... As long as MMORPG.com doesn't list it as a game, I've forgotten about it already... |

What greater tribute to free will than the power to question the highest of authority? What greater display of loyalty than blind faith? What greater gift than free will? What greater love than loyalty? |

Eeeh... It'd be really neat for a new IP but kind of creepy for a Star Wars game... I'd really just be happy with a Star Wars Bioware MMO. Reading MTV and a game immediately made me mentally replay every epic cry of "NOOOOOO!" that I have ever heard uttered.

I'm thinking of something completely different from the MTV game. I would have loved to have participated in the Battle of Yavin in SWG even if it was a once a year event (revolving time line), but by the time I got on planet all there was were Blacksun Assassins who drop dairy products and dented metal cases for loot and a few stranded Imperials. There is no secret base on the forest moon of Endor. No action at all. Where is all the conflict that the books and movies talked about? |
