We had just played Fury at PAX, so we decided for our AGC meeting, to send a different writer - Laura Genender - to give it a try for herself. Here are her hands-on impressions from just about the only game we actually got to play at AGC.

At the Austin Gaming Conference I got to meet with Auran’s Adam Carpenter, lead designer of the PvP-centric game Fury. Instead of taking notes and asking questions, Carpenter sat me down in front of his Alienware Laptop and let me loose with Fury.

My Fury tour started out with a battle; one of the main strengths of Fury was how quickly I was able to get in the action. After making a quick character selection where I chose to be a healer – I’ll get more into character ‘speccing later – my team, made up of Auran developers and QA people, was transported in to a Vortex type match (there are four match types: Vortex, Elimination, Blood Bath, and Fortress. Read more about them here against a similarly composed team.

You can learn more about Fury here.

*grins*  I'm going to have to mention that I thought Laura would totally rock the demo, and she did.  I bumped into Fury people at one of the parties and was told that they thought it was Adam playing and were thinking... "C'mon, Adam, let the guest play!"  Adam later told them that it was Laura pwning their behinds all along.

Dana and I played it quite a bit at PAX.  I have to admit, that the 4 man team does make things more interesting.  I've always enjoyed a 4 person group in EQ.  It keeps you on your toes.

"There is no PvE in the game; all battles are PvP"

After Laura finished playing I went and met Tony (Auran’s CEO) who was also playing in that session.  What he said was pretty funny.  Apparently a few of the Auran crew playing back in Australia had been complaining on TS, “when is Adam going to stop playing and let the guest play.”  Laura had been playing the entire time and playing WAY above 1st time guest levels.
