If I were speaking of the dev cycle, I'd say that. The average lifespan of an MMO game is 3 - 5 years. For an industry that's almost 15 years old now, to have successfully managed to avoid extending that number is actually quite sad. From all I can see, it's just the same tired mechanics in a pretty, new candy shell. For those like me who actually want to see progress beyond Red Queen mechanics and the developer/publisher search for the holy grail of a three year subscriber forecast (as opposed to the possible lifetime one, for example), it remains a profound disappointment. |

This is one of the ones to watch, the team has pedigree, the design philosophies and aims are all far better developed than most other MMO's current or close to release, and Sony is only pressing the boxes and providing the servers - both of which they do quite adequately, not controlling the game dynamics, which is reassuring.

Heard that you can't solo or play casually? False Heard that the best items are only available via raids? False.
So I as a soloer, can be self sufficient, harvesting all crafting materials that exist, without relying on any assistance or dependency on others, can craft items equallly as good in every category as items than can be found in raid content? or I as a soloer, can solo mobs that drop items equally as good in every category as those that can be found in raid content?

Run it again, read the information on the header, and understand these arnt artificially polished faked up publicity videos. Do you even understand the term 'beta'? |

I used to defend VG but they passed me over on beta for CGM people=p I'm really getting worried about VG. The NDA breaking is consistent in text. The game is far enough along where the systems in place will not be changed just tweaked. I'm not sure it's enough from what I have heard. I was planing on buying VG on release but I lost a lot of faith in Brad after the way he handled the CGM mess. I'm gonna give this game a few months now before i buy if I ever buy.

I'm surprised and impressed that Brad posted in here. I'm happy to see his involvment in the community.
I've been following this game for awhile now and it's the best thing I can see on the horizon. Will the game be perfect? No Are there things I'd like to see done differently? Yes. Do the graphics look lifeless thus far? Yes, I hope this most of all changes before release. These faults being said there are only a small handfull of games on the market or in development that show the promise that Vanguard does. I'll be getting it when it's released and while I dfeinitely agree there's a chance I'll be disappointed with it, I'm willing to give it a chance to win me over, which is much more than I can say about all those naysayers who trash the game and anything Brad has to say just to boost their little ego's. |

I don't see anything wrong with any upper management (even C level) coming to the community and posting. If you did nothing then you would be hanged by one set of people, if you do by another. While I don't subscribe to the haters (there seem to be some in every game) I also don't listen much to the FANatics. There have been plenty of games that looked AWESOME based on FAQ's, videos, forum posts, your friends roomates girfriends uncle who knows it all, etc... but which did not delivery what they promised. I still remember the rabid forum fans on Shadowbane, DnL, DDO, L2, SoR (to name a few). Even b4 they've seen one ounce of the final product it was uberl33t game. I don't really care what is said or promised by anyone about a game, I care about what is actually delivered. Is the game fun? Is it challenging? Is there a strong sense of community? Can I solo? As a hardcore casual player (10-20 hours/wk) I never expected to be able to get my epics solo, I never expected to see all the encounters just in a single group. But I never did have much time for these massive raids with the mechanics that were in these games. Way too much time and effort for very little gain/fun. As much as I enjoy grouping and some raiding I spend most of my time solo. If a game does not provide "fun" content for me to solo at all stages then its not for me. IMHO the golden grail of games was the original EQ (early years). Despite the huge time commitments, the pointless camping, the harsh death penalty, the silly time sinks, it had a great sense of community. You would have to try really hard NOT to make friends. Since I leveled pretty slowly by the time I got past 50 the game had stopped being fun. I did not have the ridiculous amounts of time required just to get ready and in position to start having "F U N". challenging content is one thing, boring meaningless busy work is another. Despite what anyone over there said the game was totally geared towards the raider and particularly towards the large raiding guilds. So I moved on. And based on the numbers so did alot of other people (I won't get into the hideous treatment we suffered from SoE). Game was crap by the end anyway. While I really want to like Vanguard, having been burned by SOE more then once really makes me hesitant to touch anything that is in any way associated with SOE. Sure Vanguard could actually be a good game and get 500K subs. But there are plenty of games coming out in the next year or so and not all of them are going to be bad. I am having a hard time believing how they will be able to balance the challange from the tedium. Most likely I will not buy Vanguard at release, if there is an open beta I'll give it a whirl though just to see what its like. After release I'll read the reviews and get a consensus of opinions then I'll re-eval. |

That hasn't been established yet. I am still waiting for a Sigil staff member to answer my question regarding self sufficient soloing crafting, and the solo alternatives to raiding which are supposed to realize equal quality rewards.

You aren't going to get anything besides talking points wrapped in a Kosteresque soliloquy. Watch, it's easy - you can do it too. Talk talk talk talk talk talk freedom talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk deeper than WoW talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk SOE doesn't make the decisions talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk customization talk talk talk talk talk seamless. If you master this skill of staying "on message", you can run for office, go into advertsing, or become a game developer. EQ1, EQ2, SWG, GW, CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War, and a slew of free trials and beta tests |

Questions are asked (Whine) Then answered (Adverticement) Then the questioning of the answers (More whine) has to be defended by more adverticement but with other words so that the whiner in question doesnt feel like someone stepped on his toe or whatever.
It's kinds hard accualy, if i make a game. Someone whines about the game and then the imposible mission begins. To answer a whiner , how do you answer a whiner... Without talking good about the game, cause that would be adverticement, without putting down the game. Cause that would sertenly be a disaster. And still answer the question. That is, not telling anything good or bad about the game. Gahh, bluuur freeewkfkakkaa,,,, sigh... Insted of "whine" ask "why" or make a dev suggestion. And the answers are gonna be possitive, what else did you think?!? / Warspine Planetside / Daoc / WoW / Everquest II / Command and Conquer Generals |

Would it be so so wrong to tag the trolls and hunt them down in game because you know full well despite all the B/S and hatred and half truths they spew the fact they post so much is a clear sign they will play the game ,please Sigil my only suggestion of game play is to make thosepeople have chars that glow neon pink but they cant see it themselves only other players , so we can point and laugh knowingly.. Currently Subbed EVE, thats it after years off MMO play I am reduced to one sub due to the massive levels of CRAP in the market. |

Same goes for your logic. You think Brad and Sigil are just lying about the fact that there is solo content. You will find out when you are playing the game at release. See you in game jonaku, hopefully on the PVP server. I will gladly pay to see that PvP event , the posioned troll smack down hmmmm

Brad, I've been following Vanguard for a few years now up until the merger with SOE. Yes, I'm one of the burned "never to buy a Sony product again" customers. Thanks for clearing up a lot of the rumors that have been floating around the internet regarding the involvement of SOE with Sigil and Vanguard, but I must say... I still won't be playing your game. I'm sure you realized before your decision to be involved with them, that you would experience a marked loss in the anticipation of your game. Although I know SOE will only be marketing, hosting and handling in game tech support, that's more than enough for a lot of people to stay away. I know that part of my subscription dollars would go into SOE's pockets, and I'm not about to let that happen again. I'm not sure if the in game support/GM's are going to be SOE or Sigil, but I suggest that you use someone else other than SOE's. Their in game GM's have to be some of the rudest people I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The one experience that sticks out in my head the most was trying to get an appeal thru for the loss of an item. The CSR answered my appeal incorrectly and closed it. When I appealed again and asked that it be kept open until I had a chance to respond, another GM closed the appeal and threatened that if I opened a third appeal with the same subject matter, that it would be considered CSR HARRASSMENT. I will not do business with a company that treats it's customers like that. I'm in business too.. and if I *ever* treated one of my customers like that, I would have hell to pay for.. and I should. Good customer service is ESSENTIAL in success. I'm sure you're well aware of the consequences of partnering with a not so well liked entity in the world of MMORPG's. While I wish you, Sigil and Vanguard success, I still have to express my disappointment in the fact that you decided to partner with SOE to begin with. Many of us were looking forward to Vanguard as an alternative to playing a game that involved them, but that's water under the bridge now.

Its so funny how people keep saying "something you have not used "... just because you fanbois didn't get into beta doesn't mean the rest of us didn't... I actually had high hopes for Vanguard, until I played it... and I'm not talking about bugs and whatever that are expected in beta, I'm talking about the core mechanics Then if you read what I said carefully you will realise my comments have nothing to do with you at all , as I clearly state people who have not used the product , thats point one , point 2 a FANBOI , hmmm how so I also clearly state I have not wished to state a view on said product till I used it , there was no gushing , fawning , pleading for beta key nothing , so what you have yet again proved that trolls react before reading , researching carefully and most of all act before they think...That aside , you have tried it and didnt like it so err dont use it , read my quoted by you post , now it is time for u to try something else , go out , get a hobby or get laid as WHINGING is no replacement for said activities and will never fill your personnel disappointment and failings .. Currently Subbed EVE, thats it after years off MMO play I am reduced to one sub due to the massive levels of CRAP in the market. |

I have a question for Brad if he still reads this post. SOE changed the way their in game tech support works. It's now via a webpage and they got rid of in game help! The last 2 tickets I sent while playing SWG took 3 hours to get a response. They have it set up for all the SOE games, will Vanguard also use the same support?

I like to ask questions, to confirm or releave my thoughts around a game. If you only see one way.. ok Then we are different I just pointed out that there is a way to discuss a game, even if you think it lack something. Without whining |
