and how do you waste words on unrealswat? if i rember correctly he actually did have a game up and running by himself. Yes that is true I did make a game myself. I guess he is wasting words on me because I am not as "advanced" as he is because he managed to fire a whole team!!! I would never be able to do that... Anyway if you guys want an update on the game, (since i am now merging it with dividedplanet) one of my highly skilled team members is finishing his hand drawn world map today then we will be all incredibly hard at work, like a team should be. But for your information (not)-funeedude a team doesnt have to spend every awake moment developing an mmorpg. every 3 days is good. my team member green.7 only comes on at weekends but his skills are so incredible i am gifted just having him on the team! I personally would have banned his own IP then used the smtp auto message to every email address in the mysql telling them evil things THEN disable the board. but everyone raise your drinks to the people that stopped one person from scamming a hell of a lot of people UnrealSWAT |

College student here, taking programming and what not.
Now, im taking a course named System Analysis And Design II and one of the "languages" we are learning is UML. Very helpful, very powerful tool to design systems. It is complicated (doesn't help that my teacher speaks in a russian accent) but I can see its uses. So anyone out there use UML in there day to day jobs? Or know of it eh? There's a second edition of this here. The first edition is 2002, this one is 2004. Still, it's out-dated in mmo years. |

One book I didn't see mentioned here is "The Game Makers Apprentice". (Link: http://www.amazon.com/Game-Makers-Apprentice-Development-Beginners/dp/1590596153/sr=8-1/qid=1164740380/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-5125318-4215033?ie=UTF8&s=books) While it's not learning C++ it does have a very C++'ish like scripting language and eases you into very simple game design. Included with the book is the Program "Game Maker". You can also download Game Maker for free here: http://www.gamemaker.nl/ There are some free tutorials and a very good online community. Now, once again, this isn't for some one who wants to learn a programming language, nor is it for anyone who wants to make an MMO right now. This book and program is for absolute beginners who want to get into small scale Windows games easily and with little head aches. Here's an example of a game you can make.( Not mine, but submitted by one of the community members, as their first orginal game ) http://www.tiscalinet.ch/snake67/StarWars.zip The reason I suggest this book, is like you Anageth, I see loads of posts of people who think they can program or want to make an game/MMO with little to no understanding of how much work developing a game can be. This is just a good way for folks who post things like that can get started. |
