Actually it is the devils at SOE up to their same old tactics. Destroying a prefectly good game which was different to the MMO market. I picked up Galaxies when it first arrived and also the Jump to Lightspeed expansion. Only to see the game, not just once, but twice get overhauled and pretty much wipe out a years worth of gaming. I just love when my hard earned time and dollars are spent on a game that today pretty much doesnt look anything like the game I originally bought. And that isnt a positive, because I dont think that most of the changes are positive. And SOE wonders why I left this game and both EQ's because of poor decisions made to the gameplay. So far I am much happier to be away from SOE MMO's and playing other companies games, which as of right now havent disappointed me with very bad decisions concerning the gameplay. |

Disclaimer: I was an August '03 player and I quit with the NGE. I have been watching SOE and their decisions with SWG. There has been a lot of hindsight discussed on this and other forums. How SOE should have done this or that instead of the CU or the NGE. I think we can all agree that SOE has horribly mismanaged this game. That said, I think the biggest failure, and this is what will kill the game and other SOE games, is their failure to listen to their paying customers. Their hubris in pushing out the NGE and the firestorm that followed is a direct result of them not listening to paying customers. SOE seems to have never thought that the paying customer base would be so angry and upset that they would trash them everywhere and anywhere they could. This was not a coordinated effort by a few disgruntled players, this was a mass rebellion of a the "vocal minority" that they were not prepared to defend. This is a new age of gaming where forums, chat rooms and other mediums can carry a game or destroy it. In the case of SWG, I had hopes that E3 might bring me something I'd like, but it seems to be more of the same old, same old. I check in with my guildmates every few weeks and there is not much to report. They still play and have switched servers, because the server we were on is dead. They are having fun meeting new people and having a new bounty system (ours was a BH only guild). But they acknowledge that the game is dying. I guess the only thing I really want to tell SOE, as they monitor this stuff, is that they should not have tried to make such sweepeing changes in the game. Back in late '03, they should have made small changes to each profession and slowly worked on them to improve them. Instead, they got analysis paralysis and scrapped the whole thing for the CU. POssibly the second worst mistake in MMO history. The worst mistake goes to the NGE. See you on the PS3! |

They do not release an expansion this year?
The paying players (subscription base) is to low. If every player stil playing this game would by the expansion, it wouldn't pay off. To few people left playing. I stil don't get their logic. They want to aim at thousands of Starwars Fans. They once had some hundred thousands they lost because of their changes. Does SOE really believe SWG could compete with the huge wave of new MMORPGs released by the end of the year? With that Benny Hill show combat and movement? LOL. They once had great moves within the game,. Especially the melee styles (Pike / Sword / Lightsaber). It's dead Jim. |

One has to wonder though..Did SONY purchase or sell rights to LEC which would in the end of all this transformation produce the income to double the loss? I'm talking about the recent PS3 Online ordeal. Back in 2003 they may have had great motives to transform this game for console to compete with XBOX Live and the ever growing Microsoft.

Someday a journalist with enough flair and personality will be able to pull off such an interview. Until then we are stuck with what we have. But I think the paranoia and the lack of trust that SOE and some others have caused is starting to build a wall between the players and the game companies. Reporters really need to step their game up a bit.

Just more BS from SWG devs. "short term pain" means more crappy updates. Too many chefs in the kitchen i think.

I have a question will they be ending all the expansions and keep the content from them in the original or will they keep the expansions they already made without makeing new ones and add content?

You would think that losing most of their customers would cause them to think "oh hey we really screwed something up...." but what do you expect from a company that has no clue about what their customers want.

They tried to tell us what we wanted and when we disagreed, they publicly disparaged they're customers. That's a hell of a way to run a company. The fact that clowns like Julio and Smedly are still employed there just shows the corporate atmosphere of not caring about their customers. Just look at the crap spewing out from them about their game system. Just incredible. |
