Sadness is but a wall between two gardens. -Kahlil Gibran

No reason to be snide about it. You and I might not care for the game, but at least they're taking a shot at it. Sure, it rarely amounts to anything, but apathy is guaranteed  to result in nothing. Besides, there have been a few cancelled television programs (okay, very few) that were resurrected due to fan involvement. I don't see it as any more of a waste of time than doing what I'm doing, which is refreshing a bulletin board for online video games and checking for new posts.

I understand your desire to have an old game that you loved brought back to life.

Unfortunately, I do believe that Turbine lost a ton of cash with AC2. It was expected by so many to be basically a new graphical expansion on the great AC1. ...And after AC2 was released, so many were very, very disappointed with the direction that Turbine took. They simplified everything and to many, insulted the "Asheron's Call" name with AC2. I played it myself, and was also very disappointed, even though at the time, the graphics were very, very beautiful. Fact is that it was a very dumbed down version of what was and still is a great mmo, AC1.

I do however understand that many say that near it's end, and with it's last retain expansion that AC2 got a lot better. I wouldn't know. I will trust that from the people who state it as so, though.

None the less, the final deciding factor is that Turbine lost it's ass with Asheron's Call 2, even though it's understandable that there will always be some fans that hate to see any game die. There are a handful of fans upset about Earth and Beyond gone. And there are many other mmos that have fell by the wayside that also had die hard fans that hated to see their game die.

With Asheron's Call, the simple fact is that they are now making profit on it, and have been for a very long time... regardless of it's low subscriber base. There is likely to be a time in the future when it also will be closed down forever simply because it will not be worth the profit margain it makes for Turbine. As devoted to it's fans as I truly believe that Turbine is, it simply does not make sense financially for them to re-fresh an old game that results in a net negative cash flow.

I am truly sorry to see disappointed fans crying for a game that they loved after it has fallen by the wayside. I would encourage all of you AC2 fans to help try and support the reason AC2 was ever born however.. and that would be the original classic, Asheron's Call. It lacks the graphical awe that was found in AC2, but it makes up for it with tons of content, really cool players, and a Turbine team that is still truly devoted to the game, continuing to put out great monthly updates such as the recent "From the Depths of Darkness" released just today for the month of June.

I hope that all of you AC2 fans left cold in the darkness will find a great new mmo home, whether it be in the original Asheron's Call or in another mmorpg that provides you as much playing pleasure as did AC2.

- See you in the game (If you play AC1 that is)
