Fresh off her tale of crafting glory on the Progression Servers, Laura got to ask SOE's Chris Lena a few questions about how they've been going and what SOE plans to do with them.

MMORPG.com: Any plans for more Progression servers in the future? PvP Progression servers? Roleplay servers? Anything else?

Chris Lena: It is too soon to make any solid plans for new progression servers of any kind. Since it is so successful I imagine we will do another at some point but not before the current two run their course. There have been some great debates on our forums for other possible special rules versions and we will definitely take those under consideration if we do another Progression server. I, personally, like the idea of using a predetermined timer to open each expansion – maybe 3-6 months each.

MMORPG.com: How have the Progression servers effected your overall subscription numbers?

Chris Lena: As everyone probably knows they don’t let me talk about subscription numbers but I don’t think I will get in trouble for saying that the servers are leaving a strong positive mark on our overall number of EverQuest subscribers. But even without the Progression server 2006 has been a great year for the game.

I am glad to see the answer about a possible progressive server mix of special rulesets. I also like the answer that someone involved with the game likes the idea of a 3-6 month timer. I hope that with such a server though that there would be no leader board. The leader board seems to me where most of the problems are with both sides. I accept that I am behind and would like more time but if there is a leader board then how can people not expect to have racers trying to finish first. Will be glad to see what happens because I am enjoying the servers so far except is progressing faster than I can.

At first I was really excited about the progression servers.  Then I went on vacation for a few weeks and came back to see (almost) the entire Kunnark portion of the progression completed.

The progression server concept has been made a farce. 2-3 guilds unlock everything while a subset of us poor folks with jobs are stuck watching the server advance far faster than we would like.

The power gamer debate vs the casual gamer debate is old but one point can not be debated.  The actual progression of this server ruleset is set by the Fires of Heaven and Realm of Insanity.

I was interested in relishing in old content but I have no interest in the atmosphere of player vs player (not pvp combat) competition that SOE has established.

I would ask WTF SOE is smoking but I don't care enough anymore.

I r0x j00 r0x we all r0x

You lose at progression then. The name applies it's a race for the biggest loser who still plays EQ award. You should be happy you lost.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

I think they should have had Combine with the current time to open expansions, and Sleeper should have had longer, 3 months for each, maybe need to complete the requirements multiple time or something.
