Lead Designer Stephane Quilichini and Marketing Manager Géraldine Lescs answer our questions as Dark & Light moves within a week of launch. Included is exclusive details on the game's final pricing plan and five exclusive screenshots.

To play, players have two options. They can pay $59.99 (US dollars or Euros, depending on where they live) for a game key and their first month’s subscriptions, or pay the same price for the key and something called a Freedom Pass.

Normal subscribers pay $14.99 a month for full access. Freedom Pass subscribers pay the same price for 15 credits. These credits are used to unlock things like new areas, high level equipment and other content. Freedom Pass members cannot be guild leaders, fort leaders, have limited access to titles and must use one credit to unlock each item above the companion level.

“It will be less expensive for casual gamers,” explained Quilichini.

$14.99? $60?

basically what they're saying with those prices is that the game is the same quality as world of warcraft which is a pretty big joke.

“Even if its not all finished like we’d like, but we have too much delays so now we have to get it out, its time,” says Quilichini
Ummmmm, ya.  That just about says it all.  Maybe I'll buy it months from now, if they finally complete the game with all of the features they promised over 3 years ago.  I'd like a box, too, so that is another bonus of waiting, aside from all of the other nonsense that players will have to put up with after the release of this mmo.

Unfortunately, they really bit off more than they could chew with this game. I predict launch will be a complete disaster and the game will close down before it passes the 1 year mark, it's too bad too as it had some really good potential.

If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem.

That is actually my favorite quote in the whole interview

Does anyone get the impression that the interviewer was, well, slightly underwhelmed by this game?

There's nothing really bad in the article about the game...it just sounds so, erm....mediocre. I'm thinking of lines like these ones:

“To be honest, only 70% of all the features on our website will be in the release," admitted Quilichini before adding that the rest would come through patches.

"The game’s combat system is the “classical one for MMORPGs” with spells, special moves, etc. He added though that the entire experience looks better thanks to motion captured animations, but admitted there were “no specific innovations” on that front."

Ultimately, Dark and Light provides players with a PvP experience, a craft based economy and the ability to conquer new lands.

“Even if its not all finished like we’d like, but we have too much delays so now we have to get it out, its time,” says Quilichini.

Essentially, doesn't it just sound like every other generic fantasy MMORPG out there?

Fire is never a gentle master

If NPCube/Farlan think, they can sell DnL for $40/€40 and demand $14.99/month from players, then they really do not understand how the MMO industry works. Demanding such a HIGH price for their already unpopular game is the last straw that signs the death knell for DnL before it is even released. I'd not waste money/time to buy this game, knowing that it will not last longer than a year at most.

Demanding THAT MUCH money from their very patient and loyal playerbase, is a slap in the face of everyone that still stuck with DnL, even after the disastrous release of SoG and the countless broken promises and release dates.

On the DnL site they sell it for $ 39.99 so are you sure you got the price right?

DnL is like every other generic fantasy game out there. But compared to most other MMOS currently on the market, it falls short on practically all aspects of a MMO and compared to all MMOs currently in the making, it is not worth a second look.
