I'm 13 and I want to create a mmorpg. I have a storyline, ideas for quests, some sketches, and a notebook of stuff. I'm a B student, but I have a lot of experience with computers and want to be a desginer when I'm older. I just don't know the softwere or how to make it. If anyone could help I would apreceate it.

why do humans build, because it isn''t there |
... try visual basic for now to start on programing. or java or c++ if you want a mental overload right away. its best to learn the first few chapters of a programing language from a real person. and then if your driven/care enough you could teach yourself off books, online turorials, forums. granted you could start from there but its more difficult. you really don't need to start with VB but it is a lot easier than other languages. though less powerful usually/always |

I don't know, but i would say with your age it qould be quite hard to make an MMORPG by yourself for one simple reason: young people like imediate results and programming is something that takes time, and you don't get results easily. I'm 16 myself, almost 17, and I can say I have some problems with learning how to program. I suppose thats because I only learn it from books, and its a kind of slow process.
But anyway, if you do have the patience to learn how to program you still need to learn how to use photoshop(or anything similar for 2D graphics) or a 3D modelling program(for 3D graphics). Good luck.. |

If u want 2 start out w/ something easy use the eclipse mmorpg maker, u cant get in2 the code, but u can change sprites/set skills/make maps/start scripting/etc. It only makes 2d games, tho. its at touchofdeathproductions.com, or u can download it from download.com, typ eclipse 5.10, i think thats the newest version, but im not sure. Good luck.

I think one of the major questions you want to ask here is what type of developer you want to become! programming can create models, and animate, everythings possible through coding but takes much longer. Dependant on what positions you want to take part in in the game industry or in a game project should be your first start off goal. Although I thin at the age of 13 ? you should stick to just getting through grade school or highschool, untill you have free time learning what you want to in college and having spare time for homework, and game desgn. No one will crush you dream
If you want to start off, do what everyone else said and learn a language first, because modleing and animation can come easy in gaming, coding is a powerfull, if not the most and requires essential for making games!!!! so I would go with learning c++ and refer to this website or dev master for help. But do not let your desire get in your way of real life issues, at 13 school, life, and living a kids life is important to develope skills that willbe required in the game industry
Also, try some easy to use tools, I suggest RC, take a look at multiverse, or FPScreator. They can give some boost in self confisence as a game designer and begining stage of being a developer. |
