I must agree on the mix of individuals I saw there. There were no common stereotypes that stuck out. Looked like a day at any normal event. Just regular folks young and old, male and female.

While I agree that we often have pre-conceived ideas on what type of people play MMORPGs (aka "The Young Male") and that the actual player-base is much more diversified, I don't think you can say the people at Fan Faire are a good representation of who plays the game. At least not proportionnaly.
There are reasons some people goes to fan faires, being financial ressources, availlable time and geographic localization. You also need into account the motivation to do so -- its a social event after all and you can't say all MMO players are that social. All these factors play on your demographics; who's going to Fan Faire and who's not VS what's the actual player base for the game.
