Roma Victor is due to launch at the end of this month. Today, we have seven new screenshots from this game. While it may never win anyone over purely on graphics, the game has steadily improved and hopes to win people with gameplay. Soon, we will bring you a detailed preview of the game to find out how it stacks up.

Thanks for sending these over.

Well... If I ever feel like returning to my Atari 520, then this is what I will get. But I don't.. so I wont. I have worked with 3D Studio max as pure entertainment. Built some mechs for Bad Karma in its days, did a few commersial banners for FASA interactive to use on gaming sites, but purelly as entertainment, not professional in any way... 10 years ago... I could do better graphics than this. Easy. I have not installed my 3D Studio in five years now, but I am sure I could install it at this moment and without warming up, beat this graphics (Look avatar, last thing I did... about 5 years ago)

And you PAY those guys?!! Amazing. I say fire your modellers, then hire a few 14 year old hobby modellers and they will do better for free.

Making great graphics, and making low poly models that will allow people to play a game with others from around the world in one world without a slideshow is a completely different thing.

And as far as the, "You pay these guys" comment, very few people are payed at RB.  And those that are (maybe 6 people), are payed what you'd expect to make as a student worker.  You have to have a passion to work on something like this for as long as these people have...and do it for free or very little.  (All the directors have never got a paycheck from this game since 2000, including the president KFR)

We may not be pretty, but we've got content.  If people can get past their eyecandy needs, they'll find quite a game here.  And by all means, dont believe this is how it's always going to look.  You think we're going to have our graphics guys (2) do nothing after release?  ;)

I am sorry, but the "low polygon" discussion is not even up for grabs. I know all about low polygons, when I played around with 3D, one of my tasks were to build an Archer (mech) with 500 polygons or less. I did it with 499, it was extremly close to original drawing, then I added 180 polygons to create the 40 missiles in its missile bays to animate a full missile salvo. It STILL looked better than this... I am pretty sure you have passed 500 polygons for a human model, animations today use a whole lot more polygons than ten years ago when I was doodling. That is kinda why I added my timeframe...

I know graphics is not everything, but I sure wish people would stop using polygons as an excuse for bad talent. It works on people that do not know anything, but its a darn insult to peoples intelligence.

It is nice to hear that you work for free, it explains a whole lot more about why it looks like it does. But do you not even feel yourself, that maybe it might be an idea to tell those modellers to step up a notch? It is 2006 now. Little big adventure (1997) had better graphics than this, and it ran on computers that would fit in todays wristwatches. Be honest to yourself and your future clients... You CAN do better, if you just focus on all parts of a game, even the visuals. The question that really hang out there is: Do you even WANT to do better? Does not seem like it.

Anyway, enough from me. I am sure you will find your costumers on your chant: "It might look bad, but... We got gameplay... promise". And for some, that might be enough... I just get a bit sad when people are satisfied releasing inferior products, just because they can't be bothered to think about quality.

Gamers who use RMT are like athletes who use steroids.

Horrible graphics, and graphics do matter.

But more concerning is the revenue system which promotes elitism by selling in-game coin directly. So whoever pays more will have more and be more powerful.

With PvE raiding it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fauning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privelege. - Neanderthal

Harafnir, that was an excellent post. You've delivered the goods, sir.

If you're under 21, then I cannot take your posts seriously. Seriously.

Where's your God Now, griefer?!

If you dislike this game so much why waste your time complaining about it? im sure you've got better things to do, like, play WoW or SWG. the "better" games. WW2 Online has poor graphics but that hasnt stopped thousands playing it for many years now, and the gameplay is not to be found anywhere else, its got realistic damage models and everything and requires more brains than brawns to capture towns. I think this will be the case with RV, its giving us a type of game we havent seen before. I dont expect money will fulfil every needs for a player, money cant make a hut magicaly appear can it? not every resource can be bought off vendors, you still need crafters, money makes life alittle easier on the player in certain areas of play(hire NPC guards etc) thats all.
