There was one thing I disagreed with. The game voip costing money. Although it is a great function, and I am sure people will use it, I wish that the concentrated more on gameplay things, because the voip thing can be done cheap and easily with a third party client.

Agreed, and lets think about it. Why not just work a deal with TeamSpeak or Ventrillo to integrate it into the game engine, oh, and guess what, let SOME ONE ELSE deal with the server over-head. Sure, the over-head of a voip relay is minimal, but leave the server portion, moderation, and all that petty stuff to the users. I have OFTEN thought that a game-integrated voip solution would be a big step, but I always envisioned it just being an add-on that users would have more say over. I really think CCP has taken a wrong step with this new feature, why reinvent the wheel? *slaps on wrist* |

While it takes time to learn it's casual friendly because skills train while offline. It also has the best community of any MMO I've played.

A lie can get half way round the world while the truth is still putting on the shoes. |

So I am a little confused. When I first read the article awhile back I had the impression they would be making a new server which was really exciting for me as the biggest thing keeping me from the game is the fact that you can never catch up to someone who has been playing for a long time, but after reading it again it seem like they are just adding more servers to support the increasing number of players on their one shard or server cluster whatever you want to call it. I enjoyed the game on the trial but like I said what kept me from subscribing was the fact that I could never catch up to long time subscribers. If they opened a new server (shard whatever) I would subscribe the second it opened.

Many people are falsely discouraged by the fact it takes very long time to catch up with skills. I was with corp in 0.0 pvp after 30 days...I started as miner and joined a corp and did alot of group mining and hauling (buying low, selling high elsewhere) playing around 3 hours a day with maybe bit more in weekends and got rich fast...then i was good enough to play viable support role in corporation pvp and got access to 0.0 space where the real money was...now I fly same type of ships the ones fly that had played from day one and are no longer "cannon fodder" and can pretty much hold my own. This game is very group oriented and alot of things are much easier with good group...what makes this greater than others IS the community...people are VERY friendly and you'll find good team fast. for soloing this game is bad...only way for solo PvP is to duel in secure space...and solo mining is very boring...group mining is where its at. |

Honestly you would fall behind just as quickly, because total SP means sweet F**k All when it comes right down to it. You would be saving up to buy your first cruiser while organized groups of players are already producing battleships and establishing thier bases in 0.0. The only thing holding you back from succeding on the main server is your attitude. It has been demonstrated a million times that you don't NEED to catch up to vets to succeed in the game. Hell 75% of the population has less than 15 million SP, that's just over a year of training and once you have gotten to that point you will have maxed out one skill tree and will be free to start working on another one to diversify your skills.. |

i also am confused. could someone that believes the above explain it to me please? how EXACTLY is it that you feel that if you made a toon, that you could never catch up (i.e. be competitive) against toons that are two years old? i mean, throw me some numbers/figures/skills/whatever that shows you've thought it out and not just shrugged your shoulders because you imagined something. could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please? |

To the folks who are wandering about why you can't get out of pods or ships and wander around, I'm a little put off by that as well, but if you check out the blogs, it looks to me as if they're actually planning on doing something like that really. It's going to be in a long while really, but they've said that they'll allow you to go on the planet with your ship, I think they're being a bit tight lipped about it though because it's only concept, but it still makes me wander about the reason they're upgrading the game engine's graphics in the first place ;) these guys really seem to know what they're doing, and they're getting a loyal player base (including myself) Just give it time and i'm sure things will work out, they're listening to player's and talking with them too.
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place. |
