Adam Carpenter spoke to us about Fury and we had a chance to play it rather extensively - for a Con - on the show floor. Here is our in-depth report on what we found.

Before our interview, Adam had invited Carolyn and I to sit down and duke it out for their four on four “vortex games”. These games pit the two groups in a competitive game not unlike capture the flag. The goal is to capture four crystals for your side before time expires. The crystals are carried by flying bugs called pekons. These bugs ensure that the crystals enter the game over time and increase the tension and excitement as more crystals enter the world.

Unlike most early PvP games we’ve seen, it seemed melee was a more than viable option in Fury. As a warrior, I had no problem running around and killing enemies. Sure, I got destroyed my share of times as well, but as a die-hard melee gamer, I definitely felt things were fair.

Well i got a chance to play Fury this year at PAX and for being in such a early stage of devlopment and some minor lag flaws the game seemed to be very stable and fun. I ended up playing probably a little over 10matches in this game and won about 6-7 of them and there was not alot of strategie into this game when i played me and some friends did try and make a decent plan which end the end seemed to work alright. For those that havent played it yet its similar to the fast paste action of Unreal Tournament and the PvP style of Guild Wars which in the 4v4 matches(the only one avaible to play) took about 5 minutes or less per match, so it would be very easy to play many matches with out taking up alot of time :D

The thing that really grabed my attention was the 64player maps large scale and they way they talked about it sounded really fun.

Probably going to pick it up when it comes out

I had a chance to play Fury at PAX last weekend, and I have to say the game was a blast to play. Being an avid WoW battlegrounds player, I was amazed at how this seemed to take the feel of that, and remove all the frustration. It's much faster paced, and just seems more fun. There's little to no downtime, and the whole ability points system was great. The build we played was a little shakey, but some of my friends and I talked with one of the devs, and he said that this is the same build they showed at E3, and that they had made tons of changes so far. They've changed the interface a bit, and improved the targeting system. And I definintly agree with the whole team aspect, when it was myself and my 3 friends, we dominated. When it was just me and 3 people I didn't know, we didn't do so well. And if the other team was coordinated at all, we got smoked. I'm really looking foward to this game, we kept coming back to it over and over to get in a few more rounds. I'll definintly be picking this up when it comes out, and will hopefully get into the beta. The beta signup sheet was like 3 pages long though, apparently a lot of people liked it.

I played in the battle grounds of WoW once or twice... It was the best thing I had ever played in an MMO... Fury seems to take that and build on it, creating what truly seems to be the new level of MMO PvP gaming. I really look forward to this game, and hope I am accepted into the beta when they send out the invites ;D
