"Blah Blah Blah yakkedy smakkedy"

5/14/06 9:27:33 AM#1

I was looking through the SWG site and stumbled across the devs digest posts where Smed is commenting and answering questions from current players. Raised a few questions in my mind for you guys.

1. How often is Smed replying to your posts?,daily, weekly, monthly?

2.Has anyone tried asking Smed why they havent scrapped SWG and went for making SWG 2 as a pose to trying to fix the already ruined game it is?

3.What is your opinion on the current state of the game and pub 28?

4. Are you happy now that the dev team is actually communicating with you on things broken and so on?

5.Do you have plans on quitting anytime soon or do you plan on re-subbing every month until you feel the game is up to your standards?

Just asking these questions since I do not have a sub to that game anymore and was curious.

Hasn't since that Friday

2.Has anyone tried asking Smed why they havent scrapped SWG and went for making SWG 2 as a pose to trying to fix the already ruined game it is?

Dunno

3.What is your opinion on the current state of the game and pub 28?

Fine enough for me, I'm still enjoying myself.  Pub 28 has been great.  New stuff for my recent BH alt to do, sparked off PvP, excitement of being hunted by a BH and business for my AS has been even better since lifting armour restrictions (and people are getting creative with their armour combos)

4. Are you happy now that the dev team is actually communicating with you on things broken and so on?

I hate it, it sucks...what do you think?

5.Do you have plans on quitting anytime soon or do you plan on re-subbing every month until you feel the game is up to your standards?

I'll be re-subbing for as long as I'm having fin

Not sure how having a sub would answer these questions for you :p

1. He never replies to anything we ask.... ever.... Usually he only makes some big post when a bunch of people end subscriptions and it is always something to just string us along or a question to make us feel as if we are part of some non-existing process to make things better.

2. I have Smedley's personal office phone number and the closest I got to speaking to him was a 45 minute talk with Satao, the director of customer relations. Smedley is one of those guys who makes descisions but never has to answer for them or be honest about anything.

3. It is sad. I would pay $15 a month and with multiple accounts to play the old Pre-CU SWG but the game now is just sad. I wish they had not destroyed the game I bought and fell in love with (pre patch 9 SWG).

4. No. Sadly the dev team isn't in control of anything. They are under a strict contract that keeps them towing the company line and pushing the marketing spiel on the games direction. No one in SOE or LAE gives a shit what we want or how we see things. If they did, they would give us classic servers.... if they cared about their customers they would never have completely revamped the game to begin with. I think they see us as sheep and themselves as sheep herders.

5. I quit right after the NGE. I have tried it again a few times with my old accounts and a new account. I won't send any more of my money to SOE unless I can  once again play Pre-CU SWG.

1st of all, I suggest not to take the advise of old jilted player, I mean they are jilted, they will say bad things no matter what.

This game is good or better then any other MMO out there. Why would I lie about that?

1. How often is Smed replying to your posts?,daily, weekly, monthly?

At least one of the Dev's I see reply to a post about Weekly since I have been playing for a little over a month now.

2.Has anyone tried asking Smed why they havent scrapped SWG and went for making SWG 2 as a pose to trying to fix the already ruined game it is?

Because they did not want the game to go the way of being a moisture farmer.

They wanted it to be exciting like the movies. So they never wanted the old SWG anyways

3.What is your opinion on the current state of the game and pub 28?

I like the fact the Bounty Hunters actualy can hunt players that choose to PvP and loose.

4. Are you happy now that the dev team is actually communicating with you on things broken and so on?

It is good and I'm sorry they did not in the past but they are now.

5.Do you have plans on quitting anytime soon or do you plan on re-subbing every month until you feel the game is up to your standards?

I do not plan to leave this one ever, it has gotten better with each publish and hot fix lately.

Just asking these questions since I do not have a sub to that game anymore and was curious.

My posts? I've never asked anything, so he's never had anything to answer.

2.Has anyone tried asking Smed why they havent scrapped SWG and went for making SWG 2 as a pose to trying to fix the already ruined game it is?

Several people have. I believe he said that the SWG engine is extremely powerful and robust and it would take far less time and money to implement their vision in a current, existing engine rather than starting over. He didn't say as much, but if they used the same assets for a sequel while having the previous SWG which looked exactly the same with many of the same features, it would be confusing to consumers. So, they'd HAVE TO start over, and that wasn't in the cards.

3.What is your opinion on the current state of the game and pub 28?

Believe it or not, they've been fixing lots of bugs. Pub28 wasn't really for me. I picked a Commando because I wanted to wear Assault armor, and as an Ithorian, there's only three types of armor anyway. The new Corellia quests were pretty good (I liked the hikers one). I'm not a Bounty Hunter and don't participate in PvP, so the player bounties don't affect me, though the ability to change PvP status away from a faction recruit was a positive change. The increased armor drops are pretty bad, but they are all sellable at the junk vendor, so they are just vendor trash to me. Ultimately, I thought Pub28 had some major positive changes, but it wasn't really aimed at me. The only negative I've seen so far is the sheer volume of milk that drops off humanoids, and that's nothing really.

4. Are you happy now that the dev team is actually communicating with you on things broken and so on?

I've always felt that the team tried their best to communicate upcoming changes and the philosophies behind those changes, but they were often hindered by the the fact that they couldn't talk about things that weren't feature complete. If they talked about their intentions too openly, then people would blame them when they didn't follow through on their flights of fancy. I think they've hit a nice place between openness and guarded expression that allows us some insight into the game and where it is going (especially Rogue_5's weekly updates), while not saying anything too wishful that could be taken out of context and used against them later.

5.Do you have plans on quitting anytime soon or do you plan on re-subbing every month until you feel the game is up to your standards?

The game is not really up to my standards, but it never has been and I'm not exactly holding my breath. What it is right now is fun for me, and I eagerly await future publishes to see how the game grows. But I have a Station Pass and bounce between EQ2 and SWG regularly, and dabble in EQ and Matrix when I'm bored, so even if SWG got to the point where it was offensively bad to me, I'd still be subscribed just because I like being able to play more than one MMORPG a month. Frankly, though, SWG is okay at the moment. It is fun and they've cut down on the number of frustrating bugs that affect me personally. If all they do is build on the NGE, it probably won't ever offend me.

Just asking these questions since I do not have a sub to that game anymore and was curious.

This might no longer be accurate, however Nancy MacIntyre, senior director of "Star Wars Galaxies" was quoted on December 14, 2005.

MacIntyre believes that, over the long haul, the monthly subscription model will disappear from the MMOG market and will evolve to the selling of virtual items, an in-game economy, and the selling of premium services. But, she says, not immediately.

"Not all games are set up around the buying and selling of items, which would make it very difficult to take a game like 'Star Wars Galaxies' and make that transition," she says. But, she adds, when "Star Wars Galaxies 2" is developed -- perhaps in 2008 or 2009 -- things will be different. "If we were starting to build 'Star Wars Galaxies' today, we would absolutely consider building it from the ground up with premium services."

I think that they are planning to make SWG2, but they also won't scrap SWG while it is still profitable.

Bug, the last I heard, Nancy did not move to a different company.  Instead, she was promoted to Vice President of Global Marketing and Sales.

Duncan, I just point to what LucasArts/Sony Online Entertainment say in regards to their products.  True, I sure would not have hired/promoted Mrs. MacIntyre, but obviously LucasArts has no problem with her.

At the time of the statement, she was in a posistion to know if SOE was developing a SWG2.  I believe that a plan was in the works.  Whether or not there is still a plan to make SWG2, I cannot say.  Nor do I expect to see SOE announce anything further until they are quite ready to.

You need to take Nancy MacIntyre's comment's with a grain of salt.  She is also the person who said that there was too much reading in SWG.

I understand, my comment was geared more towards this person's character than the information.

SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!

I was looking through the SWG site and stumbled across the devs digest posts where Smed is commenting and answering questions from current players. Raised a few questions in my mind for you guys.

And who exactly are u or they to decide on how I should play the game??  If I want to be a moisture farmer that is my own business!

Sorry this is the Star Wars Galaxies forum, not Saga of Ryzom.

As for your questions there's only one thing you need to know, "$OE treats its customers like mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed on ****!"
